Pot size for max outdoor growth

Hey bro's. It's almost time to order me pots and I'm curious as to what you may think about pot size. I have the option to go with 5, 7, 10 or 15 gallon pots. I'm thinking about going with the 10 or 15 gallons sizes...My question is, is the 10 gallon enough to prevent rootbound or would the 15 be better?? I definately don't want my bud size to suffer any due to pot size.

if your growing from seed, definitly get the 15 gallon's.
i say bigger is always better.

but if your putting clones out, depending on how big they are initially and the date, pot size is extremely variable

How much space do you have outside?
How big would you like the plant to be, Tree size or small bush size?
How secluded is the outside space where you want to grow? How many plants do you want to grow? will you have space for all of them if the pot is very large?
Obviously the bigger the pot the more space that the roots have to grow and then the bigger the plant will be.

Pot size?

Pot size?

Hey TokinJoe I am using myself m8 what appears to be a bathtub for just One NL/BB fem seed. I hope she grows like the wind.
What a prediction!! I just orderd my 4 pack of white widow and have my NL/BB as well as Just Recieved my Bluemoonshine from Dutchpasion. Thing is my closet will only do 6 maybe 7 good plants! PLUS I just won some lifesaver from seedbay and have a bid for some Killer apllo. Guess I wil have seeds around for some time spec since this will be my last grow.;{ Oh well sorry to run on. The bigger the better pots I would think m8!
Peace
The NL/BB is in the big red Tub, with Mazar to the side and amhaze revegging behind:}

the bigger the better! i plant into the ground because pots are too obvious imo. if you let them grow all season they will be way too big for 5 or 7 gallon pots, so i would say the 15 gallon ones.

Ok, that pretty much answers my question, let me answer some of yours...These plants will be VERY secluded, on 300 very private acres. My only adversaries are LEO, who wont even see 15 gallon pots due to the undergrowth and camo efforts on my part, insects, and I've got something up my sleeve for them, and deer, for which I have 4 foot high chicken wire . The plants will grow full season, or, to the end of October if they take that long to finish. I'll have around 15-20, depending on where my buddy decides to grow. If I have to give up some of my spots, then probably 15 is the max I can do. I've checked out some pots online, and can get up to 15 gallon, but for 10 of them shipped, it will cost around 100.00. I'm thinking of just buying either plastic storage units, the big ones, or plastic trash cans and cutting them in half.

grow bags are cheapest, get the biggest size they have at the hydro shop. i would transplant once you know sex. try homedepot or lowes from trashcans on the cheap, or just pick them up on trash day for free.

Hey Supertoker, I've actually got some 20 gallon growbags. Problem is I won't be able to get the camo paint to stick to them like it will on plastic pots or trash cans cut in half. I'm a big believer in big roots making a big plant. In fact, I just mixed soil in 4 holes that I have dug and all of them took anywhere from 4 to 5 cubic feet of soil. Big holes, big roots, big plants, and hopefully, lots of big buds. We will see.

tokinjoe,

Instead of pots for some plants like you said, dig some holes. lay a tarp down, and dig a big hole next to the tarp so you can pile the soil on it. after its big enough for your estimated root ball, take half the dirt you dug and mix it with your medium to make it more drainable etc.

Before you put the medium back into the hole dump some gravel at the bottom to help drainage. after the holes filled with medium the dirts thats left can be pulled up in the tarp and moved for disposal, or to the next plant site.

Big holes with piles of fresh dirt scattered around stand out in the air. which is why the tarp is clutch.

alot of work, but its well paid :canabis:

What are you doing for your insects?

Also deer can jump pretty high. Do you think 4 ft will be enough??

My dad plants some crops for deer down here. He then spreads this real low grade Human Waste fertilizer called Pokanite I can find it out where to buy it. You just spread it around your plants and it lasts until your area has experienced 5-6 inches. It's $7 for one bag that will cover an acre. So 1 bag would do for 15 plants maybe two depending on your rainfall. Just a little something for you to ponder on. You'd probably want to keep that fence for all the little varmints. Pretty sure it kept most of those out also. I will find out if you want more info. Take care. Good luck. :friends:

Yup, i was just in Lowes a couple days ago looking at their 40-45 gl garbage cans, for only $20, and guess what? They come with wheels for ease of movement :biglaugh: And the one that don't have wheels, they have a separate wheel base you can buy!

I imagine U can grow a whole forest with a couple of those 45 gal tubs.

I think planting them in the ground is best, let them have an unlimited amount of soil to grow in their roots, just my 2 cents :canabis:

I'm going in-ground and adding to the soil (blood/bone meal, lime, guano). I was going to dig holes and bury growbags, but this just seems easier =/.

when i went outdoors ( and had years of success ) i would dig a hole and line the big hole with heafty trsh bags then fill in my soil mix. doing this was better for me. i tried to mix in the soil from the ground and found that the ph would make alot of my plants turn male. i also used grow bags and that was nice. remember it is not how deep the container is it is how wide,,,the roots from our girls like to grow out not down. so wider the better....good luck on your timber forest!!!!

have used 13,16, and (bigger is better) 22 gallon trash cans outdoors with very good results. With the 22s you get better than an inch a day(untopped) growth in may and june. All the trash cans we have used have been dark brown and twice have camo painted them but usually thats not needed. Can just imagine the results with 32 gal trashcans. Have also used bags in the ground (definatly half bury trash cans for cam value). They work but why bother with any of it? We prefer to just make big holes in the ground if the digging is easy. Bury some manure mixed with organic bulb food and bone meal down deep and the plant will feed itself all season. Do not leave fingerprints on trash cans! One other idea that has worked well for us: forget about having to water when it hasnt rained by planting near willows. Large willows (out here in the west) indicate year-round underground water available to large cannabis plants--- even in a drought year. This lets you go on vacation worry-free.
