I know this post is old.
For years I have been using fafard promix and it has plenty perlite in it so no need to add anything. Floranova does work great with it but I add a couple other goodies to it anyways.
3 to 4 plants per 1k of lighting is perfect but you must use BIG containers for big treez. Average yield is 1.4 to 1.6 lb per light.
As you aware of the insects ruined your crop and yield.
