Playstation 3 (game chat) safe chat ?

Was wondering how safe it would be to use the PS3 to talk to your buds off the radar ?

Depends, does Sony handle all the server traffic for their games, or is it on each game development co. to do this?

e.g. Halo 3 is on Bungie servers, not Microsoft. Theoretically if the same is true for PS3 i'd say it's "safer" as you can hop servers to a new game...

Safe? - maybe
Safer? - certainly

Safe enough? - I don't know.
VOIP to VOIP is relatively safe, but safe is only a relative term.

If I need to communicate with others abroad with sensitive information like a grow, this is what I would do.


I would type what I needed to say and encode the text.
-- encode using a site like this: encode text

I would use a program like 'hide in picture' to put the text file in to a picture, google it.

Then I would have a free email service account (everyone in the loop would need access to the same account).

Then I create a new email message, insert the picture as an attachment.

DO NOT SEND THE EMAIL!!!
Instead save the email as a draft.

Then everyone in the loop can log in to the service, and see the recent drafts.

Download the picture and reverse the process.

I know this seems like alot of work, but if security is your concern, this is top notch.

Edit: You and the others could use proxies to access the email service.
There are also private email services also.

Actually, Sony just changed their terms of use to allow them to record and monitor voice communications over the PSN. Not safe at all, well maybe in the "little fish, big pond" way but that would be all.

IIR all online traffic in tunneled through the Sony DNAS system to check legitness (word? lol) of your system i.e. no modchip, etc. Why do you think you can't play online with a mod chipped ps2? Other than that, the individual game companies do host their own servers.

I play on XBL and i was playing with some guys that was friends with a friend of mine, long story short they were trying to talk discretely about work and such, i was picking up pieces of the convos as i was dying in gears. But these guys were DEA agents. I know one of the guys was from florida. Also they were garbage at gears i was making quick work of them before i got booted,and thats when the conversation got interesting

Be safe you never know who your playing with or who's listening

Like i said above, Ps3 i wouldn't even dream of saying anything over. XBL, if you enter a private chat you have a bit more "safety" (only in the fact that it's not public, and XBL doesn't monitor chats as a rule) vs PS3.

If you do chat over games, i'd use private chats, and still don't get so obvious about it...

ok so lets all us pot heads/growers launch our own sattlites from some small 3rd world country and then route all traffic through there via a sattilite on out roofs and we would need a army of encripters and decoders on each end with x boxes and then maby ill talk about dealings other than face to face
lets get real there is no safe way of talking on any type of voice communacation and very limited safty even using encripted messanging services anonamus e mail services and even proxy servers

It's all about risk. Someone risks an 18 hour drive with product... someone else risks talking about product over PS3/Xbox.

ninfan77 people are more than willing to strip to make things go smoothly and avoid holes. you are absoultly right it is a risk to drive 18 hrs with product but i have not seen the new police cars with on board plasma cutters to cut body panels away to find triple vac sealed product, when i see or hear of them driving around in service trucks with oxy/actlin torches or plasma cutters i will worry and re think my stratigys!!!
better yet ill smear some bud juice all over my ride so they cut it up and then ill be suing the pd for destruction of a antuique automobile!!!!
