Not a diary from start to finish, first pictures I post here are fresh and we are at around 40 days flowering.
I have three Purple Satellites (Green Mountain Seeds/Vermontman), one Biddy Early (Serious Seeds) and one Cherry Dream (Kannabia).
Will post a group shot, then single photos of each lady and a closeup from each strain. My stash is just about finished so when I started these beans in January I wanted a quick harvest and did not veg long at all. Was also thinking about the height of the Purple Satellites if vegging for too long. I have had/have some problems with fungus gnats and I have used recycled soil and been a bit lazy. Only feeding them some very basic algae nutrition (NPK 3:3:3) and blackstrap molasses. I knew the Purple Satellites were prone to nanners without a proper step-down going in to 12/12, I started reducing light hours from 18/6 down to 12/12 after only about 10 days of vegging and reduced the lights with 30 minutes every three days and I think this was a bit too aggressive and I induced flowering too soon so all the Purple Satellites have thrown nanners, not too bad though.
Some comments to each plant/strain
Purple Satellite (regular)
I originally planned for two females, but I ended up getting three from four seeds planted. My tent is quite small so I let the third Purple Satellite spend the rest of her life in the small (tall and narrow) vegging pot. It is a lot smaller than the two in the larger pots and also less purple. The single male Purple Satellite I got was used to collect some pollen (now in the freezer) and to pollinate both the single Cherry Dream lady and the single Biddy early lady. About 10 days after stepping down the lights, the Purple Satellites really started taking off and growing tall (the ones in the larger pots). They were the first in the tent to show pistils and are further along than the Biddy Early and the Cherry Dream. They have dark purple stems, leaves are turning almost black (for the two in the larger pots, the smaller one is not nearly as purple). Both the stems and the leaves have a very rough/sandpaper like texture to them - very interesting! It pretty much grows (indoors that is) straight up, long internodal distance and almost zero side branching. They smell delicious, fruity and sweet and especially the one in the small pot is really frosting up. So far/at this stage, they are definitely lower in the odour department compared to most other strains I have grown. When rubbed they do give off a quite strong smell though, but not really any "skunkiness" to it. They won't yield much grown like I did, but they sort of are my favourites because of those dark waxy sandpaper leaves and delicious smell!
Biddy Early (regular)
I really like the growth pattern, the single plant I have behaves like any indoor strain and is starting to frost up. This one also has a sweet/somewhat smilar smell to the Purple Satellites but it has a stronger odour and definitely skunk in the background. I hope I will get some seeds from the pollination with the Purple Satellite as it could prove to be a cross that will work great both indoors and out. We will see how this turns out, but it has zero nanners and seems like a strong and tough plant that will end up quite resinous and smelly! It just started purpleing up a bit (the large fan leaves).
Cherry Dream (feminized)
I have grown three females of this before. One taller pheno and two shorter ones. One of the short phenos had some purplening. Can't say they tasted like cherry though, but they were easy to grow, resinous and pretty potent plants. The one I have going this round is quite light green in colour and took much longer than the Purple Satellite and Biddy Early to enter flowering mode/throwing pistils. So this one looks to finish last, it is sort of starting to catch up now. It is very short, stout and branchy and did not stretch much at all. The fan leaves are huge for such a small plant and I have to do some defoliation. No real frost yet, but the previous three I grew were also a bit late with the frost and then it really came on towards the end. Happy to say though, this one I am growin now does have cherry smelling terpenes/less skunky/generic than the previous three I grew. This one I am REALLY hoping to get some seeds from/was also partially pollinated by the Purple Satellitemale.
Here come the pics - the names of the pics should guide/tell you which plant is which
Happy growing everyone!
