Hi guys,

I'm betting the majority will be storing their seeds in the refrigerator but it sure would be interesting to see how many freeze their seeds or use a different method.

I have set the settings so you can give multiple answers in the vote. This way that people who use a combination of methods for their seed collection can say so.

Feel free to also discuss or give more info below.

Cheers

the fridge as I feel 10 years + is more than enough time......... altho sometimes the rot can set in before their even stored ...when buying seed, unless you know thier fresh or packs have manufacture dates like ace seeds, one can't really be certain of their age or how they have been stored by the wholesaler ...i always remember the 'true blueberry' issues years ago .....very expensive dud seeds 0/10 1/10 ect ...then chimera sent in some properly stored true blues made at exactly the same time and growers were posting 10/10

Fridge. Stored in old school tupperware which is air/ light tight. Everything stored inside is either in glass or white seed envelopes.
Just had ten year stored seeds make it to Hawiivee and didnt hear any complaints....

I am thinking alternate methods especially luddite tech that is passive like a storm cellar or even better a "seed cave". Maybe just an improvised garbage can buried somewhere in a perpetually shady area. Something.....

If you are in this neck of the woods you probably lost power twice in the last 18 months and know about 2020s fires and then the ice storm in the valley. I have way too much shit to be relying on artificial power.

Solar is expensive and only practical half a year at best. Propane may be an option for off grid oopsies....when the need arises. Still thinking but aloud....

Hi everyone.
To preserve the seeds well, it is important to dry them properly.
Dry them with non-toxic silica gel. (Orange)
Low humidity around 10% -20% and temperature 22°-24° for 15 days minimum to 30 days maximum.
This is important especially if they are going to be frozen.
If they are not dried and frozen directly, their germination percentage can decrease as the water inside them expands and breaks cell membranes.
For small quantities Eppendorf tubes with cotton and silica gel can be used. For larger quantities they can be vacuum packed.
Then in the fridge at 4° or in the freezer at -18°.

Both...

I have 15+yr old seeds in the fridge and freezer. All were dried using oven dried rice as the desiccant. (Much drier % than regular dessicants can reach)
Germination rate is still near 90% on everything I've sprouted the last few years. :D

Well dried and in the Freezer. The DC seeds i sent to @Tonygreen had been in my freezer for at least 10 years.. 20 out of 20 popped.

In the old days I didn´t think much about this sort of thing, but these days I prefer the fridge. You can still put them in the freezer overnight or longer before germing them.

Fridge same place as all my unrooted cuttings .:freezing:.
really? wow, I´ve never tried putting my cuttings into the fridge. I do it with my regular herbs, in fact I got some parsley in a glass of water in there right now, but it nver occured to me to put my weed in there.
how do you store them when you keep them in the fridge?

You can a do tupperware or a simple baggie. Florist tech...lol. I have had seeds for 10 plus years in the fridge sealed with a bit of drying agent. Having no problem germming them at all. Pleased!
Have a great day all. negative

In the fridge in coffee vacs (I have a few of them). Inside that are packs of silica and the seeds themselves in the packaging they came in. Seeds I made are usually in empty spice jars or baggies with silica packets.

Are those of you who store in the freezer doing so in a frost-free freezer?
