OUTERSPACE : Space Shuttles, Ships, Stations and Interplanetary travel

cooked cook

bake at 420 until nicely toasted
I'm a big fan of space research in general. When we finally finish off this planet, it'd be nice to have done some groundwork on other options. And, knowledge about our universe is good. That being said, they seriously need to update our hardware. Even though these old caddilacs of the sky are still running, it's getting riskier and riskier. Havin our heroes ridin ammuntion is not smart. And now so much more can be done with robots FIRST, then humans, if we really need to grandstand a bit.
As a kid growing up, I was under the impression that the year 2000 was officially "the future" and that things would be all chrome, and we'd have hovercars and personal jetpacks.
myself and Mrs cook actually went to a shuttle launch. Saw one of the first pieces of the ISS go up on Discovery. a hell of a show.
In this cook's opinion, since a lot of the hangup on advancement of technologies is FUNDING that the future of space will need to depend a lot on private funding.
Lots of rich folks out there willing to throw billions at it in exchange for their logo on the vehicle, and without compromising government $ for other things like humanitarian causes.
I was real impressed with the flight of SpaceShip One. Ol Rutan andhis buddies are knockin together spaceships in their garage.
live long and prosper, yall.

Damnit Jim...I'm a dope grower, not a doctor!

hey gangabiss, i have watched that disclose project before, very impressive to say the least :)
i liked how they openly talked about so many different kinds of different beings they had seen catalogued and how their perceptual abilities differed from those of today's humans.
there's a tv series by the man who wrote the series of books called the 'troyan horse' j.j. benitez, there's one episode where he discloses for the first time what he claims to be 14mins of unreleased material filmed on the first moon walk. you gotta watch it if you can find it with english subtitles.

peace.

edit: check it out, youtube has a clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pUbrSZyFIQ

look up!

look up!

For those of you that haven't seen it yet, the International Space Station is QUITE visible with the naked eye.
There are quite a few sites where you can punch in your closest city, and get dates, times, coordinates, etc, for when it'll pass. If you've got a clear night, it's quite a sight.

I've seen it about 10 times, during different times of the year, and at many different times. You only get a 3-7 minute pass usually, but it really stands out, as it is not only bright, but clearly the highest, fastest moving thing up there. Check it out, folks. It's an amazing thing to think there are humans onboard something that is passing that quickly, that far out.
Happy viewing!
