proper eye protection for hps/mh lighting

after dropping two vert bulbs over my canopy my eyes can no longer take the abuse from hid lighting. I'm running 6k total, but only 2k vertically. Been using cheap sunglasses up until now and it's been fine.

I've been lookin all over the interwebs, but i'm still a little cautious about spending over 100 dollars for eye protection. I'm sure it's worth it. i just don't want to be dissapointed with my purchase.

soooo......any fellow growers use "special" shades in the garden? i wiuld LOVE to be able to see my girls in true color:bigeye: I posted up some of the places i came across online. I'm leaning towards the glasses that are 149.00 bucks.

any guidance is appreciated!

honestly, if your running hps, and i dont own them but have tryed them and am going to buy them, look at method 7 glasses, they are balanced specifically for hps light.

its amazing, looking through them the color rendition is almost perfect through the glass lenses, i mean under hps it looks like your in the sun or under mh. i was truly blown away, and they block 100% uva/b/c i believe.

I was hoping to hear from someone with first hand experience on the method 7's. Thanks for chiming in man!

I just wear regular polarized 100% UV blocking sunglasses.

Used to be the same here, but I recently had an old pair of glasses fitted with a new Rx and I got the polarized Transitions lenses. Haven't tried them with HPS, so I'm not sure if they'll work, but they work great the moment they're hit with UV light. I do keep the old polarized lenses that I used for diving trips down by the room still. Just a cheap $20 pair I got from either Walmart or Kmart. Sunshades is the brand, something like that.

You won't get used to it. You can't get used to it. It WILL damage your vision.

These http://www.safetyglassesinc.com/Uve...-Astro-Spec-3000-IRUV-30-Lens-Safety-Glasses/

Or the darker version: http://www.safetyglassesinc.com/Uve...-Astro-Spec-3000-IRUV-50-Lens-Safety-Glasses/

Both are adjustable. Price is right. I recommend the lanyard for convenience and to avoid scratching them. Good luck. -granger

thanks for the feedback. I found that those old grandpa type sunglasses that can fit over rx reading glasses work pretty well. my pops recently had eye surgery and he had an extra pair. light still penetrates through slightly, but not nearly as much as my other uv shades.

methodsevenz are on teh way! they shipped yesterday......so hopefully they land at my doorstep tomorrow. can't wait!

The lenses work well for color correction, but they are heavy, non-adjustable, and don't have have a great field of vision. A big overpay, but i guess we're used to that, huh?

Can you see through them, though? I can't have heavy lenses on the bridge of my nose, I get a red thing that looks terrible, then put a band-aid on it and look stupid with a band-aid on my face. Plus, the band-aid is just thick enough to change what part of the lenses I'm viewing through.

They should offer these as Rx lenses, then it's just one pair of glasses.

are there 2 types of UV with MH and HPS?
will the one pair of glasses work for both types of HID?
