Does any one out there with a plant biophysiology degree or an experienced grower know if powder mildew can pass itself onto the next generation through the seed??? Anyone else know if pow. mold is systemic?? Were having a huge debate on it here in humboldt and most think systemic???

Fungus and bacteria and viruses can all be trapped in and on the seed. http://web.aces.uiuc.edu/vista/pdf_pubs/915.PDF Powdery mildew somehow carried with the seed is probably not the cause of mature plants getting it or showing symptoms. Powdery mildew only grows on the surface of plant leaves and sends feeding organs called haustoria into the cells of the plant.

Thanks for the link-that's fascinationg. Maybe you can help on another front too. Wever been debating on whether or not p. mold is systemic to the plant. A few friends of mine in the hort. business say yes, but my research seems to point to the spore ability to overwinter and wait it out. It just appearssystemic cause its so insidious. However, from personal exp. with plants it seems to act in a systemic nature.

Powdery mildew never invades the plant only feeds on it. Systemic means that it spreads internally thoughout the plant which pm does not. If disease interests you, I suggest Plant pathology by George Agrios. You should be able to get this at your local library.

or get some warm tea and keep them in there for 5 -10 min, if the seeds are already wet, you dont want to do this on dry seeds, keep them in warm tea, no sugar or anything added, like a breakfast tea and soak them in there for a bit a remove them

tea has a benifical stuff that can kill off any bacteria or other stuff the seed may carry

powdery mildew and damping-off disease are two unrelated issues.
bud mold while drying is a different story... comes from too high an rh and not enough fresh air exchange

Gentic weakness is carried in seedlines but so are the survivors... maybe there is a seed in the batch the has built some reistance and made it stronger.

I was curious that if I took my purple bubblegum or trainwreck clones and selfed them so they could be stored in seed format while I take down the entire scene or move to a new scene and sprout them again to start fresh without mold spores in the house, would the powder mold seed be able to infect the plant tissue in some way or form? I've never seen or heard of anyone beating powder mold- ANd some of my friends goto university of davis for plant degrees and they haven't either. People use sulfur burners but im told this greatly affects the taste of the final product. And I live in the room adjacent so I'd be breathing sulfur. And friends that do use sulfur report that even after using it for considerable time, the mold comes right back once they stopped burning. I've lived in the same climate area for ten years and never had powder mold problem so I'm assuming that enviroment isn'tthe issue. While neighbors and friends are plagued by it. The only time i got this shit is when my friend gave me trainwreck and purple bubblegum strains I couldn't refuse. THey had mold. Now all my strains are affected by it.
Dazed and confused-
anybody out there know how to reach robert connell clarke (mari botany author)????? He would know the answer I'm sure
cheers,
mark

For powdery mildew, you can spray both sides of the leaves with 1 tablespoon (15ml) baking soda per gallon of water (3.8L). This will change the ph of the leaf surface and mildew can't grow. Sure its powdery mildew and not another fungus?

Yea It rubs off kinda hard but it does. This is on a strain I have SuperDiesal (SourDxSuperSilverHaze). I think it is genetically prone to mold and Ill tell you why. Their are 5 of us growing and all of us have this mold. We all grow diff in cabs, outdoor, and bedroom. None of the other strains have it until we go into flower and BAM the superD gets it then all of them get it. I HATE IT. I know Im going to have to stop growing this strain but it is so so so tastey. Its a good money maker also $450 oz to the local club :yoinks: . Will a sulfar burner change the taste of the bud? :chin:
