Potent Sativa for Outdoors at 43° N

Hello everybody as the title suggests I'm looking for a potent sativa that will finish in my climate. I'm at 43° N in the Midwest. I love racy, paranoid inducing, trippy Sativas but I'm not sure if such a sativa could finish in my climate. Late October is usually the end of the growing season here, however I have let plants go into November a couple times.

I have had my eye on ace seeds for a while now and am open to suggestions on which one would finish in my climate and give me intense sativa effects. I'm liking the sound of Malawi but I fear it won't finish. I'm also looking at Bangi haze as it finishes for my climate but not sure if it will give the effect I want.

I'm hoping to hear from anyone with experience growing ace seeds outdoors. I will most likely try something from ace this year.

Hi Boogieman,

I'm a Bangi Haze fan. I get about 25% of them that give me an incredibly clear and energetic high. In my opinion, they are not racy. They don't give me tachycardia or muscle twitches, but it is very motivational. The part that I find trippy is the fact that the senses are noticeably enhanced. Some of the stronger phenos don't seem to be as clear or trippy. The beauty is in the clean and clear high of what I consider the winning phenos.

I'm at about the same latitude, and I'm exploring C99 crosses.

I hope this helps,

ThaiBliss

Welcome 'Boogieman',

For your taste, latitude and climate i would recommend you Bangi Haze and Tikal.
Our strongest sativas that can be finished at your latitude are Malawi fem and Zamaldelica fem, i think you can finish both there if the season/beginning of Fall is not especially bad.

Hope it helps with your doubts and thanks for your interest in our sativas.

Thanks ThaiBliss, I'm definitely leaning towards the Bangi Haze right now. You say some of the stronger phenos are not as clear and trippy, do they still have a sativa effect like confused and hazy or do they have more of a indica type buzz? I have been reading many of your posts about Bangi Haze, and the more I read the more I want to try it.

I would not consider any of the phenos having an indica effect. Don't let the looks scare you. It did for me. I wanted my money back at first. Now, I'm making several crosses with them, and will be for the foreseeable future. I'm using these genetics to make other strains outdoor worthy.

Thanks for replying dubi. I'm leaning towards the Bangi haze however I will check out the Tikal too, which one has a stronger sativa effect? I'm liking the sound of your BH F-29 I'm reading about. I'm reading Bangi haze has good resistance to cold and wet conditions, how does the Tikal fare?

I might try one Malawi fem and see what happens. I fear if I run mostly Malawi or Zamaldelica many of my plants will never finish in my climate as I'm reading some go well past November to finish.

Appreciate your help ThiaBliss. When does the Bangi haze finish outdoor for you?

Zammy has been tamed a lot since the batch I grew out and generally has a much shorter flowering period than it used to, but you definitely should be wary of growing it outdoors in a region prone to early frosts. My example shouldn't be taken as exemplary of the strain since as I said I grew an early run of this strain, but of the two females I flowered one went about 14 1/2 weeks and the other went 18 1/2.

Hi Boogieman,

Yes, Bangi Haze has very good mold and cold resistance, it will finish first half of October at your latitude. Both Bangi Haze and Tikal have in average similar potency although i prefer overall Tikal over Bangi Haze, just personal preference.

43 Degrees north in the midwest is actually a seriously cold climate. That's like Michigan type weather which means freezes can come as early as September on a bad year. I would definitely stay away from any of the longer flowering tropical sativas. Nothing is worse than having all your hard work ruined by a fluke frost 3 weeks before harvest.

One suggestion I haven't seen anybody make is Nepalese Jam which is a very fast and hardy sativa. The only thing is it won't have nearly as electric and racy an effect as Bangi Haze. Nepal Jam certainly is still a sativa but it has a more warm, dreamy effect. All in all it's a really nice strain with good yield that finishes fast enough that she should be out of the reach of even your earliest freezes.

Lily might also be worth looking into. I have never grown Lily myself but I have heard lots of good things about it and it has the super short flowering period you are going to need.

I used to live in upstate New York which has the same sort of climate as where you live and I wouldn't touch anything that can go past early-mid October where you are unless you have a way to shelter your plants vs early hard freezes.

Thanks dubi, I have Bangi Haze fems on the way. Now you have me curious why you prefer the Tikal over the Bangi.

Your definitely right about my climate The Hatter. I'm just under lake Michigan in Indiana. The earliest I have seen a frost here is early October but that was years ago. It seems the weather is getting a bit better lately every year though.

Im growing a few strains that I know will finish I just want to try my luck with a sativa, I'm going to check out the Nepal jam.
