I started watching the Phylos presentation, couldn't get passed the first ten minutes according to that smug piece of--------
all cannabis today sucks. I am only happy I did not send material into those blood suckers.

Yes. Watch the last 5 minutes it will make you puke but it's informative, talking about GMO cannabis for medical uses. The plan is to genetically modify cannabis (or maybe another plant??) to produce huge amounts of minor cannabinoids. So the pharma industry can turn it into medicine. Since cannabis users and growers won't accept GMO cannabis the sick people will have to use it. There's already strains out there with high levels of minor cannabinoids, to me it's crazy. But it's a crazy world.

I watched Jodrey's take on it on YouTube, he made a few decent points but his overall take on it is horrible. He believes the only recourse for cannabis growers and breeders is to sell the rights to their genetics and crops to the huge corporations. Then work for them 'just like every other crop in America is grown'. I'm sick, SO SICK of hearing that every farmer in America is working for a huge corporation. I shop at my local farmer's market. Most of the produce there, at least when it's in season, come from local people who own their land, plant their own apple trees, potatoes, lettuce, garlic. They don't have contracts with Del Monte or whoever the fuck.

Shipping, handling, and storing are controlled by big business to a huge extent but that's something else. Most of the tasty vegetables, meat, and dairy I can buy at my local co-ops and Farmer's Markets doesn't come from big Agribusiness, when it's in season. I know a fair amount of it gets shipped in during the winter. I think these people are seeing huge dollar signs and it's making them crazy. Phylos guy thinks he'll sell in 5 years and make a billion dollars. I'll be surprised if they offer him 10 million. Still a lot of money but all the stuff he's doing anyone else can do.

I'm SICK OF HEARING HOW MUCH BETTER CANNABIS WILL BE. I get wasted every time I smoke. I can get any sort of delicious cannabis products from 10%-100% THC right now within 5 minutes from where I sit typing this. Less if I reach for my pipe. How will selling out to big Agro enhance the experience?

There are problems with our cannabis. Late flowering, mold prone genetics. This has nothing to do with what they're concerned with, increasing potency and terpenes. It's inevitable that big business gets involved in cannabis and makes their own brand. It's disappointing that so many breeders and growers want a piece of it thinking they'll get rich. They'll get a one time check then regret it, screwing themselves and everyone else over.

There are things that can be done to fight this. Keeping prices stable at a level people can make a living. A multi-state growers organization built up to make sure small and medium level growers and breeders can make a living. It wouldn't take much political power to hold the bastards at bay. I can't imagine building such a thing, growers are an independent and quarrelsome lot. Something like this could be a big wake-up call..

There was for a long time, in the truck-farming and vegetable markets, an Independent Growers Association - they had their own stores and their own distribution systems. So it can be done, the question is, how do we do it?

By starting as a political action initiative, it seems to me, and push for policies that will serve us and our interests while we figure out a structure we can have some confidence in.

That’s the shit they teach you in business school...these days everyone knows at least a couple of MBAs. In the case of IGA, they couldn’t compete with the bigger chains. Haven’t seen an IGA in...decades

Brother all i can say is do not worry they will not steal our seedlines away from us credit due is where credit is deserved its humanities plant what are they going to do they can only patent their mutation not the entire genome. They're already getting yeast to produce thc think that is already patented. They're going to produce more cannabinoids than us, that is the way it is going to be. Doesn't mean we cannot grow as much as we want. The issue is Monsanto has shown a company will really go all the way in controlling a majority of a genome through patents claiming ownership of their mutation or modification. you know like the lowest common denominator owning the totality of the equation? Corporations are individual citizens hahahaha.. well I'm laughing to the bank I mean that concept just seems rather homozygous. I just want to grow fields of cannabis. Its beautiful. Cant say we're different.
