what would your house smell like after this process
Bloody awfull i expect, though having said that, if i went and got a few buckets of shrimp waste, it would be fresh, so maybe not as bad as all that.

Having said all that, id do it in the garden, on my propane burner.

I agree, it does seem like a lot of work, but in reality, its just a case of boiling the waste for as long as possible, then washing it, then dissolving in vinegar.

I like the idea of being able to make my own, who knows how much the Chinese will want for this if demand increased, i notice that not many people on the forum are talking about chitins and chitosan, i think its a relatively new discovery.

It is after all a good, semi organic fungicide, or preventative. And as such, very useful for our endeavours. In reality you can probably just boil the waste in caustic, this should make it smell almost of nothing, then wash in water and just use the shell as a soil additive, allowing the slight acidity of the soil to break down the chitosan contained therein.

danm sup with the uk and nutes???
Im not sure, but maybe we just hate to spend money. Are you refering to the stickied nutes thread in the UK sub forum?
I love that thread maybe i should take this discussion there. I posted my thought here though because we have been talking fungicides for outdoor grows too.

Although chitosan is a fungicide of sorts, it really triggers a response in the plant itself by feeding certain kinds of benificial bacteria (i think).

Thanks Esbe, i think it will be 90% esbe genetics that will be growing in here, with the odd autoflower experiment that is grounded in pure optimism rather than good Danish common sense.:)

Sea90 looks good, and i also noticed that chitins are in fungi as well as crustaceans and insect bodies, im wondering if some soil from my local broadleaf woodlands might be rich in chitosan since its also very full of mycelia and fungus.

Ive been wondering also if this is why bat guano is so good for plants since bats live almost exclusively on insects (dont they)?
Well, not Fruit and Vampire bats maybe.

Here's a couple of pics from today ... they have been pollinated with Hashplant2 so these should be the last to get dusted.

Hi weegie

Im only dusting them once as the others are looking pregnant already and they only got dusted once so i think its all good for now apart from having Leaf miner running all over them ,looks like sterilisation doesn't work always... but i dont think they affect the plants in a really bad way it's just a annoying thing to have in your garden ... after this outdoor run no more soil for me' its a pain for beastie's being in the growroom.

Wow, leaf miners, indoors, in winter. The problem insect i keep having return on me like a bad curry is fungus gnats. I keep thinking i have them sorted, and then (like last night 2 or 3 turn up. They used to hatch in large numbers at one point, but then i covered my pots in 2" of sand. Once the next lot of plants go into their final pots im going to water them all with Nemysis benificial nematode mix.

I know what you mean about ponics, its so simple and regulatable, and really productive.

Im going to try the "brew your own tea" route, im totally sold on the benefits of microbes in the potting soil. We shall see.

Hi Mossy

Oh i know all about fungus gnats had them in my coco a few runs back and there almost impossible to get rid of ..i had to shut down for work in the house and i bleached everything in the room, pots, trays.light shade's,dehuey and it worked but now this soil has brought leaf miners which ive never had before till now and no cure apart from Spinosad...which you can only get from America so im stumped. They're tricky little c*nts they run and hide from you and when you get one it jumps out the way and probably laughs at me lol

aagggghhhhhhhhh Damn you leaf miner.

im just dying to get back to hydro for sanity's sake lol.

the plants still look good high. The plants look healthy at this stage and blooming quite nicely, I predict ready april 10th. but maybe 15th, but we shall see.

Hi Windy

Im sure they will be finnished before the end of march ..its been a gradual pollination so some will finnish well before the others ...im suprised how quick they have swelled out and you can see some of the immature seeds squeezing out they're jackets. so far so good .

Dont worry about your hashplant2's Mossy wait till you see the state of mine ...they dont like the HPS for some reason along with potassium def (JA Bowers)..they dont look pretty put it that way ..and they grow tall so watch out Mossy, i'll get a photo tonight to show you. ;)
