Proof that your pots aren't tall enough

What about soil amount within the pots? was that fully tested?

I do know that "beds of soil" and LARGE plants is possible as well. I have seen it too many times. The roots tend to enjoy going "somewhere" and whether that is left, right, up or down they tend to grow decent sized plants.

I think it is just the restriction itself that is the issue.

Like those perfect pots, what if you had that material on the bottom of the pots to make the roots turn and grow back up versus bottlenecking?

Also doesn't the width of a pot determine the width of the plant? Same as the depth of the pot determining the height of the plant?

agreed. i don't believe you need a tall pot. you could just as well use a 2 foot tall by 1 foot wide pot and a 1 foot by 2 foot wide with the same results.

And P.S. to Ch@ppers.. i can't fuckin wait for that lowlife giant purple to come out! I saw in Skunk mag that they're comin out with a regular purple auto too but it's taking a while because a rat ate all the testing plants.. one survived with seeds so I guess it's just taking a while to build up the seed stock.. maybe it was the same strain you have and were referring to idk but still i can't wait! start up a thread when you grow out more of that or your own autos those look awesome and i don't want the hijacking to continue lol.

there is a purple auto already out. They are called Jems by Mossy.

Interesting discussion on root mass equaling plant health and size.
When I start out a seedling, I first begin in a 16oz beer cup, then I progress to a 2 liter pop bottle, eventually transplanting to a 5 gal bucket.
I have always believed that the first part of the plants life is in properly growing the root system. Normally, by the time I'm ready for the final pots, the tap root is the same length as the above-ground portion of the plant. Twelve inches above ground as well as twelve inches below ground. Of course, I have an eight foot ceiling to work with.
Once the plant goes in to the 5 gal bucket, it is afforded about 4 more inches of vertical downward growth and I also unwind the roots a bit and spread them out when transplanting so, they fill the bottom of the container.

I am also working on a system that takes advantage of the earths magnetic pull on root production with the added bonus of utilizing light-bending.

This photo shows a similar idea, simply place your bottle as shown and rotate a 1/4 turn each day.

This forces the roots to grow towards the center of the earth, regardless of it's position inside the growing medium. The rotation of the plant allows for the plant to bend towards the light, adding side branching all around the base of the plant.

It's a work in progress but, I thought maybe others might like to play around with the theory.

My plants seem to get enormous in my air pots....we have a grow of 4' bushes at the moment....but, they are a little on the tall side as well.

I use square pots and blocks to do that. My space is only 2 feet tall, but when I lean and turn them, I can still get 50 cm plants with nice buds. It doesn't really increase side branching, but it does make what would have been lower buds much better.

It's a little more work, but moving your plants like that everyday lets you catch stuff early if it starts to go wrong.

extra extra medium size buckets

extra extra medium size buckets

im not completely sold on the idea that autos have this huge deep tap root, all the males i killed at day 20-23ish werent even past 75% of the way to the bottom of my 1.5 gallon coco and stood about a foot, and another that i used for breeding that reached up to about 3ft after being taken outside for a week had a tap root when i culled him not any deeper. i think u gotta have a gallon to grow a decent auto, lets say that, no reason to go crazy.:deadhorse
