That'd be a big negative. Although it wasn't like "Oz", he was wearing a jail uniform and he was locked up and could not leave. Nothing pretty about that. No access to computers, no electronic devices at all. I sent him books, but if they were hard cover, they had to come directly from a bookstore. Weird.

They don't want to have to look through the bindings to see if anyone has cemented contrband into the cover on a book; less feasible with paper-backs. (You can put several sheets of paper acid into the cover of a hard back book, and who knows what else.)

Specifically due to wanting to make sure that I was accurate about what I was saying, I called the fellow who did the 11 years, and asked him quite a few questions today.

I was wrong about some things; federal systems are not all standardized. Each place has admin that is empowered to set standards within reason at their specific facility. He said that there are more pleasant and less pleasant minimum security facilities, as well as with medium security, etc., and that if someone has taken an interest in an inmate (wanting to cause the inmate grief for example) that they can sometimes influence the process to send an inmate to a less pleasant place. Such was his case.

He said that they took over a year to set up a computer lab where he was, with the feds making sure at that facility that -all- links to the internet were removed. Considering that this meant even the update programs for simple office programs, it was apparently a pain in the ass.

Also, he apparently -didn't- tutor computer skills at that specific location, but rather while he was in holding, awaiting trial and later preparing for transfer, in a state facility. But the medium sec. FCI where he did his 11 years -did- finally get their computer lab going.

I was in a CA prison for 2 years for drugs. You start your journey in what is called Reception, there you sit, get photo for I.D., triage and sit more. You then get your house depending on history, mental health and space, etc...either dorm or 2 man cell. I went to a 2 man cell, you are locked down 24 hours a day, you come out to eat breakfast for 15 minutes and get a sack lunch, back in the cell untill dinner, another 15 minutes. You get to go to yard 1 time a week and are supposed to have dayroom/showers 2 times a week, however, this mostly depends on the guards mood. You stay here for about 90 days, you go to mental health, medical, classficiation ( this is called diagnostics ) and then you see a counselor, he then assigns you points depending on answers to questions like are you married, H.S. graduate, etc.., you must have proof of all this so have your people send to you because the lower the points you have the nicer the place you will go. He then asks where you want to go like he is really going to send you there. You then get transpacked to your mainline or perm. home. Levels 1 to 2 usually are dorm and you do not get your own t.v., there are 3 in the dayroom 2 English and 1 spanish. Phones are in the dorm as well as showers and 2 guards. No A.C., just swamp coolers for those 120 plus days. You can go to the yard pretty much from sun up to sunset and they open the door in intervals so you can come in and leave. You have counts a few times a day. But if you are low points and have no mental difficulties you can get a gate pass so you work out in the community or just outside the fence with basically no supervision which makes you feel a little more free. Levels 3 and 4 are lock down in a 2 man cell with yard but it goes off so much you never get out. You get a T.V., radio ,etc if you can afford one or get kicked down. Store is once a month depending on your CDC number, soda, ice cream. Bands come in and play, Taco Bell, Pizza hut once in a while, work helps the day and you get paid enough for food and hygeine for the month. If you are married you get a family visit where you and your wife stay in an apartment on the prison for the weekend. you get ice in the summer, can get packages with your sunglasses, sweats, jeans, sweat shirts, shorts sent in 1 time every 3 months. It is not like the movies, you do ont get raped, in facted it is looked down upon to have sex with another man unless yuo are a lifer. You stick with your race and county even if you are not racist. Just be respectful and you can go your whole time without fighting. It is all about how you carry yourself. Do not be a punk nor call anyone that, them is fighting words.

P.S. - I HAVE BEEN OUT AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY LAW ENFORCEMENT CONTACT IN OVER 6 YEARS, EVER SINCE I STARTED USING MEDICAL CANNABIS INSTEAD OF OPIATES FOR MY MEDICAL CONDITIONS.
