Can't find much information on what I'm involved in this year. I decided to do an outside grow for the first time after finding there's a large island made by a creek diverging and reconverging just outside a lake. On top of that, there's an invasive species from brazil that has taken over the land with very tall stalks that have all died in a recent ice storm, making my grow spot even more imperceptible. Originally I was just going to dig a large plot for 10 autoflowering plants in a dense patch of one of these invasive species. I ended up with a 9x9x5 foot hole with 2 feet of dirt on the sides, about 7 solid hrs of work. I plan on putting plastic over the top of this for a greenhouse. Since I'm already in the clay layer I was planning on digging three and five gallon holes and filling it with coir, since I'm also doing regular seeds I was going to install a scrog on half of the area to keep it all in the greenhouse. Once I harvest the autoflowers I'll be planting clones from the scrog and hopefully keep this spot in production all year long.
I am uncertain if the sides will hold up when it rains or if it will fill with water even though it can't come in through the top. I'm also not sure if the intense sun will force me to open up the plastic sheeting during the summer or what kind of ventilation I need to have. Is 5 feet enough or should I be going deeper for better temperature control. I really want superb sun grown herb and I figure this setup will protect the plants from the elements while hiding them from helicopters (they were flying this area last year)
