EDIT(08-09-08): Here's a link to my grow journal for more information this cabinet. It is now up and running beautifully.

I'm gonna be building an NGB style cab and making a comprehensive article on it. I'm giving this article to OSOGP for everyone to see. I'll post up pics and stuff along the way to tease you guys! :asskick: :muahaha:

Here's pictures from the design phase, more in a couple hours cause i have class:

Questions and comments appreciated...

More Pictures! First one is 8 2" vent holes going into a false bottom.

This one shows 5 2" vent holes going into the mother chamber and you can barely see 1 hole in the flower chamber. There is actually 3 2" holes in the flower chamber, you'll see them in later pictures.

Not as many people watching as i expected... :badday:

Ok next up is my carbon filter. I built this a year ago or so from the DIY tutorials online:

And heres the filter in the cabinet:

And Heres how the 150w Cooltube will look. (i'm debating whether to add ducting to this model, but in the built cab i will have a 180 degree turn in dryer duct between the filter and cool tube and then some ducting running into the 4" hole in the divider. My blower will be mounted in the utility room).

Now that i've posted the pictures i have a question. I'm planning to use 1/2" CDX plywood from the depot, but i was wondering what everyone else uses? I was considering OSB for the cost, but i'm not sure how it would paint and hold up.

Ok i'm not sure how i should vent out the back...anyone have any ideas?
heres the back of the cab:

And heres it is with the back panel removed. You can see the blower and what way it's pointed, i'm gonna have it go straight out, but i'm not sure if i should just leave it like that, or make something on it more stealth like.

I was actually contemplating the same idea you have with the cool tube and the carbon filter. I am making an NGB cab as we speak....now that I am putting it together doesn't look like it will quite fit in the flowering chamber if you are using close to the original design...I made my utility and veg space 1" wider to fit my 265cfm squirrel cage fan in there. what size blower you using?

I have a 265 also. I'm doing all this design to spec. I've modeled my carbon filter (which i built a year ago and works great), the cooltube, and blower all to size. All this modeling is being done in solidworks (it's an engineering program). I'm doing all this right now so i can make sure everything will fit perfectly.

Do you have a thread for your build?

Is this real or virtual?

Right now this is virtual. I'm creating a computer model of the entire cabinet with everything inside and put together so i know that everything will fit perfectly. I'm also doing this so i know the exact size to cut wood etc.

I'll probably start the building of the cabinet the first weekend of February.

Ok i solved my venting problem. I'm going to put a 3" false back on it and somehow come up with a muffler to fit in this area. Heres some pictures:

Any comments or suggestions?

Ok here is the large shelf with a slider bracket installed:

And this is the brackets installed on the bottom sheet of plywood:

Heres the bottom installed in the cabinet:

Heres the shelf's in their "in" position:

This is with the shelfs extended:

Finally the ducting layout from the top view with the top sheet of plywood removed:

Any Questions? I'm sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes cause i'm high as hell right now.

This probably describes my condition best...1st :bongsmi: and then :jawdrop:

Great job on the 3D modeling. It really helps with visualization. are you using SketchUp?

Well i was going to use sketch up, but i found it wasn't detailed enough for what i wanted to do. I'm sure you could do pretty much the same thing with sketch up, but i'm not to familiar with the program so i used Solidworks. It's an engineering program that i have access to through my school.

The cab looks great! One question though. How do you exaust the mother room. I don't see one going into the utility room or flower room. Also if it does exaust through the flower room how do you plan on lightproofing it? I really like how you hide and light proof your intake.

very nice design, like it a lot. one suggestion I have is to fit another 150w in there if possible, it'd be well worth it in my opinion. The light and ballast would only be an extra $20 from e-conolight, an extra cooltube is $10 at most, and not sure how much it is for you, but for me it's only $7.50/month to run a 150w bulb on 12/12. I think the increase in yield and bud density from the extra light is well worth the $50 or so it would initially cost.

Yeah i just got to the venting between the mother room and flower room. I've been thinking about the light proofing for a while so that's why i hadn't added it yet. I was thinking of PVC because that's what most use but the elbows for 2" are pretty expensive and it's still a little difficult to light proof it so i came up with a light box, i'm not sure if it will work well though. Check my next post and you will see the pictures.

Yeah i know 150 would fit easily, but I'm in an apartment and i want to keep my bills pretty low. I think in the future i might go with either another 150 or a 250. I also i have a 400 watt that i'm not using that i'm sure i could fit in pretty easily without cooling issues, but that's in the future. For now it's the 150watt. :rasta:

Ok time for more pictures! It's getting close to building time (this weekend!) and i'm trying to finish up the design and make sure everything is up to spec.

The first picture is the fluoro's you can't see all of them (there are 3), but i have a bathroom vanity fixture that i'm using right now and i think it will work in this cabinet fairly well. I know mounting vertical isn't best, but maybe i will make a bracket to hang them horizontal in the future. I might make a reflector also (half circle kinda).

Second picture is my light trap. This is the view from the flower chamber, i was gonna go with PVC, but it's a little expensive, takes up more room and is harder to get completely light proof.

Third picture is the light trap view from the mother chamber (a light trap identical to the one in the flower chamber will be mounted here also.) Inside the little boxes will be painted black.

Now i have a question for any NGB growers. Do you think the duct from the divider to the blower is necessary? I seem to remember seeing people not putting any duct there so that the fan sucks heat from the electronics also.

That's it for now... :joint:

hum pretty interesting :p Kinda like your just building it already, then tweaking it... Its kinda like my favorite saying :p

"Measure twice, Cut once" :p

Ill be sure to keep stopping by here and there, cant wait to see you actually start the build :p
