What's new

phases of the moon and its functions

The first two phases (New and Waxing) are when the energy is rising up from beneath the surface, slowing riding the gravitational lunar tides - flower growth/trichome production. The last two (Post Full Moon Waning and Last Quarter Moon) is the opposite - slowing riding the gravity waves down below the surface focusing on root growth.

does anybody use the phases of the moon to increase the % of germination or increase the quality of buds in the harvest? hear that: the full moon is good to harvest because the plant is full of nectar and the terpenes and others molecules conserve better. to germination i read the new moon is better ... what's your experience and opnion?

Hi hailand3r,

It's a fact that Moon has a big effect in our planet and in living beings.
All the ancestral sedentary cultures have developed their agriculture in harmony with the Moon and celestial bodies,
so despite western modern farming doesn't pay much attention to these things many new organic farmers are using again these older techniques and concepts.

I'm far to be an expert in biodynamics, but if i'm not wrong biodynamic agriculture combines both ascending/descending and waxing/waning moon phases along with the zodiac signs, sun position and planets to take decisions.
There's tons of literature and books about it.

We may feel we are separate individuals/entities, but every single atom and living being is connected with the rest of the existence and therefore every single change affects the rest of the Creation.

I agree 100% with you sir.

Awesome thread.

We're all just a part of nature. Working with the natural flow just makes more sense to me. It's like swimming in a river. Sure, you can swim across or even upstream and make progress but it's lots more efficient going downstream.

Germinate your seeds at the new moon. You will be using the moons invisible gravitational forces to coax the seedling to life with the flow of "The FORCE", instead of against it.

Go with the flow of the moons' energy, you will find your plants happier and yourself a happier gardener.

It works. It really works.

What happened to the scientific method? 14 seeds isn't a large enough sample size.

neither is a few plants growing better one year vs another.. there's so many factors you are not taking into account.

moon has a big influence over the world and of course it works but also is important understand you can't switch off his power is always there, so if you think about a perpetual indoor room doesn't really matter and is practically impossible to do if you do many harvest in a year. same time is really important in my opinion for outdoors grows....moon phases helped human farmer from ancient time . personally i try to follow right moon phases every time is possible and its a plus on a weed organically growed in small grow rooms for personal use

I found my mood and the mood of everyone who comes near my garden has a bigger effect than the moon.
But if you want to pay attention to the celestial bodies, look at them as a whole loving body; dont concentrate too much on one limb of a larger body.
Ra Ma Da Sa.

:yeahthats

This touches on BIODYNAMIC gardening.
It seems like a cult following at a glance but when you take a deeper look it celebrates the universal connections of the heavenly bodies.

Planting only by the moon phases is a good start but it ignores the influence of the other bodies in our solar system. Fire, Wind, Water, Earth signs all influence the moon phases for optimal planting, harvesting & other garden related chores.

An excellent resource for timimg of all this & to help plan gardening events, is the Maria Thun Biodynamics calendar.

If planting seeds during a certain phase of the moon has an effect on the plant, no one has yet been able to measure it.

People can preach anything, lots of things sound deep and interesting to the point to make one a believer.

Yet I'm still expecting a far more serious approach to the matter, serious research, controlled data and solid conclusions. Anything less than that is worthless to me and to anyone who chooses not to believe(without proof).
Vague stories and poor experiments only help to perpetuate the belief system which is a conglomerate of various beliefs, including astrology and numerology while excluding the physical(measurable) world.

Or to put it in more recent terms, I think it's all a matter of "alternative facts" :)

*I want to clarify I spent few vague years of research, conversations with farmers, data searching and interpreting... and I found zero evidence to sustain any claim regarding the beneficial effects of any celestial body on any plant(well, except the Sun, of course). I wanted to find a positive correlation of any kind, I probably wanted to believe. But the facts left me dry and clean, so I can not accept any "opinion based truth", no matter how cool it sounds.
Maybe also because I'm an astronomer for 20 years.

Cheers to everyone, the moon looked awesome this morning btw ;)

follows the farmers almanac. Yes you will notice differences in planting and pulling around new and full moons, also depending on weather its waxing or waning. Lots of cool patterns you can find. Overall you can't notice dramatic differences, but i sure notice how much faster things root or finish faster if planted or flowered during certain moon phases. It can also help when to spray for pests and defoliate too. The plant is made up of water too and is affected just as humans are.

Beware of "Biodynamics". The name sounds great but is somewhat misleading.

While it does take into account the lunar calendar, living soils and most good parts of organic farming practices, it also contains a lot of nonsense which some research will reveal.

Rudolf Steiner was not a farmer and his "observations" were gathered through "clairvoyance." He also had some pretty racist views which you should also research.

For some reliable information I would suggest reading about Masanobu Fukuoka and Sepp Holzer, two people who dedicated their whole lives to observing nature and helping others grow food and improve soil.

A sound viewpoint. Thankyou for sharing!

time to pay attention to your outdoor grows ,

if you have , you may noticed that the bulk of your outdoor plants are ready round the full in flower season , generally theres two main harvests of plants during outdoor grow both being round the full , yes there is some in-between the cycle i,m talking majority or bulk of plants ...

ever noticed how all of a sudden your flat out and everything ready at once ? well take notice of the moon and it will be round the full .

you,d be silly wouldn't you if you thought plants don,t interact with nature / universe
