buying time is nearly always worth the money. add in the space, work/effort, materials...
Saves so much work and resources if you can throw half of those away at that stage.
interesting, i'm sure paying for tests will be worth it for some...
Im in the UK, but would be unlikely to pay much for a test even if available.
My cheapskate method - when the young plants have 4 or so nodes, put them into height order. The tallest are likely to be males and the shortest the females. Last time i did this the shortest, numbered 1-6 were all female. the tallest, numbered 7-10 were all male.
so if the seeds aren't costing you loads of money or you have plenty of them.... just throw the tallest of the plants away and it is very likely that they will mostly have been males.
Obviously for best results the plants need to be grown in a uniform manner.
