It is difficult to bring outdoor soil in without bringing in undesired pests. Outdoors plants can handle those buggers with a little bit of helping from you. However, indoors growing requires an almost clean room enviroment. I would not suggest trying to bring in outdoor soil. Miracle Grow makes a good organic soil. It says not applicable for pots but I have found that to be untrue and is entirely applicable. Just make your own soil mix and save yourself from potential headaches.

I have to agree that soil brought from the outdoors can have weed seed and pests.

However just a handfull can bring microorganisms in.

If you do look carefully at what is in the soil.

BUT WAIT!~ What did they use on that soil? Is it an ORGANIC farm?

I brought those pill bugs in from some compost I had outside.

Took putting the soil in plastic tubs and storing it in a shed for the summer to clear them out.. Not hat pill bugs bothered MJ they just lived in harmony with the decaying matter

I didn't put the soil out just to get rid of the pill bugs.

Use good sense and screen it if you still want to use it.

Look it over and amend! it may have been good but it still needs things to keep it that way.

That's all I can think of...

It's best to start out in control of the garden soil IMO... That means making or buying your own from my point of view.

Still there isn't any law that says you can't..

Best wishes

Thank you gentlemen for your wisdom,, you've really confirmed the doubts I've had about this endeavor...I can get organic fed cattle manure here and brew teas and get the benefits I seek...was trying to avoid the extra steps...just needed second opinions;which you've respectfully given..thanks again!

I use a bit of soil dug from the garden in my soil mix and I haven't had any problems. I agree that the potential is there but I believe the benefits outweigh the risks.
Personally I'd mix it up with some of that cow manure and perhaps a nice bit of compost
and maybe some worm manure if you've got access to some. Your plants will love it.

Good luck,
