thats the only way i can describe it. it smells like rotten eggs even.
so heres where i think i went wrong. i mixed a bale of promix, 2x 30 lb. bags of worm poop and a box of fox farm peace of mind (fruit & flower) dry granular fertilizer. i didnt add any water to it but i let it sit on a tarp on the floor for about a week without any air circulation and when i checked on it the whole room reeked like amonia. well i needed to use the soil that day so i put the soil in my 1 gallon grow bags and flushed them really well with tap water (im on a municipal water supply w/ chlorine in the water) thinking that would get rid of the prob. and the runoff was very dark brown not that that mattters. so i put my clones in the bags and its been about 1.5 weeks since then and the soil in the 1 gallon bags reeks like ass really bad. is this normal? the plants seem fine other than a little tip burn from the nutes. so what gives? should i worry? i think the best thing for me to do at this point is let the soil dry out real good but i dont know. i have since added a fan to the dry soil on the tarp and it seems better now. thanks for any help

Yup, anaerobic bacteria have taken over your soil mix, but they won't survive long if they come across some fresh air!

You can either add perlite to your mix and repot your plants, or if you're feeling lazy try poking holes in your soil through the whole height of your container in order to aerate your medium, and make sure they drain well!

Just don't forget to keep that pile of soil aerated next time it's cooking :joint:

Peace

thanks all. since i smelled that strong amonia i put a oscilating fan in the room and have been turning the mix regularly and it seems much better now but those 1 gallon bags still reek so ill try to get some aeration in them. thanks again guys

Wow that is alot and you guys might be spot on as any time my soil starts to smell funky it only takes a matter of hours to intergrate oxygen and get it smelling earthy again.Im suspecting yer gonna have to cut it with somthing dry like another entire brick and let it cook for awhile b4 you use it otherwise itll be instant death to any plant that gets put in it.Wow 18lbs that must be a typo.

Fruit & Flower Fertilizer

Fox Farm Peace of Mind Fruit & Flower Fertilizer (5-8-4) is specifically designed to supply essential nitrogen for vegetative growth. Also contains a high percentage of phosphorous for luscious fruit and flower development. Encourages healthy root systems, large bud set and multiple branching. Peace of Mind Organic Fertilizers include mycorrhizae and humic acid.

Directions for Use:

New Container Plants: Add 1 tbsp. Peace of Mind Fruit & Flower Fertilizer per gallon of soil.

Established Container Plants: Use 1/2 - 3 cups per plant. Feed monthly throughout the growing season. Lightly scratch into the top 1" of soil and water.

New In-Ground Plantings: Dig a hole 2-3 times larger than the root ball. Add 1/4 cup Peace of Mind Fruit & Flower Fertilizer per 5 gallons of soil mixture.

Established In-Ground Plants: Use 1/2 - 3 cups per plant. Feed monthly throughout the growing season. Lightly scratch into the top 1" of soil and water.

New Row Plantings: Add 1/2 cup Peace of Mind Fruit & Flower Fertilizer per 10 sq. ft. of planting area.

Established Row Plantings: Use 2 - 3 cups per 10 sq. ft. of planting area. Feed monthly throughout the growing season. Lightly scratch into the top 1" of soil and water.

18lbs and you used all of it??
If Oblidio has that right then that soil is toast.:hotbounce:

As mentioned it's gone anaerobic but with that much FFPOM in there the bacteria are going to go nuts.

AF please confirm your recipe.

Peace

sorry guys im on vacation and ive got a second. yes i used an 18 pound bag. i got this recipe from a grower in BC. the recipe is as follows:1 bale of promix, two 30 pound bags of wormcastings, and one 22 pound bag of gaia green power bloom 2-8-4 fertilizer, and extra perlite. the one thing i had to improvise on in the recipe is the fertilizer cause i cant get that gaia green fertilizer locally cause its from BC. thanks again for all your help. the ready mixed batch i have waiting is doing fine but like i said those 1 gallon pots reek. ill just have to wait until i get home to check on them again i hope they have dried up good. what ill prob do is soak each of them in the tub and get as much of the rootball free and transplant into new soil in 3 gallon pots and after they recover from the shock they will go into flower.

What are you aying that you already have plants growing in this mix?And they are still alive?Wow.good luck on yer part I guess.Dude I would seriously CUT IT like 50/50 with somthing inert like another half a brick of Pro mix.Itll cause more and more trouble in the long run if you dont. These are time release ferts you are not going to be able to simply rinse them out.Especially now that its had time to cook and really work into the soil.CUT IT!!Hope it all turns out okay braw, good luck!!Gromerr Pott!!
