plant sex test

anyone try this? steep hill labs seems pretty legit. it would save so much time and resources. I want to try it for my outdoor this year. there was a thread about it in the tokers den but i want to know what the outdoor seed growers here think?

I havent made seeds since 03
but I have a sunporch that faces due south and start seeds out there early
first potting they went into an area out below the porch that had more of a tight window of light in and was more of a Western exposure. I left them there for about 3 weeks before single hairs would pop
moved those to the full sun again and they blasted off. grew extras and those that didnt show by time I had enough females out went back to the ground

guess it depends on how many you are doing and how simple it now is to get a sample tested and paid for at a lab
sure some work just keeping track of all the sampled plants etc...
maybe Im just an old dawg :)

Price depends on how many you buy.... you can get it down to 10$ a plant. I pop around 250 seeds to get to 25 keepers so 2500$ to save a little transplanting isn't worth it for me.... plus I like to keep an eye out for special males...

I always just changed the orientation like that to more sheltered and westerly from southerly direction so few less hours light on em and watch close so I got them out with just 1 or 2 hairs showing (optimally). About the time they showed the 4th branch nodes and it never seemed to slow them much to go back to vegging with nitrogen and sun right away.

definately costs less if you have the time

i have 600 starts going with more on the way and limited space in my greenhouse. It would also be nice to know so i can throw them straight in the 3-600 gal pots when they fill the 1 gal pots i start em in, instead of throwing in 10-15 gal pots and waiting till may for them to sex

There are a couple other groups doing this now. Think they also do volume discounts

Phylos Bioscience - $15/ seedling need round seed leaf
Medicinal Genomics - $100/ plant need serrated mature leaf
Screen Your Green - $25.99/ plant need serrated mature leaf

yeah good info , "home use" being the key word in my post .
its only really going to be practical for peeps in the states that one . very good pricing though .

i,d like to see a home test kit designed , a do it yourself test . its only matter of time .

^ for indoor maybe, but this is in the outdoor thread. i don't add any artificial lights to my starters at any time

Just ordered some kits from steep hill labs, I Have a bunch of seedlings about 6 in tall to test. I will report back in a week or so
