OR's rec. battle begins: A call to action

Thanks BadPenny! Great posts! Keep them coming please :)

By the way, Google Earth is a huge and useful tool for dealing with boundary issues (the measuring tool is a life saver!)

I want to warn people about using "Canna Zoning" geospatail tool, the very young guy (in his early 20's) running it is very shady! And his work is subpar. Not only that, he charges WAY too much for his tool. I started using it for WA when he first launched, when it was $15 suggested donation, then, it went to $50 per month, then, it went to $100 per month, heck, now it's likely $500 per month if he keeps his trend going.

The owner and programmer of Canna Zone is very rude and likes to hurl insults and curse words when his pricing scheme and quality of his tool are rightfully questioned.

I suggest everyone stays far, far from him! Right now I don't think he has OR maping setup, but I assume he will, just like he has for WA.

I find the best way to deal with boundary issues is using Google Earth and state lists of schools, etc., including town/county zoning maps; and using Google Earth to look for things that may be too close (like a public park or arcade). It's really quite easy to do it that way, and I find the results are better than using Canna Zoning (which is error prone).

forget it, the message was lost on the deflection of which app to use, for Christ's sake!
I'm not sure what you're upset about, what are you referring to above?

Those links you posted, which are helpful, only show primary and secondary schools. But not other places that are going to be listed for boundaries, like libraries, licensed child care centers (like daycare), arcades, public parks, etc.

I'm guessing that guy didn't contribute to the Canna Law Firm?
Nope. Canna Law Firm has their own running list of zoning regulations for cities and counties in WA, but no GIS mapping software.

no probs, apologies, bad pain day. I agree with you then if there are even more zones to worry about, thanks for the google earth info. It's gonna get crazy, as Ive heard guys think you can do med and rec at same residence, I don't believe that's the way the law reads, yet the rules aren't set yet, yet the moratoriums seem to still stand, and then who will enforce the laws, etc? Now all these zones that seem to fall mostly under the med side, its always been within 1000 ft of school thing, seems like. With the new regs, many folks be disappointed they cant grow their four trees out back due to a zoning issue. Be crazy. Not to mention the Big Money ready to step in and hit the ground running. JMHO. Peace,

No worries.

Up here in WA there are so many wrong claims it's crazy. I mostly hear the most crazy things from medical growers and retailers who are totally against recreational (big surprise there) - and home growers that fear loosing business. It's like the game telephone, where people sit a circle and the story changes from person to person, so by the time it's back to the first person it's a totally different story.

Right now there's not too much to know as the rules haven't even been proposed. They're still doing the "listening sessions" and whatnot.

From my experience in the recreational industry thus far, I would not suggest anyone buy or lease property at this point. I know too many people that have lost millions doing that in WA, finding out their property don't meet the rules because they got it before the rules were completed, or not being able to use the property for 2 years because they still don't have their licenses.

And that's only the buffer area around all those various business and organizations (I wish it was only schools!), that's not even about zoning, as in, city zoning. At least in WA (and I think in CO), growers and processors are normally relegated to the industrial/manufacturing and agricultural zones (and sometimes commercial zones) in cities and counties that have them; retail is normally placed in commercial or business zones. No one is allowed in residential zones that I have ever seen.

In WA each city and county makes their own zoning rules, so it's not simple to know where you're allowed to locate in each area. I find looking on the city or county web site for zoning rules for Cannabis, as well as calling the city and county is effective and efficient.

So it's buffer zone of 500' or 1,000' is likely, as the crow flies, as well as only being allowed to locate in specific zones within cities and counties.

As far as I know (and I can't believe otherwise) a business cannot grow for medical and recreational, or process, at the same physical location without a wall and different entrances separating them, even if it's all the same company.

Im really considering dry climate industrial areas in oregon as opposed to high RH areas. Im debating whether to use ventilation systems for the dry climate or to just go with a sealed environment wherever i end up. But it would be nice to cut down on a little HVAC energy from AC.

Whats your thoughts on dry climate and ventilation vs sealed?

So far i plan to do a facility no bigger than 5000sq ft and lights split between two 30 lights rooms or three 20 light rooms.

Swamp cooling in the Mojave works great!
