Hi, I'm pretty new to organics and growing in general so I figured I'd come here to IC Mag for some knowledge.

I'm amending some Promix HP to be used with Gaia Green 4-4-4 and later, 2-8-4. In a week or so I'll transplant a few plants into 1 gallon pots so I'm here looking for any advice, tips, tricks, critiques.

So far my recipe for a 2.8cu bag of Promix HP

roughly 15 gal Promix HP
roughly 3 gal EWC
2.75 Cups Dolomite Lime
1.5 Cups Insect Frass

I want to cook this for at least a week before I transplant my seedlings into them. One question I had was: what ph water do you recommend I spray down the medium with before it cooks?

Also, are there any major things I am missing?

Right now the seedlings are in nursery pots with promix hp right out of the bag with a little bit of ewc and dyno myco. I watered them today with the same regimen as 3 days ago: 6.2 ph water (soft), and 500 ppm all together of protekt, calmag, clonex and recharge.

Here are a few pics so far, seeds were planted 6/30:

I put a few foam squares under the little one in the middle

I'm hitting these mugs with about 400 ppfd of LED in a 2 x 4 veg tent. The plan is to transplant to 5 gal after about 4 weeks in the 1 gal. Then, flip to flower a week or so after that in the 4 x 4 with half 4-4-4 and half 2-8-4 the rest of the way out.

Thanks for checking out this thread, I'm determined to grow something worth smoking this time

Thanks for sharing friend. Don't worry about the ph while the soil is cooking. Water is extremely important in organic grows what kind are you using?

I am using NYC tap water that I let sit out for about 24 hours. I read that my tap has less than 2 grains of calcium carbonate per gallon or around 30 ppms- pretty soft! The ph comes out to around 8 so I've used ph down in the past to get it to 6.3 or so.

By the way I recognize your name from posts in other Promix threads I've been researching. Thanks for your help and willingness to spread knowledge!

Update 8/8/23: Since the original post (7/15/23), I transplanted to 1 gal pots and added 3 tbs of gaia green 4-4-4 to the amended promix (7/21/23). since then, every watering I've been giving growtekt, hydroguard, and roots riot cal mag (soft tap water), finally I've been phing the water from 6-6.5.

So far so good I guess. I started using cal mag every watering to stave off a mg deficency a couple weeks ago. I know I could foliar spray epsom salt but I figured I was low on calcium as well since I'm using highly filtered tap water. Plants have responded well so far.

I topped each plant yesterday and plan on vegging for no more than 3 more weeks or so. Looking forward to transplanting these girls into their final 5 gal pots, taking some clones and then flipping to flower.

A couple questions I had was: Is it better to take clones in veg before transplant into final pot or in the end it doesn't even matter? (Linkin Park)

I forget the other questions but if they come to me I reserved a block of space in case I remember I probably can edit this post.

I didn't LST any of these mugs but the left most one if my favorite. It's naturally bushed out and has long branches. The middle one was the runt of the litter and since the very beginning had this weird light green coloring to the fan leaves that I can't figure out what the problem is. You can't miss it, its only on the middle plant in the pics. And the plant on the right isn't growing much faster than the one in the middle and the structure of the plant is nothing to write home about but I'll do my darndest to get her to the Finnish line.

Since the last post I moved the plants into the 4 x 4 tent and transplanted into 5 gallon pots on 8/16. I added dynomyco and 1 tbs per gallon of 4-4-4 to the pots.

I'm on Day 2 since flipping to 12/12 and added a trellis net. The plants look OK but they seem to be growing slowly compared to other people's grows I've seen. They also have a lot of purple streaking in the stalks/stems and I hear that is usually mg deficiency or ph is off in the root zone. I attached a few pics of the garden, any advice is appreciated!

1st Pic of the lower portion: I think these low leaves are showing signs of stress, that doesn't make me happy.

2nd Pic of the top, these plants aren't very tall yet but the trellis net is keeping the branches down

3rd pic is the overhead shot, one good thing so far is I think the green is a nice healthy color- not too dark or too light

20230827_163032.jpg

The final pic is a close up of the purple streaking. I'm growing Chem 91 x Chem D so I doubt the coloring is related to genetics. Hopefully I can still get some good smoke out of it anyway

Update: 8/31, 6 days since flip to 12/12

I watered last night with some Neptune's Harvest Fish & Seaweed Fertilizer 2-3-1 (1tbs per gallon) I watered approx 4gal of water into 3 5gal pots. Next time when I water I will use at least 5 gallons of water between the 3 pots in order to get some run off. Anyway, the plants got huge since last night. Since uploading these pics, I'm noticing maybe they need more nitrogen, the leaves don't look as dark green as a few days ago.... What do you think? Here are some pictures:

It looks like your pH has dropped into a low range at some point. You have leaves that are bronzing.

Update: 9/10 (16 days since flip)

A lot has changed since the last update. Found out the mug in the back left with gonads the size of Gibraltar! It must've been 9/1 when I noticed the balls goin out the wazoo I said to myself, "Holy smokes I need to cull this mug before he jizzes on everything". Anyway, got rid of it and now there are 2 plants in 5 gal pots in a 4' x 4' x 8'

I have good news in regards to the red/purple streakings in the stalks. Since the last post I have been watering with roots riot calmag (0-0-0) and recharge,@ ph 6.3. Most recent runoff ppms were 1450 and 6.5 ph

I'm on a schedule where I water ever 3 days. The next time I water will be 30 days since last top dressing if Gaia Green. My plan is to use the bloom formula only and supplement N with earthworm castings and neptunes harvest fish & seaweed in a pinch

Its officially day 16 since flip, the girls are growing and they have what they need. This is my first time running anything out of the chem family. Thanks to Lucky Dog, Top Dawg, Humboldt CSI and the rest.

Update 9/13

It is now 19 days since flip to 12/12. When I watered yesterday I top dressed with 1 tablespoon per gal of gaia green power bloom 2-8-4 and about 2 cups of earthworm castings per 5 gal pot. I amended my water with Roots Organic calmag (0-0-0) and real grower's recharge. One thing to note: when I watered it took way longer because the EWC must have mucked up the works. Next time I will only add about 1 cup of EWC to prevent the compacting of soil. Not to worry too much, gravity took it's course and everything seems to be OK. From the pictures, I noticed what may be a nitrogen deficiency on the rise. I took a few pics before the lights came on today to maybe give a better idea on what color the leaves look like. Anyway, my plan was to do a final defoliation type deal on Friday before I water. This is final transition to bloom phase has always given me the business. All tips, advice, critiques, suggestions encouraged. Thanks for stopping by. Now, on to the pictures:

Update: 9/22 (28 days since flip to 12/12)

I am noticing some lime green coloring, some rust and oncoming purplish coloring atop the canopy, specifically. I'm thinking it could be a phosphorous or potassium deficiency or maybe the ph is off in the root zone. The buds are definitely growing pretty fast and within the last couple of days I've started to observe trichome development.

Yesterday I watered in about 200 ppm of calmag (without nitrogen) and 400 ppm of neptunes harvest fish and seaweed (2-3-1). My watering in ppm was about 600 and my runoff ppm is around 2000. My watering in ph this time was about 5.7 and my runoff ph was around 6.7. Next time I will water at 5.7 ph again and maybe the runoff ph will be lower than 6.7.

One thing I noticed is the plants look a way healthier green color when the lights are off and I take pictures with the flash on but this is around the time I always run into trouble. Any advice appreciated as always.

Now on to the pics:

Update 9/28 (34 days since flip to 12/12)

Hello, it's me again.

Normally I post once a week or so until the later weeks when there are some new cool developments and such. I'll say I finally think I know what dang
deficiency was- Potassium. My fan leaves started showing red blotches-especially on the plan on the right

9/27- I watered the plants with 200ppm of calmag and 150 ppm of 0-10-10..., watered in at 5.8- runoff ph showed 6.7, runoff ppm 1300....

the beat goes on!

Looking lovely! Maybe a touch more CalMag? I water with it every time with LED, 3-5ml/gallon (don't feel like converting to PPM lol sorry)

Update: Day 49 since flip to 12/12

The leaves look like shit but the buds have trichomes at least. I think I have some sort of phosphorous deficiency going on. I quit trying to use gaia green in the middle of the grow. It's not working out for me in these 5 gallon pots so I'm back to fast acting synthetic nutes (Maxibloom, liquid kool bloom, powder kool bloom). I know, I know "all that pk bloom booster crap is a waste of money!" but I already spent money on the pk boosters so I'm going to use it. Any advice for a salt boy? I water in at 5.7 and runoff is 6.2. I water in 900 ppm last time and the runoff was 1200. I think this salt boy is backed up with salinity.... Next time I will water with only mag sulfur at ph 5.7 unless anyone has some other advice.

Thanks for popping in, now on to the pictures. Oh yeah, I want to harvest between day 60 and 65.... I hope these things hurry the heck up before my leaves die and causes bud rot. I think that's what happened to my first couple crops, I'm new to growing and not very good so far. Also I will try to get better at taking pictures, they aren't good at all I'm sorry.

I just wanna get these mugs to the finish line. Hopefully my lack of growing skill will only effect the yield but it won't effect the potency.... I guess only time will tell.....

*Cue ominous music

Buds are still looking good! Looks like a good yield too.

What are your temps? I've found LEDs need pretty high temps for the plants to be able to handle them at 100% but often don't raise the temp high enough on their own. Also sometimes even if the lights are too close you won't see traditional signs, you will just eventually get weird deficiencies. If my lights are too close, I get weird incurable nutrient issues. I've been doing LED exclusively for years and am still figuring it out with each new set of genetics.

The pH sounds a little low, but I don't know hydro.

Thanks Redrum92,

Most of this grow my temps have been in the mid 80s when the lights are on. Now with the cooler weather outside its about 80 in the tent. I'm giving about 1000 ppfd in the highest part of the canopy in the center of the tent. The canopy over by the wall is getting around 600 ppfd. Maybe next grow I'll try 800 ppfd in the middle as to not stress out the plants.

About sums up my experiences. Becomes worse in flowering. Supplementing a HPS or MH 50/50 helps a lot, gotta keep the LED’s way high up. Cal/Mag & Epsom salts help to an extent.

Big Bad Wolf 2.0 (Chem '91 x Chem D)

Day 60 since flip to 12/12, looks like 75-80 day min.... white pistils out the wazoo... I was going Gaia green top dressing until week 4, 5 flower when things went haywire a bit. I switched into maxi bloom and think I staved off any major damages.... My weak point in this whole process is the drying phase.... so far it smells good and stronger every single day... Update: 74 days since flip to 12/12

I've been alternating waterings with kool bloom powder and mag sulfur. I water once every 3 days. Runoff ph 6.2 and about 750 ppm. My target harvest date is 11/18 (85 days after flip) but I'll keep an eye on the trichomes and pistils to see how it goes. I don't see many if any cloudy trichomes at all yet. I took several pics this week up close with different camera settings on different buds. I'm not much of a photographer but I'm sure a tripod would help.

Girls lookin good!

The weird colouring you mentioned on the plant early on is called variegation and it s a common mutation in those lines, especially chem d in the chem family carries it.

Regarding the hermie plant, since you have few plants you can try and pick them early on,it's a common issue with fem seeds, they can pop a few balls early on flowering and if removed they might never be seen again, had this happen to me numerous times.Of course in a crowded room, I wouldn't recommend.

Plants are looking good,to me it doesn't seem you did something wrong.I've read chem 91 can go 11-12 weeks and that's from clone,so 12 weeks from seed in the first run isn't that far off.

Good luck with finishing ,I'm sure you 'll enjoy!
