Possible to run 600 watt bulb in 1000watt ballast?

Would like multiple tents/lights and would rather do a 400 and 600 or two 600s than one 1000. Doubt I could run a 1000 and fan and other light on such an old circuit.
Already have stuff for 1000 watts and no money to get a less powerful one. What would happen if I started using a lesser powerful bulb? Would it blow immediately, or would it work?

It would probably not blow immediately, no. But it would not be safe, you would be crazy to do it. Best case scenario would be that it would fail very quickly. Worst case scenario involves your home burning down.

Why don't you run an extension cord from an outlet on another circuit to run some odd items like the fan and such. This way you can plug your 1000 etc. in on the circuit in the room. Surely this might not be possible but it might be... Only you know.
Definitely do not just go screwing around with the wrong wattage bulbs, though!

Every hydro shop I have asked a question like this said NO, you cannot go over or under except a 430w bulb on a 400w ballast

2 ballast will most likely be more inefficient then 1. A 600w ballast does not draw 600w.

why does someone ask this every week there should be a note at the top of the forum that says, don't mix and match differnet wattage bulbs and ballast, your talking about 1000 watts of energy though a 600 watt bulb that is NOT SAFE i get tired of hearing about cannabis-related house fires bc ppl aren't being 100%

i mean at least you asked , id hate to think of how many ppl out there think its cool to "overdrive" a bulb , but it simply isnt' safe can make ur bulb explode sending hot glass everywhere and can set your house on fire....
