So i just picked up my merlin garden pro today and i was so happy! I got back , lubed it up and got it assembled. I then went to unscrew the shower head so i could connect the garden hose adaptor. Well what do you know the freakin shower head and neck just snapped right off! i have an access point behind the shower and now im lookin at a copper pipe with an elbow at the top where the shower neck was attached. It looks like there was a small section of copper pipe that connected the copper elbow to the shower head neck piece. And part of that piece still seems to be in the elbow. How do i get that piece out, and install something that i can hook up a garden hose to? Do i need to weld..? i hope to god not! im really stuck here pls help! thx

A small tube cutter, compression fittings, Teflon tape, wrenches and whatever piece of appliance needed to complete the run. Hope this is of some help to you. Good luck!

If that elbow is a kinda fat, cast brass one, as opposed to a regular copper elbow, it is threaded inside. The pipe/tube coming out of it is what is left of your neck. You should be able to unscrew the part of the neck that is still sticking out of the elbow.

its not threaded. the copper pipe is sealed inside of the elbow is what it looks like. its not protruding out tho, so i cant just try to pull it out. It broke off flush with the elbow.

I have never seen a shower riser that wasn't threaded. It's possible, but highly unlikely.

You can use an Easy-Out to try to take the remainder of the riser out of the elbow.

If that doesn't work, you need to replace the elbow, which is about a five minute job requiring $3.00 in parts. The elbow isn't welded, it's soldered.

If you want to get ghetto, you can cut the pipe with a tubing cutter and put any old compression fitting on there to hook up to.

LOL - It took longer to type this reply than it would have to fix your problem.

This is kind of redundant since PharmaCan said it best. But Here's an easy how to (coming from an ex-plumber) on how to fix it the right way for reference:

Tools/material:

-Copper 90degree elbow

-short run of copper pipe

-Solder

-Torch

-Small Pipe wrench or Pliers

- Flux

1. Put pliers to base of elbow
2. Take take torch flame to elbow
3. Once the solder heats up twist the elbow off. Toss it (or remove the small piece of pipe and re-use elbow)
4. Apply flux to inside/outside (do outside once elbow is on pipe) of elbow and outside of pipe
5. Fit elbow to pipe
6. Take take torch flame to elbow
7. Once hot enough (test by touching solder to pipe, when it melts, it's ready) run your solder around the joint.

repeat the process for attaching the other end.

I still think it's wierd that the end isn't threaded cast pipe. Every one I've seen is.

Good luck

Peace,

u can buy push together fittings called shark bites or just cheapie plastic ones to get the copper pipe to a cpvc water pipe that can be put together with glue . i just spent 40 mins on lowes.com and they do not have a link to one but the yellow looking plastic water line and copper have the same outside diameter u will need 1/2" cpvc and a push on connector and some glue and a elbow and a 1/2"cpvc to 1/2" threaded connector and just glue them together.
if u have not gotten this fixed by the am pm me and i will walk out to the barn and lay everything out in a picture so u know what you are looking for at the hardware store so it can be done easily and with no fire. i know there are no plastic type that lowes carrys out there but there are a few brass ones that look identical to the plastic ones there,

id go tonight but its dark cold and raining and a freakin long walk in the dark and up hill both ways!!!!!!! :bashhead:

it must be threaded then. so i can use something called an easy out to get that copper pipe unthreaded from the elbow? that would mean that i wouldnt need to even disconnect the elbow, i could just insert the new arm right? will the new arm to the shower head just screw directly into the elbow, or do i need to do a procedure?
