Pananama Red

C

charlie garcia

When I first discovered there seed banks existed in mid 90's couldnt find any columbian, panaman, or mexican I was only interested. Though strange to smoke indica flowers but not just their hash! (I used to get hash form a us air force base here) and never got into what you guys were growing but own things and own sources since latest 70's. Job made for ACE Seeds of Panaman includes a 50% (3 males at third stage) of an old panaman of big and broad leafes, 11-13 leaflets, strong structure and huge internodals got from a spanish old hippy source from the 70's. Several hippy communities laid here in different places. Leaves were oil green, not too dark but not too light either. Guess was closest which may stand for the name but I dont know for sure, guess Dalay may know better. Followed for years whats called columbian reds trying to understand what people meant about C.R., mellow columbian red as my experience was with just trippy and histerical ones and never had paid attention to lowlands. Never got to understand it and always though was a generic term used describing bud/hairs colours. Despite some Panaman seemed more identified or Col Punto Rojo, rest of what Ive seen and read is kinda puzzle and when referring to C.R. I would vote for a family range more than a particular line.

hiya charlie i think the best description of the pan red leaf color was olive green as in the green leaf color of a olive plant nice looking plants to mate.

thx dalay for correction, used term oil as we make oil out of the olive trees, but seems more accurate "olive"

edit btw I cant barely perceive red colours, have failure in my viewsight ;) funny love the reds

hey guys n gals, it sounds like many in here are very experienced, that picture i posted, have any of you seen anything like that? my mom said it was close, hers was more rusty than brick red

wild stuff, i love sativas and exotic tings, it would be so awesome to get ahold of this type of red genetics if at all possible *yum i'm sure!*

Excellent sativa buds Raco. To me none of the sativa dom hybrids come close to that look in cali dispensaries. If we legalize out here the demand would be huge for pure sativa. Do they retain most of their characteristics when grown out of their native latitudes? I know a lot of what makes the quality special is environmental specific.

well i have been reading this tread wit great interest and here is my go at it.
my faters sisters husband eg. my uncle was fleeing the draft from the vietnam war in 1969-70 and ended up in my contry, bringing with him Acapulco Gold seeds wich he grew under tubes indoor up until 1979 where the pardon came so he for the first time since fleeing could return to US for a visit. this he did and from this journey brought home some Panama Red seeds to grow out, 1979 i was 15 years old and the year i started growing in my moms and dads backyard, and i grew out both Acapulco Gold and Panama Red
the plant was ca 100cm - 120cm high
the leaves where somewhat broadleaf ornamental and had a blue hue
the main stalk had as i have seen described in this tread blue/red lines going all the way from the ground up making the whole plant look striped.
the brances was going almost straight upwards and i cannot remember any bulb at the internode.
the smell was sandcake / cereal
this pic is from my album and it should describe everything but the stature
picture.php

the structure of the plants was that was wery like the pic charlie just posted

my best bet on this topic is as charlie said that there was not one and one only Panama Red but a range of lines with differing traits coming from the same area

the same goes for Acapulco Gold
at actually lokked like yellow hue moroccan sativa and was wery herm prone

there's a guy floating around a different site that claims he has a cross of panama red and something else, he was calling it panamasedena red (panama x pasadena), the story goes that his friend has the true panama red but won't let anyone get cuts or pure seeds from it, he let the friend pollenate 1 bud or something, so he wound up with a cross that looks like nothing i have ever seen

here's a picture of it:

DISCLAIMER: no i don't know where to get it, i can't get seeds or clones, i am just a man that stumbled upon this picture...sorry, just every time i post this i get pms asking me for it, i wish!

after 15 years and 4 generatios the line has been sent back to Colombia (thx charlie...you made it possible) ;)
I bet that ridiculously potent specimens can still be found :D

charlie garcia´s Thai/Skunk x Panama 74...one of those one-of-a-kind items :yummy:

RACO

i hope you can give us a little info on that punto rojo you posted on the last page
im very interested in the taste/aromas

you keep me drooling

i lov all the pics and it be great if you could tell us som traits of them all i lov to hear your experiences with diff taste/aromas ,especially considering there is not soo much info on the s.american strains of yesteryear and you seem to hav or experienced sooo many

the thai/skunk X panama is quite similar lookin to a pheno of sk/hz i grew from mns , not surprising since they share a similar lineage

you should really consider starting a thread with all your photos of pure sativas i think it would be very beneifical and a great contribution to our community especially for the younger generation like myself

@Raco

read ClearBarbedFunk.s post at the first page - line four from the bottom
Quote:
"The plants had stalks with alternating green and purple vertical lines"

thats what i refered to when i wrote

"the main stalk had as i have seen described in this tread blue/red lines going all the way from the ground up making the whole plant look striped."

when i refer to the lines i do not refer to the green background that because of the Blue/red linies appears as green stripes

and no it did not look like the pics you show here when dried :)

@ Raco please quote me right when you cut and paste in my postings

as everyone should see there is a wast difference when i ABOVE the pic
stated that "this pic is from my album and it should describe everything but the stature"
and under the pic stated that "the structure of the plants was that was wery like the pic charlie just posted"

and to the quote of me that you just did, only pasting the image from my album and the statement under the pic.

i dont know if your are trying to have a laugh at my behalf, or anything but is it so
then i dont care, i know what i have grown.

to pin it out the structure of the plants was like the third pic ClearBarbedFunk just posted
so now you have two refrences

as reply to your second post
no i do not have pics of the Panama Red plants from that time
back then taking pictures of a plant seemd to be somewhat crazy, and a vaste of film.
at least in my family cameras was only used for special ocasions
or in this case one of my haircuts (just wait and see) where some not wery big acapulco gold showed in the background
