Snook, be careful posting pics from a cell phone. Many have geotagging information embedded in the pictures. That means the gps co-ords of exactly where photo taken is in the photo itself. Regular cameras do not have that issue. It can be circumvented on a phone, just wanted to make sure you at least knew of the possiblity. it.

Did I? What pics from a cellphone are ya talkin bout, stranger? My avatar was hijacked from the web. any others have been uploaded from my camera to ICM. but I might have, if I could figure out how to uplod from my cell and it is good to know. TKS.

No pictures in particular, just saw that you snapped a pic on your cell and were going to upload it. keeping up with tech is hard. It's weird that online and tech started out as a way to B unknown, now it is about impossible to be anymore . Another reason to love a ppk system, I lOve its low tech, with complexity :)

hey, snook! here's a few shots of the cloner.

two of these
drill one 7/16" and 3 3/16" holes.
wick. i show a tiki wick here but use a polyester fabric called thermolam plus. just roll it up. about 1.5" into the medium and to the bottom of the reservoir.
assembled. i fill the res about half way with flora nova bloom at 250 ppm.
the top container gets 1 1/2 quarts of turface
i take large cuts with at least 2 nodes but prefer 3.
the turface is soaked for about an hour with a 400 ppm solution then drained.
i use 26 watt daylight cfl's and try to keep the temperature around 80 f

oh yeah, the g13 was 7" at transplant so it grew 22" in 29 days.

hi, mistress! i would love to try pumice stone but the only place i could find it around here is the "grow" store, the reason i'm trying to get away from coco.

apparently on the west coast it is commonly sold as mulch. fairly inexpensive. nobody has it in my part of the country.

i have rice hulls, pine bark, and turface in abundance and cheap locally.

the clone i put into the first one is looking fine so far.

lol I aint scared of Geotagging, right now I have the same service pack as a usmarshal where triangulating is impossible, I hate being tracked and on my phone all locators are turned off and hacked so bad i barely get service good enough to call on it and 80% of the day I disable the sim and battery entirely, I was at one point in my life military intel contracted out and still know that they tag anything ip wise going out or coming in to any site the fact that I know also means I dont care cause I'm gonna do what i do regardless we have no 4th amendment or privacy anymore welcome to america... canadian dollars are worth more than ours nowadays next mexico will find out they can buy us from the inside and do it.

the SOG Im setting up is going to be all the same cut and same size starting off in mini ppks and thinking of having the nice 4 or 5 400watters or 2 400 and 2 600 watters over them with a nice footprint, I have 0 xp with SOG lighting etc, but know the setups that have worked well for me before were crazy

....o....o....
.X....X....X.
....0....0....
.X....X....X.
....o....o....

has good potential with o = 400w and 0 = 600w

I did

.....x.X.x....
....X..0..X..
.....x.X.x....

in a 4x4 with 1000w cool tube and had great results the side by side results were great too I implanted the ppk with the ModScrOG and trained and defoliated and viola have so many meds I think after cure I'll be giving more away again... nothing beats 10-12 12-16" colas the size of a redbull can wide and dense as concrete per plant (plus the rest of the branches I left due to neglect and more lol)

Thanks. I'm trying but space configuration makes me dv8 somewhat. I'll get some pics together.

Is that g-13 from Gypsy/DGS? Looks like a vigorous beast to me.
I have some DGS Artic Storm...g13xdtc99 and Pacific Killer Queen... g-13 x c99.

Everything I have grown from her has been vigorous and frosty.

Thanks for the cloner pics. I was looking for the info.

Will the tiki wick be o.k?
I can get those at the grocery, that's convenient.

dagger, i'm wondering how you are going to plumb that sog?

snook, yeah, the cloners are large. i own 20 of them but have a special table set up for them now. sometimes when i'm overcrowded i'll use solo cups with clear domes instead. they work good but i have had some losses in them.

stranger, the g13 beans came from dr greenthumb. he sends 3 for the money, so about 67 bucks each. i'll be testing some smoke in about 9 weeks. i have 6 cuttings from it now. 4 of them rooted to varying degrees.

the tiki wicks work fine. where i live they are a seasonal item in the stores so i use the fabric.

I was going to do it pro style like we have been, a lot of tire valves and black tubing and a control bucket with float valve control (probably one per each 12 plants and one bigger one to feed them that will actually have the float valve in it and a bigger bucket to feed them?) maybe all in one big one I dunno... but it should be fun as I know the exchange rate in smaller buckets will be a way higher turnover, as well that also would mean a clear flush with each top "dose" I wonder if that will have any bad side effects as the nutes would almost always be near start level... my next run starts in 2 weeks, oh joy! lol, I may try a mini SoG with 18 plants as I have 3 recs to provide for now.

I've been following this thread for awhile. What do you think about using top hat grommets instead of the tire valves? If you were going to grow horizontal, what density would you run at?

Thanks and keep the boredom coming.

Wait a minute. You keep the lids on! now that I 'really 'look' at the pics, I see you are. I've used the solo cups but only on seedlings. clones just get the bubbler till roots (no solo cups or humidity) then into sterilite for 6 weeks or so then into PPKs. Did try your ppk cloners (next size smaller sterilite) filled to the rim with the nappa 8820/nova@400ppms, no room for tops but clear solo cups would have worked there but didnt use them. I try again, your method. I can not veg verticle, I've always used flouros to do the biggest part of veg, because, I cant: cut more holes in the ceiling, knock down the closet wall, use the guest bedroom or want to use a portable AC to controll temps. Enough of my whining. Thanks for the pics and review.

hi, dgr! welcome! the grommets should work alright but i have no experience with them. i can say that the tire valves are bulletproof and never leak.

i have grown horizontal before but not in a long while. you should probably talk to someone who is currently operating that way to get up to date technique and theory.

in the past i have done 288 on a 4x8 table with 3k. a lot of work and timing there.

i've done 72 1 gal pots in a 104" x 52" trough on the floor with the same 3k.

all over 3 years ago.

i'm sure there have been new developments with this style since then.

delta,
Thanks for the reply, Maybe I'll give the top hats a try and report back here. I like the tire valves, I really do. I'm not enamored with the connection between them and the drip line. Honestly, I haven't came up with a better solution so I'm not bashing. Short of spending $10-$20 on a bulkhead fitting plus brass to go from it to barbed, I couldn't find another solution.

I''ve run a few SOGs. I'm looking to try out the PPKs but I'm not in a position to veg trees. I also see there is an economy of scale as you add more lights. To oversimplify, two lights can light one plant from two sides. 3 lights can light two plants from two sides, 4 lights .... I also have a number of beans (poor me) that I need to sort through. That will take forever adding one plant per week or 8 weeks.

Let me approach my question from a different direction. You think running PPKs under 1000 -2000W horizontal with the PPKS butting against each other (1/square foot) is a viable way to go? Say, 16 - 20 in a 4x4 or 4x5 arrangement per light. Or would you recommend a different density?

The upside is that when I want to get bored and grow trees, I'll have 20 PPKs around which would justify 19 lights

RE 2 tire valves: Or maybe, I don't have the latest tek on the tire valves. My recollection is that you're using 1/4" OD drip line with 1/4" ID surgical tubing and a wrap or two of water proof medical(?) tape to create the seal on the dripper line.

My latex tubing came today and I put together a "connection".

Valve stem - latex - drip line - latex tub - Valve stem

Looks and feels great and am sure that it could not be much easier and drip proof for sure.

Ill post a pic of it in the AM. I need sleep and another couple of posts. I will be doing a thread, and of course the build will be first. I am doing it exactly as it is here.
We also are in similar areas. I haven't decided to go vert the first run or not. I will need to get a cool tube so may just wait on the light change till run # 2.

6.5x6.5x 7 I have a 1k.

I am going to do 6 ppk in that area.

good stuff Stranger. I look forward to your pics.

I wanted to point you guys to a hydro document. Interesting stuff that points to a couple beneficial techniques used in the (active)PPK.

Here's the interesting piece that suggested to me that both the pulsing and the constantly replenished base are beneficial to plant nutrient uptake.

"The results of this study suggest that remobilized nutrients may not be as useful as freshly absorbed nutrients."

The rotating would only be for the right hand pick as they would be lit on all sides. Current veg and flower has no rotating. I'm sold on the left one. Going with 4 lights right away and will add 1-2 plants per week as they get ready. I've got a good backlog of.

That is what I thought and was saying that the plants that get light on one side can orient them selves to the light. You can train them in a way to spread them. If you rotate, you would kind of being undoing this. I'm not sure what is best, just wanted to have you consider not rotating.

Just an option...

Yea, I live in a city near LA and there is a farm supply store that has a huge pile of pumice. I never looked at the price, but it was sold in bulk.

I'm impressed with your ability to root your cuttings. I'd like to use larger containers, but sometimes my cuttings die. If I could be sure id get close to %100, I'd go with larger containers. I'm just not confident that I could do that.

I always take like 25 or so if I am targeting 16 healthy plants.

I'm at 31 days bloom and the very top leaves on the main colas are very 'skinny' and somewhat clawed, folded down from the middle. I'm pulsing about 14oz evry hour, might those skinny leaves meen to little water or too much? EC=1.4-1.5. The rest of the plants/leaves look b e a u t i f u l!

As it turns out, the 'skinny' leaves were from way too much water. I was pulsing up to 45sec/1hr. It took 2 days to spill over. Apparently 30sec/hr was too much and reducing the GAP, slowly, to zero and 45 sec/hr was the 'straw'. I'm back to 15sec/2hrs and they are much happier, leves starting to look normal.

1. clone table. clones on left are rooted. the rest are in varying stages.
2. i take large cuts with at least 2 nodes, prefer 3.
3. rooted clones just moved to the big light. change to 600 ppm jacks. the more powerful the light the higher the dose that can be used without
damaging plants.
4. conical shaped hole to bottom.
5. 1/2 ml dip-n-grow into baby doser from walgreens. fill to top with water. this gives you a 10/1 dilution.
6. cut below node. angle of cut is not important. another myth.
7. scarifying. hold blade perpendicular and lightly scrape away a little material. very little.
8. dip and swirl for about 15 seconds.
9. pop it in and tamp down the turface.
10. i cut the clamps off the lids for ease of use.
