Hi everyone,
Newbie here. I tried a little grow last year ('09), didn't work out too well due to some problems with light pollution and a late start, but it definitely had it's moments.
As I've been out of [decent] work for over two years now, own pretty much nothing besides some dried food, some camping equipment, 40 Cannabis seeds and a piss-poor credit rating, I'm looking at going pretty much all out in '10.
So without further ado, here is quick outline of my plans, as they stand:
1. locate a nice spot
My main considerations here are:
a) security - I don't want to get shot, I don't want to get arrested, I don't want to get ripped off.
b) growing season - It's got to be long enough that I can germ, clone, sex, and still have enough time to get some decent-sized plants before they flower.
c) soil, water, etc.
2. site-prep, clone production, etc.
I'd like to get the seeds started ASAP, at the lowest cost possible.
What I'm thinking of doing is setting up sort of an in-ground greenhouse type of thing, and then I'll need to do something to insulate it. Once it's warm enough outside, I'll also use this for cloning & sexing.
Security concerns aside, probably the largest obstacle I'm looking at right now is digging the holes, and amending the soil. I don't plan on growing anywhere with any clay soil, but for all of this to be worthwhile I'll need to do something to improve the soil, I'm sure. Right now I'm leaning toward coco-coir and organics, as almost anything else would just be too much to carry, but any advice in this area would be ... welcome.
3. grow, harvest, dry, pack it up and head home! (or somewhere else, at least)
I'll probably set up camp somewhere a couple miles off-site. I'd like to get off of the ground if possible. If I could get a little fishing in that would be nice, too. Otherwise most of my time will probably be spent watching the plants.
While that promises to be a challenge in and of itself, it will probably be the most straightforward aspect of the entire operation, and undoubtably the most enjoyable.
Well ...that's it, in a nutshell! Thoughts, questions, comments?
I'm hoping to get this rough idea refined a bit, any help would be appreciated.
