Tutorial Organics for Beginners

I believe that most of the pellets are clay coated. So, I would look at the info on the bag and find out how much % of lime it contains and do the math from there. And I think most of those are minimums. It is like the guanos I have. It gives a minimum % of guano and the rest is rock powders and other things.

That is what I would do.

Going through the thread again seems like every other post is about lime. I got a 50 lb bag for 10 bucks. Thanks for the greensand sauce b1

I am a soil newbie . Can you reuse soil , or do you pitch it after each harvest ?

Reuse it for sure! Add some amendments, bury some bokashi, or even just top dress it's all good. Don't forget the lime.

After a while your peat/coir/whatever will start to break down, then it is time to recycle it in the worm bin.

50/50 new and old soil will work too, looks around do some searching you will find alot of recipes for reuseing soil

For those of you who have reused your soil: do you find that ur recycled soil gets better with age and amendments after each cylce.

You guys should ask questions like this in the Three Little Birds thread "The Reuse of Our Soil" so it will get bumped up in the main forum. Reusing soil is not really a task for beginners.
Here's the link...

Burnone, I know you get a ton of stupid lime questions, but I have a good one for you that I can't figure out. Well, right now Im using pelletized lime because I could never find powered/pulverized. But today I think I might have found the right stuff, but Im not sure. The brand is Mayville- garden and lawn lime. It doesn't say dolomite anywhere on the bag, but on the back it says "quarry lime". And it only gives two things in the guaranteed analysis calcium 22%, Magnesium 12%. And says its calcium carbonate equivalent is at least 102%. This stuff is a fine creamish colored powder. I wanted to run this by you to make sure its not the wrong stuff and kill my future ladies.

Operation: Salvage

Operation: Salvage

Hey Microherder's,

Well, I got a situation. About 3, maybe 4, weeks ago I started seeing very obvious nute deficiencies. At first I thought it was N, then after further observation switched the diagnosis to a P deficiency. I added P through a high P bat guano tea, then realized that the speed of delivery of that method wouldn't be quick enough to remedy the situation.

I then used Pure Blend Pro as a foliar feed, first at 1/2 the strenght recommended on the bottle, then 2 days later I gave her another foliar feeding using the full recommended strength. Nothing so far has seemed to halt the nute deficiency symptoms, as a matter of fact new symptoms seem to starting to happen.

I'm starting the feel the problem is my soil has had all its nutes used up. I started with LC's mix #1 and then added nutes of the guano variety mixed straight into the soil. I didn't use greensand as that was mentioned as being not essential. I'm using RO water bought at Wholefoods supermarket. This water is about 6 PH, and the runoff tests at about 6.8 PH after soaking in the dirt for 15 minutes or so.

I have 2 girls, each in a pot that is holding probably a tad less than one gallon of soil. The vegetative phase was for about 6 or 7 weeks, and has now been flowering for about 5 weeks. Is it likely that these plants have just used up all the nutes that I put into the mix by this point? I have the feeling that is likely, but would like to hear other's opinions.

What I am thinking about doing is just watering with Pure Blend Pro (1-4-5) from here on. Does that seem sensible? I just want to make sure that the girls don't end up not putting on any weight due to low levels of nutes. I feel like I have learned a valuable lesson in organics, but I really want to salvage a decent harvest, even if it means going non-organic at the end.

Thanks for your help folks.

hey burn or anyone: i would like to see some flowering pics,,some results,,if the results are consistant lets see them,,how much are u avg on a plant with yr lights ect...and lets see some pics of plants harvested with lc's mix with the 2 recipes,:p

here are harvest day pics of the mix with the peat moss/perlite /mushroom compost, i innoculated it with alaska fish ferts at 1 teaspoon/gallon, and mollasses at 1 tablespoon/ gallon and watered EVERY watering with mollasses at 1 teaspoon / gallon, and foliar fed 3-5 times a day during lights on with the same mollasses /water mixture. also the recommended amounts of bone and blood meal, and powdered dolomite lime. and these were grown under CFL's to boot. it was absolutely perfect for a sativa dominant strain like LP1 which is nute sensitive like most sativas are. it even ran out of nutes in the tote at just the right time. (that had a lot to do with the size i flowered at). the mixes work great, if your girls need more nutes because they are heavy feeders, then use one of the tea recipes. i have used a mix similar to this outside for years, and just started using this exact mix on my 1st indoor grow last year, here are some photos from harvest day. reeferman's LP1 SMCG pheno. yield total from the lp1 and the blue girl was 7.2 ounces. not bad for a small closet and a bunch of cfl's thrown together ghetto style. right before flowering i hit them in foliar with a bit of MY liquid vitamin and mineral supplement (that i take everyday)that are in a fulvic acid base with 72 trace minerals and all the essential minerals. other than watering and trimming, this is truely a "set it and forget it" kind of grow. its what i love about organic gardening, no bullshit to complicate things, unless you are using cow manure as part of your compost.lol im using the same mix on my current grow, but i added about 10% more perlite as i wanted it to dry out even faster. and i mixed composted chicken manur e with mushroom compost and with composted cow manure, instead of only mushroom compost. i did this because one of the strains im growing this time is a heavy feeder.(sour diesel cross). the last pic is from my current grow, 21 days into flower. the last grow was chopped at 61 days, mostly cloudy with about 25% amber trichs. thanks burn one for posting the recipes and for all the knowledge. it sharpened my rusty old mind and refreshed some things long forgotten. thanks again. Chief Runningbud.

Hi everybody. So far this is what ive rounded up and wanted to know what advice the pro's have for me. 200 ibs. Hyponex organic soil from wal-mart, 30 gallons perlite, 2 2.2 cu.ft. bales peat moss, 30 ibs. worm castings, 20 ibs. dehydrated cow manure, 20 ibs. cow manure with added humis. Im going to feed with teas. I have fish emulsions, worm casting tea bags, epsome salts, and im gonna get high P guano and mollasses. Anybody see anything im missing?

i know it been months since your post, but if you haven't mixed anything up yet, take that hyponex back to walmart, its garbage. no matter how much perlite you add, it retains moisture like a mofo and the plants get waterlogged. pure garbage. i once mixed it with nearly 65% perlite and it was still too soggy and wouldnt drain worth a shit.

cheif, super buds. how do you prune your fan leaves? do you "set" them with set spray? what made you switch to mushroom compost from regular organic? i am experimenting now with 1/2 mushroom 1/2 organic, as well as all mr and all straight compost, mixed into my lc#1. two weeks in, too soon to tell

I have to be honest. I have been reading the organic forum for many weeks now and it all confuses the hell out of me still. I wish their was a book or something that was simple to follow and doesn't dabble in pseudo science and just tells me this is how you do it and this is why it works.

go through the links/posts in the organic fanatic collective. take your time, ignore the daily talk somewhat( yet they still contain great info), stick to the links and articles in there. bookmark or take note of the post # for the ones you don't get (yet) if by the end if you are still confused i will gladly help clear things up.
