stinking thinking rejecting a seed line purely down to its origins, at this latitude/hardiness zone options are limited and a hardy plant with great resistance to mold ,, that also has a nice high and a lovely scent ??

Its not even that, there is a time and a place for hybrids, i am just not interested in them at all. No big deal Its not like they are going anywhere unlike the unhybridised ones. Just my take on it...Appreciate the suggestion, its just i am looking to establish a semi-feral population somewhere, and kind of want to keep the dutch stuff out of the equation for many reasons, the main one being how distinctive those dutch plants look and smell you know? I am not saying you are wrong, i am sure one day i will come crawling back to get the name of the plant you just dropped, but i know with the diversity of the plant, that there is more out there and it intrigues me far more, would rather start with the ruderal siberian stuff and go from there or something

Final edit, id also rather not give arjan and greenhouse my money. I dont like him, or his company, and how the biodiversity of cannabis has suffered because of this, meanwhile he pretends to not be a part of the problem with cringe stuff like "strainhunters"

I tried some of that Nepalese stuff from RSC, which were very interesting. They are hardy enough, great smells/plants but flower to late to finish properly at 53 lat. Potency is all over the place. But no doubt probably produce great hashish.

Sadly I'm to limited in space and numbers to make a big load of hash, so I prefer buds.

Most Dutch/Danish/Canadian outdoor classics I tried have many different pheno's, so its also a bit of a lottery in regards of potency and taste. Most Canadian stuff seems to rot away here anyway.

Would be nice to find or make something that has it all: the hardiness, high potency and nice bag appeal.

To be honest mate I’m not as far away as that from the equator.

Also I’ve only really grown “Dutch” stuff outdoors myself .

So I can’t give you any advice from personal experience.

If I had to bet on a horse for you I would look at Nepali Baglung. (I see you mentioned purple satellite)

Yeah, had a hard time sourcing the baglung, but its on the list of acquisitions lol

Lol at just under 56N, and coastal, my growing season is just over 90 days

Acouple hours further north and we get the "midsummer" never ending daylight type stuff around the summer solstice, really long days in summer and only about 6 hours of daylight per day in the winter solstice

Also i will mess wirh ruderalis but not as much autoflowers. Last time i did those outside it was the beginning of august, there was nice warm, gentle rain, which made the plants melt like butter under a stream of pish

Edit: so my only real advice is take clones and find your winner the keep it alive over winter for the next season.

Thanks, no definitely, been reading this thread and others like this for a while now, at the point i have read all of them more or less, been really keen on oldpineys grows and similar folk on here...I eventually broke and made this account. Hopefully i will have some valuable contributions to give some day soon. My idea is to sort of create a 'semi-feral' and diverse population that i can use as a genetic base and go from there, let the environment select for the hardy plants and save seeds from the survivors, repeat the process until they are somewhat adapted and less reliant on maintenence

Il try to take your advice with the clones, never been good at keeping individual plants long term, usually get ill or pest ridden sooner or later, usually flower asap to mitigate this

Yeah oldpiney had a good run with purple satellite and beldia. Worth checking out his grows for sure he’s a cool guy

Apparently there is a German guy who did this over a period of 10 years With a bunch of strains to create a “landrace”. Haven’t seen the thread myself, but if anyone has a link?

They are hardy and resistant AF, so I'm pretty sure a seedrun won't be a problem to make some viable seeds.

But due to the cold and low ammount of light/light hours here the buds don't really develop very well.

Maybe better to try it indoors in this climate sometime. Is going to take some serious bending and pruning though.

Lots of the stuff that's going around among Nordic guerilla growers - aswell as some old outdoor Dutch strains - are simply acclimatized landraces or close relatives of it (Lebanese, Afghans, etc.). There might be some accidental cross polination, but I think most are still quite pure. Most of the sites selling them have very decent prices (few bucks a seed) and a lot of free stuff with it. They don't seem to be in it for the money.

But for medical reasons I'm looking for something stronger and more potent. For a fair price ofcourse (for instance always heard great things about the Purple Sattelite, but the price the vendor asks keeps me off).

The Danes sold several nice acclimatized landraces like Oldfarmer Nepal and Leb47 (10 seeds for about 10 bucks), but these are hard to get these days.

The landrace stuff intrigues me also very much, but most is to late for my lattitude or doesn't cope well with the wet climate. So I'm stuck with the older proven strains and stuff with ruderalis crossed into it.

Lots of the stuff that's going around among Nordic guerilla growers - aswell as some old outdoor Dutch strains - are simply acclimatized landraces or close relatives of it (Lebanese, Afghans, etc.). Most of the sites selling them have very descent prices (few bucks a seed) and a lot of free stuff with it. They don't seem to be in it for the money.

But for medical reasons I'm looking for something stronger and more potent. For a fair price ofcourse (for instance always heard great things about the Purple Sattelite, but the price the vendor asks keeps me off).

Thanks, am fine with inbred lines like the ones you are mentioned, il have a lookout for them, just dont want yet another skunk cross if you get me so those ones soind great. Honestly yeah, the prics of the ps was a major downer, but i am intrigued with it and want to try it indoors to see if its odour is less distinctively "cannabis like" by most hybrid standards, small ones i have now smell just like berry fruit juice drink

The Nepalese ones I tried were Nanda Devi, Dashinkali and Kumaoni. They had very mild nice floral and spicy notes, no heavy smells.

Lao/Thai strains like Lao Sa and Highland Thai were also very low odor. Bit more citric, leather smells. But lot of hermie issues.

I'd stay away from the Hindu Kush strains, because those reek like hell with their fuelly, skunky and shit/puke notes. Very "Dutch" smells.

Alot of hybrids are actually quite nice, just not into the whole "cross everything with everything else, that has already been crossed with everything else" type stuff. If you get away with hybrids outside i probably would too after a think and a sleep, without me being too much of a hypocrite, if i could ask, you for a small list of suggestions i could keep for a rainy day id appreciate. Not very confident in them as i want "weedy" plants but i realize i am being a moron by discounting these plants. Still dont like arjan and greenhouse though, hes a prong.

I'm still looking for the perfect stable strain which combines it all. Now I'm already happy if they finish with no or little mold in my climate.

It's really pheno dependend, but these plants did quite wel for me and were quite consistent:

LBH - Double Fun
(Mix of Jan Veen his Dame Blanche and spacekees his Double Fun - flowering start in august, some mold, but relatively potent and nice taste/smell). My favorite untill now.

LBH - Ierdbei
(Dutch version of Erdbeer, but polyhybrid - some pheno's are potent, others not so, maybe high CBD?)

Viking IBL
(Starts flowering a bit later, big producer, low odor, fluffy buds, very mold resistant, lacks a bit in potency)

Bluehemp - Maroc Inspiration
(Hasplant, typical Maroc spicy smells, not very potent, but the only Maroc that's somewhat mold resistant here).

HFH - Danish Gold
(Quite early, good producer, relatively mold resistant, some potent pheno's)

HFH Wild Royal Dane
(Very early, special cattpissy smell, some pheno's are quite potent, relatively mold resistant)

Durban
(I think its a hybrid version though: quite early, nice producer, speedy high, nice citric/anise smells - but is receptive for mold in late flowering)

Erdbeer
(Swiss strain, quite thight buds, but relatively mold resistant, a bit later though)

Mostly Dutch, Danish and Swiss genetics. Also tried Canadian genetics, but these were usually very prone to mold.

Most "outdoor" stuff sold by the commercial Dutch seedbanks is too late (I think bred indoors or in sunny Spain). So I tend to shy away from that, with some exceptions.

Check out outdoorkingseeds on seedheaven too some lovely stuff there, he's an outdoor warrior breeder, worth keeping an eye out. Would go for the ThaiKing again if I didn't have such a septoria issue. The Mextiza x UELsat was killer too, and super mould resistant

Anyone finding leaf blight/fungus/septoria an issue in their northern outdoor grows? Purple satellite has been most resistant for me.

I find the price on the Purple Sattelite quite steep. Principally I usually don't spend too much money on seeds (not because I'm cheap, but because I think its just ridiculous to ask 10 bucks a seed for a plant that makes thousands in one round - even if some breeding effort is put into it).

But as this Purple Sattelite strain continually keeps popping up in these conversations, I might give it a try sometime anyhow. Also will have a look into that Mountain Gold.

This year I set my hopes already on some KC Brains stuff though. Did not try his strains yet, but read quite some good things about it. Seems an oldschool Dutch outdoor grower and he carries some interesting old crosses for reasonable prices. My main bet is on TNR as I really like Thai strains.

I have some stuff from outdoorkings lying around too. Did not try their King crosses yet, but their Erdbeer repro was great. I also tried their UEL which smelled great and was very early, but it did not like the humidity and had lots of mold before finishing properly. Same for their Dart repro, which looked like it packed a punch, but had to be discarded due to botrytus. That the plants were situated in a humid greenhouse probably didn't help. But certainly a breeder to look into with very fair pricing.

Another Dutch breeder with some very interesting outdoor stuff is La Buena Hierba. Not very stable strains, but lots of hardy stuff that finishes on time. Really liked his Double Blanche strain. He carries a Thyphoon repro, but did not try it yet.

Also has some superauto's. I planted his Cococobana Haze, which was one of the strongest smelling plants I ever encountered. Had to cut it because it reeked up the whole block even before flowering.

I realised this year why some excellent quality genetics are steep - you're buying the breeding rights essentially, not really, but, that's what you have access to now, all that work gone in..

Most potent crazy stuff in the past:
HFH - Hashplant & Hashplant 2 - misleading names, poly hybrids,
Asian Haze from La Buena Hierba had some super up, potent types,
Jamaican Berry from Flash was very tasty.

Do you have a plot outside? I've not found flowers do too well in the humidity of a tunnel even though the rain is off them. Having direct UV, wind - training plants tall (which PS naturally wants to do, 1 meter before branches) and shaking the rain off them when even possible.

You’re buying a friend for life. Same as a dog. I wouldnt pay for a mutt myself but a quality breeding for sure.

Did you buy your seeds from LBH recently? I heard that LBH has gone downhill in recent years. I talked to two growers on Reddit who had bad experiences with them. One got seeds that wouldn't germinate and the other said that LBH took their money but never shipped out their order and refused to respond to emails. I reached out to them a few months ago by email and Instagram asking about a couple of their strains but they never responded. I decided not to buy from them based on their refusal to answer me and the experiences of other growers, but I might be willing to reconsider if others have had recent positive experiences with them.
