Planning a first time setup-Help please

Hey all, I'm in the early stages of planning my first indoor/soil grow room!

I'm interested in converting a home room into two separate mother-veg / flower chambers.

For the flower chamber I was thinking of running 2x 600 watt HPS with a 400 watt MH between them. I figure this would provide better spectrum/end product than just an HPS room. Is this an ideal lighting setup? If so, what kind of dimensions would be appropriate for this? I assume some rectangular shape, and I could just rotate the plants to ensure proper light distribution?

I'm planning on using smart pots, what size would be optimal for this size room? I'm not even sure about optimal veg time, I'm thinking 2-3 weeks?

For my veg/mommy room what type of lighting would you recommend? I'm guessing another 400 MH, or would floros be better? Trying to keep the power bill at an inconspicuous level.

Finally, where should I buy seeds from. It's been years sense I last ordered them. I see we have a site sponsor but it appears Seed Boutique doesn't take credit cards... Who do yall recommend?

Thanks to everyone in advance, excited to be joining the community!

Also, what about c02?

What's the easiest system to manage? I see a lot of burners available, but how does one do about filling the propane? Do they just hook up to standard grill tanks or something?

You'll cover a lot of ground with the 1200W from the two 600W HPS alone, and I honestly don't think you need the 400W MH for the bloom room. It doesn't really make that much of a difference, I've been told by people who have tested it personally. You'll get odd grow patterns, you'll have to move every plant around to make it even, it's just a hassle. Stick with the red in flower, and the blue in veg.

Another point to consider: You need different humidity requirements for either state. Veg and bloom. Bloom - 45%-60%. Veg - 50%-70%. So if you're doing both of these, you'll have to make both halves controlled... At different humidity levels. Might try a tent for the veg section, and make the room your bloom? Just a thought! Get hoods with air cool options. Not open ended. (Saving that 400W MH for your veg would save you money. Fluros are great for cloning/rooting, but not aggressive vegetative growth, though in time, they'll get them growing provided it is high enough and not too close so they know to stretch toward the light)

Just use the hps the mh won't make a amazing difference. Probably wouldn't even notice the difference unless you studied the spectrums closely. There's full spectrum his out there anyway.

I use CFL for my beg room but mh in the past.

Your second post asks about co2. Learn first then tech up.

Study study study and ask away and learn as much as you can. Invest in a couple good books my first was dj shorts book. A life changer early on

I used mh in the past use big 200 watt CFL now. I like them both, the growth is just as agrees ive with the cfl as MH I find but obviously the mh is better in bigger spaces

For some reason I was thinking T5-T8s... My buddy recently got himself a 300W CFL and a reflector (though I have a theory that it would be better off without a reflector and hanging vertically in the center..) And the brightness! It's intense. It's his first time growing too and he fried his clones... Then got spider mites... Then the mildew came.. Poor guy. >.<

But them CFLs in high wattage aren't bad at all! And you don't even need a ballast, plus you save on your power bill. But MH are best for larger areas, yes sir. Plus, the lumen intensity is outstanding compared to that of a high wattage CFL.

Thanks for the replies all!

I haven't actually bought any supplies yet so I'm still very flexible.

Since yesterday I've actually been thinking of scaling down a bit from my original plans.

I'm thinking it would be easiest just to set up 2 side-by-side separate 4x4 grow tents. The veg would run a 400MH on 18/6. The flowering on 12/12 with the best spectrum 1000HPS I can get my hands on.

To cool the lights, they will vented together, and I'll be pushing air through them from the surrounding room (cooled by normal house AC) into the room's AC ventilation duct.

I plan on having a passive veg room intake, and pushing air from that tent into the flower tent. From there I will pull it through a carbon filter and vent to to the attic (possibly through an additional ozone UV filter, anyone have any experience with this?) I live in a hot-humid climate that drops into the 50s just a few times a year, if this helps. Does this sound safe?

I was inspired by this diagram except I will only be using a single HPS and do not have any kind of chimney to hook my exhaust to.

Thoughts?

Also, do y'all think can fan 2 would be superfluous, and a simple passive light-proof vent would be sufficient?
