For Internet explorer: find a proxy server, go to "tools" (in your browser menu), select "internet options", "connections", click "LAN settings", check "use a proxy server for your LAN" and type in the address of a proxy server.
It will install a bunch of SW into a directory from which you will see the "Start Tor Browser.exe" program which will setup your connection to the Tor network. The Tor network will link your PC/IP# into a network and exit your traffic out somewhere else in the Tor network.
2a. Then use a proxy eg: http://www.hidemyass.com to keep any of your PC information from leaking out onto the internet. Also works the other way and keeps any local cookies and tracable cache content from entering your PC. Their proxy seems to work well with icmag and other more complex sites.
Does anyone know of a proxy that allows https to it and then allows https to icmag from it? That would certialy close the loop on any chance of eavesdropping on the Tor ends.
tor proxy is slow but its the most secure around
always the traffic passes tru 3 different ip's and the change internally every 2-5 mins
so if the feds or others wants to track you its very, very hard for them as the traffic between the 3 clients is also internally encrypted
if anyone wants to track all the have is maybe or exit node ip which change also each 2-5 min
theres no record anywhere of the other 2 ip's your traffic passes tru and they also change every 2-5 min on random
also the browser package is made so theres no cookies or other traces from browsing
if someone grabs your pc and start looking and your using TOR they cant see shit
maybe your bookmarks but thats it
if your using a website based proxy they are often low security and might leave traces of your original ip depending on who runs the proxy and how its done
webbased proxies also often have records of who borrowed what ip at what time so if the proxy owner is raided your ip, meaning your adress is often up for grabs for those who raid the proxy owner
i sometimes use web proxies to upload pictures to imageshack.us but i never login to sites like this without using TOR
its slow some times yes, but it gives me the needed security as our government here is logging all users traffic
as what im doing is far from legal here tor is the way to go to keep my freedom in the case they might have started investigating me or just peeks in the records of my traffic
I used to frequent a forums not mentioning names but i used a proxy and its slow as shit no matter which one i tried. A proxy is not 100% safe but it is slightly better than nothing. Best security is be careful what u say in my opinion. Not real fond of how far law enforcement will go to make themselves look good with a small time weed grower. Its just crazy.
i am trying to use the firefox torbutton and it will not allow me to access this site. it says proxy server refused connection. i am very new to this proxy stuff so any help would be awesome. thanks
If I'm on a wireless connection, i'll avoid canna sites. In a pinch hypothetical that I were required to log on to IC in a wireless connection, I'd start to bulk up my security with a multitude of measures.
Beyond that, in my standard connection, I don't even bother with Tor and the like anymore. They provide another layer, but honestly if they want you, they'll get you. The govt employs some really savvy IT people-couple that with a warrant, and you're done if they want you via the net.
Tor slows down my connection significantly as do most free proxy's, and it's just an annoyance that, to me, isn't worth the very minor layer of security.
