I'd go closer to 3X4. Lamps throw no light forward or aft, only to the sides. Thus the footprint is not square. When I turned my lamp perpendicular to the length of the grow i was able to lower the lamp while increasing footprint at the same time. The illo is exaggerated but, makes the point.

Thank you freezerboy...that is very helpful information,,,i gotta turn my bulb 90 degrees..im missing out on lumen coverage right now...

you dont wanna tent for the light mover, theres no way of supportin that rail in a tent as far as I know. Screw tents anyways, what a waste of money. The only exception to that would be when you have a very small studio aprtment or 2 room shack of a house. Instead, do what I do and get some 2x4's and panda plastic and build your own. So much better. Thats how I did my first light rail run, I built a tent except I left one side open and shut the door to the room every night to keep light out. Worked like a charm. Plus you can make it bigger or smaller as your needs change. You can also divide it easily. Tents are NOT versatile at all.

So if you have a spare room or spare space then build an enclosure, you will save a ton of money. Just do the math and decide what size 2x4's you need and go to your local home depot or lumber yard and they will cut them for you sometimes for free or for a few bux. I have a 10 inch table saw I use and love it. I use drywall screws so I can take it apart and move it when I want. My 7x3 enclosure I built cost me maybe 40 bux with the 2x4's, screws and panda plastic. I already had a 100 foot roll anyways that had more then half of it left. You can also line the floor with panda plastic, thats what I always do also. Get the thicker stuff, its worth the extra money trust me. Use a staple gun to fasten it all together.

And yes I like the idea of two 3x3 trays or just one 6x3 which are available from botanicare for 130 bux, they make the best trays hands down. They are actually measured from inside wall to inside wall so the dimensions are true unlike most other companies that measure from outside wall to outside wall makin them slightly smaller. A white 6x3 botanicare tray with the rail rockin above would be sexy. Two 3x3's will cost more money also. Whatever you prefer tho will work, either way. Lets say you get 1.5 ounces per plant x 18 and you have 27 ounces with minimal effort. I think its a no brainer. The rail is 110 bux, the tray 130 plus shipping altho I would suggest buyin locally as shippin will kill you , plus ordering a tray online is shadey stuff imo, so lets say 150 locally plus 50 bux for the enclosure to be on the safe side and your at about 300 bux for a very well put together low power, high yield setup. Once you use the rail you will never go back to anything else. Also you can veg under the rail and it works perfect. Thats what I do sometimes and I can veg a ton of plants with one 600 using a solarmax Metal Halide conversion bulb. Plants grown under a rail look healthier, require little or no rotating but do grow slightly slower but not much. You can prolly add a week to your veg time with the rail but so what. Whats 5-7 more days when youre covering so much of an area with so little light...

Yeah I agree, tents are shit. Weak and obvious. Building your own is the best way to go.

I'd go 2 3X3 trays myself as it is better to run 2 diff strains(or more). You can put multiple strains on one table but various heights and feeding can be a byatch. If you go one table you can still get away with it, but you will have to go lighter on the nutes, and you won't get the most out of hungry plants(like AK-47)..

good point but assuming he's only runnin one cut like we discussed then one tray is the way to go hands down.

600 watt

600 watt

I love the gallery pictures. If I'm thinking of taking someone's advice, I've always checked their gallery to see what they have done.

I've been gone for a while. Three grows with a 600 and you have five plus years worth of primo smoke, and I smoke a lot. I've just recently come up for air.

Can you still post pictures? If so, how? What a loss if you can't.

If you use a rail you can have a bigger cabinet. More yield.

I don't use a rail.

I've had 400 watt cabinets -30x30 x 60 inches works nicely

My gallery shows a 600 watt grow in a 40x40x72 inch grow.

I use fart fans, (65 cfm for a 600 in the summer). Cheap and they work great with a twenty-thirty foot run of exhaust. Pay a little more and the fans get very quiet.

There are sound ratings on the fan boxes. I've never had a fan burn out. I buy them loud and cheap! They arent' that loud at their worst. The trick is having a couple of intakes and a nice seal on your door.

The fans are plug and play. Different capacity fans work out of the same hardware. A 45 cfm fan works better in the winter when temps are cold.

Duct work on the intakes and you can bring in warm air from the ceilings in the winter and cool air from the floors in the summer.

My summer temps never exceed 90 degrees F in the grow. Exhaust goes up the fireplace flu, twenty feet of natural charcoal, and even with Res's Sour Diesel there is never a problem with smell.

Light penetrates and makes good tight bud up to about a foot down the plant.
