Tutorial Organics for Beginners

I use a 10 gallon tank pump that I bought for 6.99 at a pet shop, I've brewed up to a gallon of tea with this one air stoned pump. I'd say it just takes a little longer to get your teas going with the smaller air pumps. I agree with burn though, two outputs are beneficial.

I think we need to reconsider recomending liquid karma. it seems to be a weak maxicrop with some yucca extract thrown in all for $27 a quart. and my main reasoning is botanicare makes a product that is exactly what we need for $27 a GALLON! yes, a GALLON of organicare humex is $27 a gallon versus $27 a quart for liquid karma.

humex description:

"Humex™ is a leonardite ore soil booster, manufactured using our unique patented process. We use weathered lignite mined from scientifically selected sites in various locations around the world. These ancient plant deposits, formed during the Jurassic age, are cold processed to preserve their unique humic and fulvicacids, enzymes, natural growth hormones, beneficial microbes and trace minerals.

Humex is a liquid humus- a combination of natural, organic plant acids, including humic acid, in enzymatic microbial solution. In addition to being a soil conditioner with humic acid and enzymes, Humex also contains active microbial inoculants that enhance the populations of beneficial soil microorganisms."

sounds to me like it has the humic and fulvic acids we look for to start off our soil right and for so much less. I don't know about you guys but I am ordering a gallon of this stuff and never thinking about LK again

So one time I had these goats, but they kept getting out so after 3 years of having them I gave them away. But I have all this old poop from 2+ years ago in a pile. Can I use this for bacteria compost in teas?

I got a bunch of germinated seeds in LC mix #1, about half are starting to break soil. ATM I'm watering everytime the top part of soil drys out(every couple hours), its only a very light watering tho. How should i water seedlings till the taproot hits the bottom of the container? Should i keep the medium moist or does it need to dry out?

It likes it dry. Too much water is always bad. It's something you have to learn. The plant will tell you what it needs.

Fish/Seaweed Question

Fish/Seaweed Question

This is a GREAT thread, kudos to BurnOne and all others helping along. I've learned more from this thread than anywhere else.

Just trying to get my head around the fish/seaweed combo and looking for products.

From the recipes on first page:
RECIPE #5
Fish and Seaweed (This is sooo easy)

For veg growth…
1 capful 5-1-1 Fish Emulsion
1 capful Neptune's Harvest 0-0-1 Seaweed or Maxicrop liquid
1 gallon H2O

For early flowering…
1 tbs. Neptune’s Harvest 2-3-1 Fish/Seaweed
1 gallon H2O

For mid to late flowering…
1 tbs. Neptune’s Harvest 2-4-1 Fish
1 gallon H2O

I'm wondering on the switch from 2-3-1 to 2-4-1. Seems like a very slight change, does it make a significant difference?

Also, locally I have access to some locally made 2-4-2. Can I use this all the way from early flower right through harvest? This would be way easier on my budget than importing the NH stuff exactly.

Thanks!

First of,as a budding(pun intended) organic gardener I want to thank B1,suby,von and all the other organics gurus for the knowledge you've put into this resource and the buddha like patience you have with us noobs. Thank you masters.

I've got some LC's amended mix(blood, bone and dolomite) cooking at room temp since thursday. I peek into the bin today, and theres a bunch of wispy, fluffy white mycelium growing on top, looks like cobweb mold. Should I be bothered at all?

Roger that B1. Just turned and wetted the mix.
Growing mushrooms has really instilled a fear of trichoderma and cobweb in me. In organic gardening any type of mycelium in our soil is a good thing,no?

Right. And don't get the mix too wet. Damp is fine. If you have water puddling up in the bottom of the container, it's too wet.

Found an identically described product "Europonics" (leonardite Humic/fulvic, et. al.) also for about $24-$30 A GALLON, my ladies soaked it up as both a foliar and root drench. Black as night, and stains like a mo fo!

Sorry for revisiting this, but when I last asked you about LC#1 being too soggy, you told me to recheck my methods. I did and I followed the recipe to a tee, especially the perlite.

I love the DIY philosophy and really want this to work and say good by to FF for good. Is it possible that the ingredients I used might be the problem?

This is the peat I used.

And these are the castings. They're the only brand I've ever tried so I don't know if there is a difference in texture/water holding capabilities between brands. These have the consistency of dry, finely ground coffee.

Thoughts anyone?

MG Blood Meal ......... 12 - 0 - 0
MG Bone Meal ........... 6 - 9 - 0
ESPOMA Kelp Meal ..... 1 - 0 - 2

I'm unable to find Jersey Greensand and the only Bone Meal/Blood Meal I can find locally is from Miracle Gro. Is this alright for RECIPE #1? Any suggestions?

Welcome to IC.
That will work fine. You don't need the Greensand.
