Pets that smoke?

people try to humanize their pets too much.
when my dog hears my keys jingling, she knows it means im about to leave and she starts prancing and growling for attention because she wants to go too.
ive smoked with my brother and everytime we sat on the couch and started smoking, our dog came over to us, tail wagging and ears pricked up, very attentive to us trying to get our attention. my brother said, she knows what we're doing.
i said she probably just smells the weed and knows that everytime it smells like weed, we will pet her more and let her up on the couch so we can love on her. which is true. not that i neglect my animals when im sober, but ive been really stoned before and laid down on the carpet and wrapped my arms around my dog giving her a belly rub.
but we know she doesnt want the weed. she wants affection.
it bothers me that people want their pets to be stoners just because they smoke, or think that since they are such potheads they must have raised a pothead animal. why? i guess cause they think its funny or cute...

greyskull, i dont know anything about pain management in animals, and obviously we love our pets and would do anything to ease their suffering, but i think blowing smoke into an animals face is wrong.
and yes, i do think people that blow smoke into their dogs faces are idiots, because it is clearly unhealthy and if you simply want to administer some thc to the dog.... ripping a bowl and blowing it in an animals face seems like the worst possible way to do it
and this is more a general curiosity, but do any of you know how weed affects dogs? ive never seen a stoned dog, but if you were to feed your dog something healthy and laced with thc, and it seemed to alleviate pain and not create any concerning abnormal behaviors, i guess that might be okay. if you were able to play catch/fetch with your dog after giving it cannabis, i dont think thats an issue, but how can you be certain that the same things happen to your brain happen to the dog?

well i know lots of people do it everyday to themselves...
its not like im ripping cigarettes (which i dont smoke) - known cancer sticks.
my dog actually prefers the volcano.
how do i know? lots of observation.
you just have to be there i guess
i only 'know' what i have observed.
i know what comfort looks like.
i know what pain and discomfort looks like.
and its funny...
what happens to people when the ingest pot, happens to the dog too.... mellows out. relaxes. and is able to to be free of the thoughts of pain it looks like to me.
im not. and im sure his brain fires a little differently

im pretty simple... i read and react.

if it looks sad, its sad.
The only thing the vet was worried about with my dog was "dog-eating cannabis is a no-no" from seeing the effect on little lap dogs eating their owners' stash and being zonked out for a long while and the owners freaking out over it. Hell, that is the easiest diagnosis to make... let 'em sleep it off and the pooch will be fine

One of my dogs ate a couple oil brownies and I thought she was having a stroke. She knocked over the garbage and ate the brownies and a couple other food items. She kept staggering like the room was spinning, then she puked about 20 min later, then slept it off, lol.
Both my dogs like to sleep under my outdoor ladies when I am tending the garden and it is warm out. I love that.

When I see cats eating plants, I always assume its because its the only plant they ever have access to.
obviously you guys love your dogs just as much as i love mine, i just have a serious issue with people trying to get their dogs high for their own entertainment
if you somehow get your dog high and your dog reacts positively and you do it in a way that isnt unhealthy then i guess i have no dog in this fight... no pun intended
and btw... humans smoking weed is not the same as a dog inhaling smoke...
i know what smoke does to me, i know the effects inside and out, my dog poops outside and barks at black people. shes dumb. it's my responsibility to protect and care for her.

My personal experience is that some animals like it and some don't. When I was a teenager I spent a summer living in the attic of my grandmothers house while she was in Mexico. We had an old cat named Tom, he was a stray we started feeding and he stuck around. He was not a people cat, very independent and didn't like to hang out around people very much. At night when I would puff a bowl he would somehow get up on the garage roof and come in the open attic window. He would come over to where I was laying on the floor and lay down facing me so I could give him hits. He obviously enjoyed it, he never came to hang out in the attic with me unless I was smoking.
My other anecdotal evidence is from two dogs who belonged to a member here named Smunk, sadly they are no longer with us. Smunk had two beautiful purebred dogs of the same type and one liked to get high and other did not like it. Smunk had a room in his house where he worked and the dogs would hang out with him. It was also the smoking room and one dog would always want out and the other would be right up in the face of whoever had the bong. Different strokes for different folks.
I don't think anyone should force a pet to get high but if they like it who the fuck are we to deny them?

I feel that this is the most likely reality. Some humans like to get high and some hate it. Most likely the dogs/cats who act like they like being around weed smoke actually find something pleasing about it (aside from their owners more positive vibrations they detect, though I'm sure that plays apart as well), and the one's who run away don't like it.
Animals are known to seek out substances that alter their consciousness/attitude, so it's not just we humans who enjoy it. A few years ago I read a great book on the subject, just went looking for it...think this is the one, although it was published in 2005 and my memory tells me that I read the book way before that. Maybe its a re-publishing?

A long time ago at a friend of a friends we all went on a beer run. We got back to find his Labrador had ate most of a half oz of Mexican. It had killed A mother cat with 8 brand new kittens. It sorta looked like the dog stomped them to death with his front paws. I know, terrible right. I mean, a half a lid of Mexican Sativa wasted. And a black lab, wasted. Geez, and the carpet stains! Unfortunatley the dog started using harder and harder drugs and was last seen sitting along the cul de sac eating a poodle's face off.
on a side note, some cockatiels enjoy beer, some do not.

wow - never expected to return to heated debate - tho i can understand that the act of intentionally getting an animal high against it's will (whether it was aware of this or had been effectively trained to like it) is gonna be offensive to some, i think my original post falls into a different realm:
the dog in question will also chase raindrops, the spray of sparks off an anglegrinder, cigarette smoke, steam from the iron and when someone takes a shower it barges in and goes AAAAHRGRGEHRGHRGRG at the water/steam head on.
she has never to our knowledge had anyone blow smoke in her face and is so busy jumping a few feet in the air snapping her beak at the haze near the ceiling that i very much doubt she inhales enough smoke to get high. she clearly has fun chasing smoke even if she never gets enough to affect her to much of a degree as far as intoxication goes.
i just find it an amusing quirk that i thought would be fun to share.
