Poll: Photo Of The Month – August 2010

LOL. First of all, let me preface this by saying I voted for w33dstar, but only because Doobieduck's photo was omitted alongside my own. The composition of that photo was unreal. A magical moment, for sure. I would not have voted for my own shot and with the field of competition this month, and had absolutely no expectations of winning. On the off chance that I would have won, I would have donated the seeds to the server fund. So this is not about sour grapes... But I never back down from a blatant misuse of "power" and your privately stated reasoning for omitting my shot from the voting is more than a bit dodgy.

Why did you PM the answer to my question rather than post it publicly? My recollection is that the TOU says I can't post the content of that here so it will forever be a mystery unless you decide to post it in the open.

Unless my reading of the rules you posted at the beginning of the August POTM thread was flawed, there is no provision for you acting with the type of discretion you outline in your PM to me.

Again, I had no expectation of winning, but when I participate in something, I expect to be treated fairly. And I would hope that future participants in the POTM competition can have that expectation as well.

It was a 'blatent misuse of power' not to choose your photo for the poll? You say it's not sour grapes but it's starting to sound like it. Whether you believe my reason for omitting your photo is 'dodgy' or not is irrelevant, you asked for the reason and that was it.

I PMed you the reason because you and I are the only people it concerned, it didn't involve anyone else. I didn't even have to respond to your question but I still did

What are you talking about? You asked for the reason and I gave you it, simple as that

You posted the rules. Where does it say that you "choose" the photos for the poll? i thought it was based on who gets nominated? but you are asserting the "power" to choose who's in and who's out based on "reasons" you make up in the moment rather than the posted rules for the contest. That's a misuse of power.

According to the rules you posted, there is a framework for nominations. You do not "choose" who is included in the poll. If you do so desire to choose then the rules should say that "management reserves the right to omit any submission for any reason they deem valid"... or "just because you were nominated by your peers, don;t expect to be included in the poll."

Again, I'm not all about some sour grapes. I would have never voted for my own pic. HL is a good personal friend and its all in good vibes...

If i noticed the arbitrary omission of anyone's justly nominated pic, I'd raise the same stink... Only reason I noticed it is because it was my pic, granted, but it should make no difference.

you're right, I do. I missed that part. you could have quoted that before I made an ass of myself. I did posit the idea that I had misread the rules in my first post. My bad.

what happened to the thread for nominations of august? and all the others for 2010 besides june. theres always a pic i thought shouldve made it in and i try to g back and see which it was but the threads gone

I have nominated people twice and both the times my nominations didn`t made it into the poll...
Do you hate me or something?
Also lots of the nominated pics are not present here at the poll.
How exaclty do you choose which one are going to enter the vote?

It is only the pictures that are judged when making the poll, not the people who nominate them so it's nothing personal

In the nominations rules it says 'Up to 10 finalists are selected from all nominations' so not all nominations are certain to get into the final poll, being nominated gives you the best (and only) chance of being in there though
