I think the best material is used panty hose. believe it or not. Cut strips and tie down. It is gentle and stretchy and strong, it won't injure the stem and it expands as the stem expands and doesn't cut into it.

That said I use the black metal spring "binder" clips with the two fold down handles on the side of the pot, then hook a bent paper clip on the branch and to the clip.

damn petey, never thought about the panty hose thing dude!!! Kick ass idea; cause then it will allow them to partly bend back up where, when I tied mine down I used string......... to keep them in place; but damn I love it when you learn something new everyday!

thanx Stitch. I've used the pantyhose on tomatoes before, but now for tomatoes I built monster cages from steel concrete reinforcement grid. It's like 4' x 6', so you roll it into a tube and bend the ends to hook the grid and voila, awesome tomato cages that will support the most massive crop.

Man tomatoe plants get out of wack; when the pictures are fixed I got a crazy patch to show you; we grew out 3 tomatoes and it looked like we had 15 plants growing; they grew to quickly and by thetime we got a cage for it it was too late so we just let them grow and lifted the flower areas off the ground so the tomatoes would not be kept on the ground..........

so I hear ya on there about them being so big; I used the same mixture I did with them as I did my grow; cause I still have a TON of it mixed and sat and a lot of it in bags still.........
