amsterdam was the shit. i actually got the impression tho that the dutch didnt take to kindly to out-of-towners. I actually almost got mugged to which was scarry as shit because let alone was this my first time in europe( i went to denmark to visit a friend for 2 months and went to amsterdam for a few days alone as my friend couldnt afford it and i didnt wanna pass up the chance of making it there.) I was all alone in the dam not knowing where a damn thing was. but i met a few english dudes who actually attacked the 2 dudes in that were cornering me up against a wall. So after that i bought them a few rounds. As for living there i don't think i could do it.. never been to vegas but i think thats how i would picture it. but with a whole lot of hookers and weed smoke. i feel like its sumthin u can only go do for a few days but who knos thats just me diff tokes for diff folks.

Shoot, wish I'd known someone needed a roommate!

I found a website where folks could advertise rooms to let and flatshares, I emailed every advertiser and got zero replies.

To be honest, in retrospect, I think it may have been a good thing I didn't move to Amsterdam, although I'm thinking of it again now, been made redundant from my current job here.

I'm in the same situation BH, got the sack from my job a while ago due to the company paying off 30% of their staff, a british citizen and now i'm in my mid 20's and seriously considering moving, always loved the thought of just packing up and going across to Holland, my mate and his family moved to Zandfoort for 6 months, got a job across there working in a warehouse, not the best paid job but he was very happy with it, loved the lifestyle, loved the people, when he came back and was telling me all about it it sounded like the place to be, was telling me the atmosphere in pubs, coffe shops e.t.c was/is fantastic, really friendly, laid back people, met alot of great friends, the problem is i've never been outside Britain so far and wouldn't know how to go about making plans for a possible move, peace, Hazeseeker :ying:

You should go on holiday first & see what you think.

Then use Google to search for info on "moving to the netherlands".

If u decide u like it, there are lots of practical things to consider, including the high 'start-up costs' of renting a flat, like 10% of the annual rent as an agent's admin fee, upto 3 months rent in advance & upto 3 months rent as a deposit. You may get it cheaper, but be prepared for the worst case scenario - it's not like renting in the UK!

Btw: I moved from the UK to Italy about a year ago, and am also considering moving on to the Netherlands or Spain, but seeing how things go here first. It's great leaving the UK, but remember to be practical!

Peace
