Please help me cover the basics for big, odd shaped room.

Hello everyone, i'm trying to go over the things I need to help my good friends set up a grow operation.. They're relying on me, and I'm relying on you guys, heh.. so just help me go over the basics, I will get more specific and detailed as I get closer to setting it up.. I dont have exact measurments yet, my friend tried to tell me them over the phone, but was very confusing due to the shape.. i'll try to make it simple for now..

The room is basically shaped the like top quarter of a stop sign. The ceiling is 7 ft tall, but slants about halfway into the room to about 3' - 4' tall where it meets the wall.. thats the tricky part.. other than that, the room is about 10' long, and about 5' wide.. (i'll get more exact number when i can, but I need to at least get an idea of what i'll need in terms of lighting/venting/electirical shit, ect.) So just say we're looking at a room thats 4' - 5' wide, by 10' long, by 7' high (slanting about midway through down to 4' where it meets the back wall)

I'm just curious as to how much light you all will think I will need, i'm interested in light rails if they are worth it.. also wondering if i'll need a special breaker or something to support the amount of wattage it would take to use this room to its fullest. I can maybe split the room and have a smaller mother chamber, which is what I was thinking.. sorry for the lack of info I have, and I promise i'll get more specific asap.. but just wanted to start with general things I should be thinking about.. any help is GREATLY appreciated

okay, rather than making a new thread, let me just try to get more specific here.. i was able to get some pretty exact measurements, at least good enough for you guys to hopefully be ble to help me out.. let me try to post a small very poorly, and not to real scale scetch i did with the paint program

the room is 6 feet wide x 11 feet long x 7 ft tall (slanting to 3.5 feet tall)

I guess i'll start by asking basic questions like how do I determine how many lights i'll need? I think I want to start with maybe half the room, and also make a seperate chamber in the room for mothers, but I dont want to start full on right away.. but still I would like to know how much light i'll eventually need, so I can figure out if I need to replace any wiring/breakers.. any first hand knowldege would be very helpful

Well a 250w hps can support a room thats up to 3'Lx3'W, a 400w hps can support a room thats up to 4'Lx4'W, a 600w hps can support a room thats up to 5'Lx5'W, and a 1000w can support a room thats up to 6'Lx6'W.

Well, I think i'll probably be using 2 1000s, unless people think e 600s would be better.. also trying to figure out what size I should make the mother chamber, and what light I should use in there.. help?

2 1000 watt lights would probably cover most of the room, from what I can gather.. how do i figure out the watts/square foot thing?

Well the general rule is that plants get 50 watts of HID lighting for a good harvest. The formula for watts per square foot is: (Total Lighting Wattage) divided by (Length x Width of grow area). So lets say you have a room that 6'Lx6'W, and 2000 watts of HID lighting. Now all you have to do is plug in the numbers: 2000/(6*6)= 55.556 watts per square foot, which is above the 50w/sqft rule.

Mother plants dont need alot of light, you can just stuff them in a small cabinet with about 70 watts of light, and youre good to go. A 175 watt metal halide in a 4 square foot area is perfect for any job.

Ok.. I'm thinking i'll need 2, posssssibly 3 1k lights.. then maybe a 400 or 600 for the mother cab.. can anyone tell me what i'll have to do about the current wiring/breaker? Or offer any advice to help me tackle this? I'm suprised, pontiac are you my only friend?

Heh, yeah, well this one was up for a good 3 - 4 days first, and then I realized I must have asked too many questions, so I started another thread just trying to tackle the light set up.. this one is more for everything, but help in either thread would be appreciated, as setup is gotta be soon

question, where is the door located?

I would get some panda film and split the room up into a veg/mom section and a flower section.

IMO, i think it would be best to have the 2'2"x7'x11' section be the flower section, and the rest be for veg/moms.

For the flower section, I would get 3 600W lights. 2xHPS and 1xMH. Mount the MH in the middle of the 11' length, and mount the HPS lights on either side of the MH at equal distances.

For the veg/mom section, because of the weird shape of the celing, I think it would be best to mount whatever lighting you choose to go with verticly. As far as what type of lights, I would say go with a couple 200W or 400W MH bulbs.

What are you thinking for ventalation? Is smell an issue yo need to worry about?
