pest control safe for clones

what pest control is safe for use in a clone dome? I think I have fungus gnat larva attacking my little baby girls in my clone dome(see "a slug?!?!?!?!" for a picture of the little bastards). Currently I just have Safer's 3 in 1 that I use for pest control, but I am thinking about getting some SM90 (which sounds pretty safe to me) and a hot shot pest control strip or 2(but I'm not sure how well it would work since the dome prolly wouldn't let much of it in and the dome is too small and moist to put one inside I think). But are there any good pest control wepons that are safe to use on clones, some of which have their roots but aren't quite ready to come out and others that don't have their roots?

I saw the critter you are talking about before. http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=34629 They are big enough to pick off by hand. Fungus gnat larvae are really small. The adults are only 1/8" long. You would probably do more harm to the plants than good with an all out assault on a problem that really just seems minor. A fungicide spray maybe once would be the best thing to be doing while the clones are exposed to so much constant humidity.

i dont use a dome for my clones. i do have some gnats flying around i just use some sticky fly traps they work pretty good. use a bubbler for clones its much easier than cubes. my recent batch of clones are 4 days old and alread have roots. ill never go back to cubes and domes..lol
dont spray anything on them right now lets them root first. just check everyday for bugs that you can remove.

A fungicide spray? That'll kill the little buggers? I thought I would need an insecticide to kill them. ya think the safer 3 in 1 will work on them and not do a lot of damage to the babies?

I went through and examened each clone as I moved them into a new tray, and picked off 3 or 4 of them from the clones, then after I moved them over I saw about 8 of them in the tray so I had fun squishing them to death. :D I haven't sprayed anything on them yet, but like you were saying I''m not thinking a full blown assult, but atleast a one time application would probly handle the situation.

420- I haven't really looked into bubbler's, are they expensive to set up? I know I have seen mist chambers and auto cloners but those are waaaaaaayy outta my price range at the moment.

Bubble cloners are pretty cheap...mine ran about $25 to build and will do 35 cuts. Haven't used a dome since bubble cloning either...which greatly lowers the risk of fungal infections from the super high humidity in the domes.

I'm gonna have to look that up then. do they work well with a soil system or are they more for hydro? any good designs I should look for?

They'll be fine for either...here's a pic of the guts of mine, but there's a million ways to build em. Some folks just have holes in the lid and let the leaves hold the clones up, some use pool noodle and others use the neoprene sleeves. I like RW, so I did netpots...

Just fill it to right below the cuttings and let the bubbles do the work.

so the basic jist is a tub filled with a nutrient solution my olivia's clonin solution would prolly work for that, a lid with holes for the stems to hang through or netpots, and an airstone to make the bubbles? how deep does it have to be? Does the tip of the clone sit submerged? And they don't wilt due to lack of humidity? Do you use a rooting gel with this setup or no?

i got a sterile plastic shoe box cut out 1 1/4 inch circle on the lid 2.00
cut out some circles from a sleeping pad i got at wallmart to fit
perfect into the holes i poke out a hole in the middle and slice 5.00
got a fish pump 6.00
some hose .99
and 1 12in air bubble hose for fish 4.00
18.00
i use olivas in the water and mist with water when needed. try to keep temps between 75 and 85 for best results. you can get a heating pad used for snakes ect for 6 to 8 bucks to do the trick depending on your location. fuck paying 100s for those other machines that do the same thing. i only cut out 15 sites because i dont have space for more. good luck dude and this is the way to go thanks to sand!! lol

it's a tub filled with tap water, you can add nutrients into the water at small doses to correct deficiencies but this shouldn't be necessary until the roots show.

the shallower the better, deeper water requires a stronger air pump. i use about 4" of water.

the tips don't have to be submerged, preferrably kept just above the water level. the bubbles caused by the air stones will keep everything wet inside there. don't underestimate this step, you need LOTS of bubbles to have a healthy trouble-free setup.

yes you can use rooting gel, it isn't necessary but it definitely helps. the problem with the gel is that the excess washes down into the water and makes it soapy, so try to wipe away excess globs :D. soapy water = surface holds tension and won't allow the splashing action you need. not a good idea to mix directly in the water for this reason.

put your face down by the water, you'll be able to feel all the bubbles hitting you, even 6" above the water......

i pulled these out today, about 12 days from cut.......

about the pests.....i spray seedlings/clones with neem and they don't mind it :D

Yep.

Just this few "corrections":

- You don't want the upper part of the plant with great humidity, so wrap some toilette paper around mid of the stem to support the plants and to retain humidity below. If u don't do that (or similar) there will be much moisture in the upper part.

- The container must be REALLY REALLY light proof, or it will inhibit root growth and most certainly there will grow algae. Wrap it aluminium foil several types and them put it in a plastic bag or something similar.

I don't follow this part, I'm guessing I'll wrap the bottom of it with something to block out the light, I guessed that there might be an algee issue with it getting light, but I didn't know that the light inhibits root growth.

I'll make those mods when I get home, thanks

What size air pump are your running on that? Might wanna increase the amount of bubbles in there...or at least put the cuts right over that stone. The light green bubble curtains do a great job for creating the tiny air bubbles that highly oxygenate the water as they pass through it...

not sure what size pump it is, I stole it from my turtle tank. I was expecting a much more bubbly effect. What size pump do you reccomend? And should I have gotten a different air stone? I just grabbed one off the shelf, didn't think they were that different.

WM has a 20-60 gallon dual outlet pump for $10 that works great...I'd get one of those and another stone or bubble curtain. You can't have too many bubbles IMO...
