Alright time to give it another go.
first, a toke on some tasty Northern Lights

puf puf and away ....
after my last feeble attempt which ended in disaster,
've dusted off, the wounds have healed and i'm ready to give it another shot
some upgrades to the system are:
a nice smooth new S&P td150 exhaust fan

the HH deluxe was replaced with an Secret Jardin Dark Room 240w
and a high power (and very quiet) Alita al40 air pump

the rest is pretty much the same
2 600w hortilux eye bulbs with lumatek ballasts
8 bucket dwc ala BlazeOneUp
res has been moved outside to help keep things cooler
gh lucas formula, some maxi-crop seaweed blend,
and Organic Digester (a cheap pond enzyme formula -seemed to keep the res nice and clear last run)

i think for this run i've got a mix of nirvana's PPP, B-52, and BB x NL
and a Blue Apollo or two and some Sweetn'Sour Moonshine to choose from

girls will be in the system in an hour or two

back from the babysitters with a cooler full of clones
what do we got here???

some of the seedling i started before my vacation didn't make it through a rough heat wave we had here
the ones that did are a little iffy
got a couple strong clones to balance it out

2 Nirvana Pure Power Plants - are still hanging in there - not sexed
2 Blue Apollos - one on the edge and one looking pretty hopeful - not sexed
2 Kush's - which look pretty good and look like females
2 Sweet n' Sour Moonshines - from the same mother not sexed yet

Care to talk up the fan? It's been under discussion here http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=88471&page=1&pp=15 it would be great to hear a first hand report on sound levels and such.

i'll go check out that thread Freezer
actually i have the fan mounted straight to the wall right now and it does have a little vibration hum
(i'm trying to get this thin silent as we live upstairs and our house carries noise like a mofo)
not much though
im gonna remount it with some dampening material or hang it by bungies and report back
it seems to be just the right amount of ventilation for 2 600's (no speed controller)
actually, the speed controller is worse because at slower speeds it doesn't run as smooth
this is the same as the eliscent it replaced though,
more slow = more vibration
they like to be run at full volume im my limited experience opinion
i do think some insulated ducting would help a lot
because i can see the thermoduct i have now doing a lot of movement from the airflow

I've got an Elicent and that thing has to go. Would you rate "WHOOSH" of the S&P louder/quieter?

its definitely quieter freezer, but then again its only moving half (roughly) the air of the eliscent.
the woooosh sound is about the same as before
but less vibrational noise going on for sure

got em in the system late last night so, i'm gonna call this day 1
here's some of the subjects
first is a nice healthy kush plant, got 2 of those
nest is a Nirvana Pure Power Plant, got 2 of those from seed, hopefully get a good fifi
third is one of Joey Weed's Blue Apollos, got 2 of those not sexed, easy to see the blueberry traits in it
fourth is a Sweet and Sour Moonshine, got two healthy clones of that, not sexed

one thing i'm gonna try on this run is a 6 on/6 off/6 on/6 off light regime for the veg.
i read about it somewhere here and it sounded prett good..
one way to find out

yeeha, Ogenko. those girls are gonna take off like crazy.
I'd be way too chicken to try a different light regimen. So I'd never know if it works or not. Good luck.

it seems like i've honed my skills at killing plants
got any plants you might have a grudge against????
send 'em over, i'll take care of them
i came down with a great case of root rot
i keep my room very clean,
got plenty of air but the temps are a little high 72-73F
the outbreak did seem to coincide with the addition of Thive-Alive which i added to the res
so i cut off all my roots and gave em a dunk in H2o2 and a natural organic fungicide
and added some of each to the res to see what will happen

on a light note, i've been trying to figure out if this plant is gonna be male or female
it's like a bankok hooker...just can't tell but something dont look right

it's stretching pretty fast.the pre-flowers look like female but no hair
sure would be nice if it was fifi. it was a one of a kind seed of sweet-n-sour moonshine
see if i can save these guys but if not, i got some aeroduct channels coming *(dwc might not be for me)
and plenty of good seeds =)

Those aren't preflowers. They're ... uh ... pointy thingies (forgot the name) Your flowers will show up inside the "V" where the side stem branches from the stalk.

Nippler and Freezer: those little point thingys finally spit out some hairs. yessss!!
Hazy: got a few survivors.. only the tough ones
just got a chiller on them this morning so im back in the game!!

alright, i was so pissed at every week having to buy something else for this system
and making it incrementally more complicated..
this thing has turned out to be the opposite of Keep It Simple Stupid..
my babies were just about dead from sitting in hot water for 3 weeks
i guess its good, since only the toughest are gonna survive
the root temps where mid high seventies for weeks
and finally kicking and pissing i went a picked up a 1/10 hp chiller
more money, more electricity, and another possible problem
temps are in 67ish range now
looks like my 2 sweetnsour moonshines will make it (and i know they are fifis for sure now)
maybe the 2 pure power plants will make it
the 2 kush look pretty dead. doubt if they will come back
then got a blue apollo which might survive and 2 baby mk ultras which look alright
still on 6/6/6/6 light cycle
i think it'll work now that my temps are under control

ordered two 6.5' suregro nft channels from crop king for my next run

i think they will be much less hassle
and since im not growing trees, i think the 80 X 255 MM (or 2-3/4" deep x 9-1/2" wide) Channels should be fine

i've had a chiller on my system for 2 weeks now
before that everytning was root rotted and pretty ugly
i used some h2o2 to kill the rot
and then some pond enzymes to clean it up
here's what i got left
these two mk ultras seem to be doing just fine and are thriving
even under my 6on 6 off 6on 6 off light schedule

These two are strugling. they got roots but aren't really taking off yet??
they are supposed to be bib bud x afghani, but they dont match any description ive come accross??

then i got two of these Nirvana PPP's which were all but dead cause they where in big soggy rockwool cubes.
i pulled em out of the big cubes and am saying some prayers for them now

my sweet and sour moonshines weren't doing so hot (big soggy cubes)
so i took the better one and chopped it int 9 clones
they're sitting on top of my chiller where it's nice and warm
no cloning gel or nothing just h2o from the tap

almost 6 months of stuggling now
hopefully ill get this right someday =)

Still trying after killing more than my fair share of the tough weed
first i had a toxic hydro hut
then i got root rot (got a chiller now)
then a bout with root aphids (i think the nematodes and some hot water dips took care of them")
then experimenting with a 6 on/6 off light cycle (i saw it somewhere on the forums and it sounded legit, but the babies just werent growing )

So now im working with starting fresh with chiller and a mostly fresh batch
i sure hope i get a harvest someday
thank God for these forums to keep me goin!!!

The new lineup/ survivors:
Three sweet n sour moonshines (all from same mom, never fully tested yet)

Three some kinda kush's

one stragling MK-Ultra and a stragler afghani x big bud (? - that's what they tell me, but doesn't match any description i've seen yet)

the ak x bb was one of the ones that had a massive root aphid attack
nematodes and some hot water (120f as per forum advice) seem to have eradicated them
at this rate, i'll be happy to get some herb by the end of the year
but i'm gonna do my best to get it sooner =)
