Outside with spider mites?

Hello all,

I have picked up my clone from a local dispensary. Upon getting home I discovered that one was heavily infested with spider mites.

I will be growing outdoors again this year and live in an area that has foggy and very cool nights at least till summer breaks.

Should I be concerned as it is my understanding that spider mites are not a big issue in this area due to the weather conditions and natural predation and checks and balances?

I could try and return the inflicted plant but it was mixed in with the others during transport and feel that they may be infected as well and I have not noticed it.

At the moment they are in my breezeway acclimating and under about 16 hours of shaded daylight/supplemental porch light. They were under 24hrs/day t-4 lighting. In addition, all the new plants that came in today for stock to the dispensary are all in the same approximate environment so cross-contamination is highly likely.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on the matter? Should I not worry as they are outside. Should I spray/dunk them with a icy cold soapy water tobacco solution?

They are still in small containers and easily worked with at the moment.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Treat your plants ...

Treat your plants ...

Try some "Mighty Wash", it works.

I had an outside spider mite infestation last summer. And they killed all of my Tomatoes.

I used it on my Bubba plants and saved them.

Good Luck :woohoo:

I would spray them, they are unlikely to go away on their own. Plus they are a LOT harder to deal with once you get into fall and the plants are flowering. Kill em now while you can do so easily.

Here in the 707 we have bad mites also bud worms . I have to spray the entire yard everything . This year I am going to add neem to the nutes to increase resistance. I had a mantis hanging out for a while last year he helped but didn't stay lol. Peace

spray spray spray while they are vegging, mite problems just get worse in flowering...

even if your just using natural sprays there are many things u can use that are natural to help knock them back... and you can switch up what your spraying :) pm me if you have any questions... there are several recipes on this website :joint:

Alternate what you spray too otherwise you are just breeding pest resistant mites. Has to be a 'different mode of action' not just a different brand. One of the reasons we have such a big mites issue in NorCal is because there are so many fucking retards out there that just spray the same thing over, and over, and over, and over and never alternate and do not understand basic pest management.

Hello all,

Well, this the game plan.

I have remove the seriously infected leaves. I have sprayed with ice water in the night when temps are below 60*F. I realize that water is not effective against the eggs but the spray removes some of the larger SM's. Since these are clones, I have also wiped down each leaf (top and bottom). I have visually inspected each of the remaining leaves (top and bottom) including the stems.

There does not appear to be any remaining eggs or SM's. I also realize that I more then likely missed one.

So, since I know that the outdoor environment has spider mites already there is nothing to be done short of applying pesticides around my land (no going to happen) still with no guaranty. Last year I saw multitudes of ladybugs and lacewings in my garden I expect they will be there this year as well. I am counting on nature to do its jobs at keeping 'the borg' at bay.

So now I will consider the healthy plant resistance approach. I was reading about silica additives.

I have also inspected all of my clones for this years garden.

This years choices are:

GS Cookies
Sour diesel (the clone in question)
Cherry Pie
Green Crack

Thanks for all the advice

addendum: I will also use ladybugs this season as well.

tell who ever you got the clone from they suck!!! And kick them in the nuts.
They are infesting everyone with mites. some growers have no ethics.

you should always quarantine cuttings form outside sources for 3 weeks.
Get some azamax and pyganics.
if you really want to be safe get some forbid or avid.
at least they did not give you root aphids yet?

DO NOT USE PYGANICS OR ANY OTHER PYRETHRIM BASED SPRAY FOR MITES.

It stimulates their reproductive cycle and makes the infestation worse in the long run! They are literally the worse thing you can apply for mites.
