Proposed DIY Bubble Bags

I just completed a run through a 3 bubblebag system I created myself with the screens I purchased from the link mentioned in the 2nd or 3rd post of this thread. (Fantastic pricing BTW). I am more then amazed with the result. The fact that I just saved $100 also brings a smile to my face.

I went to my local goodwill store (it's like a salvation army, 2nd hand stuff) and bought some old clothes (material, windbreaker jacket type stuff) and proceeded to make my own. The project cost me a whopping $39 and an hour of my time.

I sew my own seams with a sewing machine (I tripled up) and used some kevlar thread for durability. I already had the kevlar but it was cheap, You can get a roll for around $2.
After one run, I see absolutely no signs of weakening, or fraying and I definately think the durability is possibly better then any you can buy. If your going to make your own, I highly suggest using kevlar thread. At $2 a roll, how can you not.

Something pique's my curiousity though. I try to search for "make bubblebag" in the search box and I get a 404 not found error. I search for anything else, and it seems to work fine. Is anyone else experiencing this glitch as well?

Ringostar....what size screens did you use from that link? I've wanted BubbleBags but the price is out of my range (for now). I've got a bunch of dried leafs and trim that is just taking up space.

Try useing ripstop nylon for the sides(available any fabric supplier)-waterproof and TOUGH
Do double stitch ALL seams and we used surging to reinforce the mesh to bag seam--best to add a drawstring at the top(easier to mount to the bucket and helps in draining bags)
Didn't save much by DIY-but had enough mesh left for good set of dry sift screens- -just mesh and oak strips-easier than the bags to build

i am wondering about that bag set myself...the micron sizes are a lil different, but i dont think it hould matter that much...the only thing i didnt liek is that it doesn't have a 25 micron bag which catches sativa trics...but the 35 im sure does a nice job. I have been wanting to buy bubblebags for a while, i still got a month till harvest so i got time, but they are so much money....im thinking about making my own...you can find the micron sizes on filterbag as well...

only problem i see with the filter bags is the seem (sp) it looks to run the length of the bag, it might cause problems when you try to scoop the resin out. im gonna give it a try, i'll let yall know how it turns out.

I made my own bags 5 years ago and have never looked back. its kind of expensive but they work very fast , no waiting for the bags to drain as in the 'mesh at the bottom' style of bags. I simply bought 2 meters of nylon mesh at the right size and drape it over a 45 gal bucket ,use a bunge cord to secure it on , and voila . I used to use the bubblebeags and others too but it always took hours to drain . this method uses all mesh no solid bag area so the material drains almost instantly , no waiting

Those filter bags will work as they are what we use , i got them of a old m8 from og .a You are right you have to becarful about the seem . On the ones we have it only goes up one side , but we still have to becarful not to let no hash get traped there but they do do a good job .I will try and post some pics up of the fliter bags we use .

which size r u using? the drawstring set has the best range of sizes, but it doesn't fit a 5-gallon bucket. is fitting a 5-gallon pail important?

since it doesnt have 25 micron bag i think i'll just buy a 1-gallon 25 micron replacement bubblebag to catch the sativa trichs.

Queston: diy bubble bags are penny wise pound foolish if you have more than how many average-sized plants?

Though I have no experience with bbag's this post really grabbed my interest.

Q: Why do you even need a bag?

If I'm reading this right you can take a 5gal bucket, push the screen down in the bucket, dump in your shake, cold water, ice and blend it.

Lift up the screen and all the solids are pulled leaving resin water. Screen should be fine since it's only lifting up the leaf solids (right?)

Next, use another 5gal bucket and stretch the next screen over top of it. Dump into this bucket through the screen...and continue alternating buckets.

I would think with the final screen, maybe 20-25micron, wouldnt the remaining trichs actually stick on the screen and not stay in the water?

Hence my question - why do you need an actual water proof bag?

i think it can take a while for the mixture to drain through. you can fill up a bag to produce more pressure to force the mixture through more quickly. plus yer less likely to spill. could be wrong. hapind b4

Great idea, and great thread.

But for me, like some others, it's too much trouble. I'd rather just easily trade an oz of my weed for a brand new Bubblebag set. (Or do a little better on the black market, I guess?)

I'd love to see some cool designs. If there's a real easy one to make that's super cheap and not anywhere close to the buying costs, I'd make some!

clown - my plan is the bags here: http://www.filterbag.com/kit.html and a 1-gallon 25u bubble bag for the fine stuff. No work at all. around $100 + shipping

my question is how much better would a real set of 8 x 5gal bubble bags be per plant? i only grow about 12 plants per year. if I'm going to get $20 worth of hash out of each plant then I'll prolly just go for the real bags.

Hey guys, not sure if this will work, but its a damn cheap alternative

http://www.filterbag.com/kit.html

9 bag set Includes 35, 55, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 400, and 800 microns.

62 bucks + shipping.

It works great. I got the ones with the tie strings....and they come with a 75. I only use the 75 and 35 for bubble. And I use the 250 for shake. Excellent results.

Cheers,
SH

that's the post I've been waiting for. the order is in.

so is it worth getting a 25u bag? what kind of results can I expect out of it? is the water clear after the 35? or am i going to be dumping murky water not knowing if its trichs in there turning the water brown

The ones I got( gal size with draw strings) don't have a 25. They have the 35. I would suggest you ask them if they can substitute the 35( or any of the other high # bags you won't need) for a 25.

I wouldn't say the water is clear after the 35. I may try and run the water after the 35 through an even finer piece of material I have just to see if there is anything there. I have quite abit of sativa trim...and I hear the sativa heads can be pretty small.

I've never used bubble bags, but my understanding is that the 25u bag catches the small heads (from a tiny trichome'd sativa, or underdeveloped ones) that the larger filters didn't catch.
