Pics of two clones , here goes nothing!

Got a couple of clones yesterday. An Alaskan strain, and a New York Deisel/Skunk. This will be my first attempt. I have them now under 4 23watt cfl's and will be switching to M/H 400 watt as soon as they look ready. They are repotted in 3 gal, with Pro-Mix medium. I am interested in topping or fimming them. When should this be done? Can I wait and do it later or is now the time?
I have applied a weak mixture of FloraBlend, and mixed a little Age Old Kelp in the water. These supplements are supposed to be good through the whole life cycle of the plant. No other nutes as of yet.
Now, when to start veg? When can I take a cutting or two and attempt to clone?

Hey thanks for looking, but as a total new grower, if you could elaborate a bit that would be great. There are two different plants there. The alaskan is shorter at about 5" and the NYD is about 9" tall and perhaps a bit spindly.

I would wait a while yet before topping of fimming them.

agreed!
let them root and grow a few more days or another week after that recent repotting.
feed some rooting stimu along with a bit more N for the diesel.
you will even get more clones to cut later on if they are allowed to grow a bit longer ;)

Update

I have been LST'ing on these two plants and they seem to be doing well. The main stem is really looking strong and healthy. And new growth is really coming in. These after pics are from about 48 hrs ago.

looking good!
i would wait a while before cloning. i like to wait till i have tertiary growth on the plant before i clone. this ensures the plant is growing strong, and has growth rdy to replace what you cut. thats just me, you can clone anytime you have enough material to work with, but waiting does decrease the time needed to clone again.
also you might wanna start feeding them some more N and Mg, the diesel could use more for sure
good luck

Mg? as in a Cal/Mag product? Thanks for the advice. I have started on the high nitrogen feeding schedule now. Following the FoxFarm soil feed schedule found here, but going a little lighter than the recommendations. My tap water tests out at .6 EC. Terrible. I tested a bottle of drinking water to make sure my meter was on. It tested 0. I have got to start getting my water from the local pet store, they have RO. That should make my nute measurements much more spot on.

yea a cal/mag product will help. you can also use epsom salt (MgSO4) as well if you are on a tight budget. Mg and N are the two most used nutes for the plant. sry to hear about your water, thats really hard. if your planning on doing this long term you might want to invest in your own RO filter. they are not that expensive now a days, and you will come to see that lugging 3/5gal jugs of water gets old really fast lol.
good luck keep us posted

Update Day 12 Veg/LST

Update Day 12 Veg/LST

Ok HempAlchemist, I have followed your advice and given the Deisel a good feeding. Actualy I have started the Vegatative stage high N feedings. They are looking pretty good. Take a look and tell me what you think. I have also been using Einstien oil with a little ProTekt. FoxFarm nutrient trio liquid, Age Old Kelp, and FloraBlend.

looks like the feeding perked them up! keep an eye on the leaf tips, if they start to burn back off on the feeding. otherwise keep doing what your doing

Ok, thanks. I'll keep going along then. They are really growing now. I think I may repot them in a couple of nice big 10gal pots I've got. I just hope transplanting them isn't to difficult. They have been in the pots now for over 3 weeks so should have a nice big rootball in there. Using ProMix orange stripe medium.

On the question of repotting them, they have been in the 3 gal containers for approx 3 weeks, I would like to repot them so I can really go to town on the LST'ing. Would it be ok to transplant them now into the larger pots? Any advice? I have been looking for a guide I saw online, where you put the smaller pot in the larger and pack your medium around it, making a perfect size hole for the plant. But I don't think my roots are at the edge of the pot yet.

Well I did want to put them in bigger pots, and boy did I. 10 gal !!!. Made for an easy transplant. I untied them both and put them in the bigger pots. Some say water and some say don't. I did, with a little KLN/ProTekt/FlorBlend. Will take some pics when lights on at 12:01am. Probably will let them run a couple of days and then tie 'er down again. This ProMix is some very fluffy stuff.

grats on a good transplant
be on the lookout for shock, but if you didnt have any problems then the plants shouldnt as well.

No signs of shock or stress which suprised me. But I'm not complaining. They are looking great in the new 10 gallon pots. Lots of room to grow sideways now. I've got them tied down all over the place now and they are responding very well so far. I am going to be using alot more water/nutes. This ProMix really takes in the liquid. I will get more pics up soon. Busy busy busy, ya know?
