Problems growing from seeds.

Hoping previous seeds and new order survives and thrives!

The previous shipment, all seeds popped, 2 stalled at surface, and one has twisted leaves. I think they need multiple feeds a day in coco, for awhile. One that was stalled, just watered heavy, and started growing again.

It is the new ones I am stressing over now -

Kosher Kush
Sleestack
Headband
Truthband
DesFrans
Purple Afghan Kush
Skywalker Kush

That seems true about coco. Its nature would be to buffer any available minerals and nutrients almost rendering them unuseable by diffusion. Probably why coco gets so hot and loaded with salts eventually.

I personally can not stand coco, but for establishing genetics to take clones from, and make seeds, they are easy to move around, and can be grown off to sides, or under hydro plants (scrogged).

Should have also called it feeding them, and not watering. Giving about 100 - 150 PPM.

I think i would like coco in a compost. I would want it chunky and husky.
If you got the guts you can crack a seed with your teeth its easier not to crush the embryo that way. I tried sand paper and the seed flew out of my grasp and i lost it. It was a treasure seed and i wish i would have just cracked it with my teeth.

here's a short youtube vid on a sandpaper scarification technique. I either read about or saw a video on a similar approach where a guy lines the inside a match box with sandpaper, puts in the seeds, closes the box and shakes for a bit. less chance for losing the seeds inside the closed box. the approach in the linked video is pretty straight up simple though. I'll have to look for a bit to see how long they suggest you scuff them. good luck with them.

found the reference for the matchbox technique. It's from Kodiak's growing guide

Never encountered a cannabis seed that requires sandpaper.

I trust root riot style plugs. They keep moisture and keep the seed protected. They also keep the seed in once spot. Seeds can move in soil and seedlings need protected. Very high success rates. From seeds to clones, plugs work.

80 degrees is very high. Heat is a catalyst for growth but also bad things growing. Plugs will keep plenty of moisture and are secure for tiny waterings, but don't go crazy. Once it pops let moisture wick into the air more. Damping off isn't something I've done.

Is there anything other than bugs that could have caused the hole, and missing parts of the leaf on this plant. I had another that had same thing on top leave. Cut top off, and searched under microscope but saw nothing moving.

First picture is current plant, second picture is the leaves I cut of another, a few days ago.

I am going to spray them with neem, just in case.

Looks like hot soil to me.

I started the last batch with paper towel after 24 hours soaking. Some did not split ever. Was worried about drowning them, which is what I usually do. Moved to coco, and 10 of 13 popped. 2 are extremely stunted. The 3 that did nothing were over watered and turned to mush (they never opened).

These are new seeds, just came in. Only planting one of each at a time, to be safe. Plan on making hundreds of each, for backup.

I think I should be able to water them a coupe of times a day in coco, because of how much air they get.

Soak your paper towels then squeeze the water out before laying in a zip bag. You shouldn't have any water pooling what so ever.
Place your seeds between the p.towel layers & check daily.
Also, scuff your seeds before wetting them.
I use an empty seed container w/sandpaper cut to fit in it. Place seeds in container & close it then put the container in my pocket for a day.

Mushy seeds suck.
Hope this helps ya stop the mush.

I'm not 100% but sometimes the first true leaves can have some issues. I've seen it too many times to imagine after staring at plants for nearly 30years. I don't know if what I believe causes this type thing to happen is correct but it doesnt seem to really matter anyway.lol

I think the meristem is a gnarly part of the plant. It's got a lot of things it's gotta do and when you first fire the thing up, some of the parts aren't up to snuff and fail at making the "parts" correctly, or don't make the "part" or "section" at all.

Luckily it's gnarly enough to overcome this. once the machine is warmed up and running on all cylinders, it doesn't have this issue anymore.

I doubt I'm technically correct but like I said.... it's seems only the first leaves have the issues so I never really investigated it.

So yes..... something other than bugs can cause those type of things I think.

You should keep this zip bag in a warm dark place. Another way - is to cover it with saucer, as described here.

It's a good thing there were paper towels available in nature millions of years ago or we wouldn't have plants at all.
