Chicken poo has good amounts of P. However it is best to get composted and even then use half as much as say horse. It is also strongly alkaline.

I recommend (and so do the wisest heads in the organic forums) making your own compost with the best things locally available. Make it well and you will need NOTHING ELSE. :smoke:

Having said that i always topdress with bat guano plus blood and bone. But that because i dont have enough compost! :D

Want a high P compost? Add chicken poo plus bone meal or fish frames and you will have luxury amounts of P. Dont forget half the battle in organics (or more than half) is unlocking the nutes already present in the native soil. Australia's soils are very low in available P but it actually makes up a large % of the total amount. The native plants here cannot tolerate even medium levels of P or they shrivel up and die... but my clay soil is packed full of nutrients. Just gotta get them humic acids etc to work!!! :rasta:

I'm using the horse manure on tea. yes,i saw your opinions it is better be composted. we have very nice soils around here. there is one called "chernozem"(it means something like black soil). This should be one of the best soils in Europe(cannabis like it to) it is very rich soil, sometimes i even use it clean with some sand from the river. Near the river i usually visit there is much clay soil to. but i,m a newbie in the organic gardening so i,m trying everything i find, sometimes i,m not sure what soil is rich in what:)So most of the times i buy some peat moss, pick up some manure from my grandma's garden(or if i find some warm castings) and add some zeolites or something and that is my usual soil mix(with little changes and for indoor mostly)Soon i will try to stop spend money for soil,im starting to understand some things now:)

I bet there's a difference in the manure quality of horses that are pastured versus horses that are fed a diet of prepared feed, especially if its original source is GMO hays. We have that problem in the US, as I understand it many, if not most of the eastern European countries have pretty much outright banned *all* GMOs, yes?

If that's the case, I bet your horses are extremely healthy animals. I have been doing quite a lot of reading and it's apparent that the quality of food--pasture and access to a wide variety and selection of foodstuffs to ingest--plays a huge role in the health of those who consume the subsequent products of those pastured animals. Everything from chickens to cattle are just plain better for you if they've been allowed to roam good pasture that's not over-grazed.

Your Bulgarian soils are also not likely to have been exposed to stuff like glyphosate, unlike where I live where it's used by local officials as a road-side weed killer.

yes,the GMO suppose to be banned,but...:( How that shit can be banned at all?! Our politicians are so corrupted that we really don't know what grows on our land.sometimes the owners of the land are ready to grow everything for money and we dont know what we eat.i have doubts about the corn, soya and that yellow thing they use for fuel.:( I hope our soils are still good enough but i,m not sure on what exactly they are exposed in this moment.Nobody can be sure in anything all over the world. :( i,m thinking that i grow nice, bio weed and BAM-it can be full of GMO like u said:)Unfortunately this is the truth about GMO here. we just can't be sure...I,m even sure that it grows all over:(
At least we stopped shale gas developing for now.The developing has to be started just right on these best fields with "chernozem"that i,m talking about(we grow all of our best wheat there but who cares if we die, right)Our politicians are just as nasty as yours:)And Hillary Clinton keep telling us:"it will be very good for your country to produce shale gas,u will be independent, why don't u want it,why don't u do it...RIGHT NOW!":)however this place is for organic fanatics, lets hope there is still something organic around:)

S

SeaMaiden

Shale gas is gonna be good for you, eh? Yeah, we should believe everything that comes out of Hillary Clinton's mouth.

God, to think the reaction of Americans should a Bulgarian politician come to our country and tell us how it should be. Yet we are, as a people, perfectly fine with it going the other way. I apologize for that, I am not down with it. I think your country should be left alone by ours.

As for politicians, it's simply a truism--power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. No one in a position of power is going to not use that position. However, your country has stood up to the corporations that are currently making a mockery of our form of governance, it is no longer anything resembling a representative republic. YOUR country has stood up and told companies like Monsanto to fuck off, publicly at least. That has led to companies like Monsanto changing their game plans for profit in countries like yours, significantly. Many of them are shifting their attentions away from central Europe and onto Africa.

And to get it back on topic: My very best permaculture reading seems to be coming out of AUSTRALIA. And IIRC the fellow who heads up IFOAM, the international organic organization, is an Aussie. So to call this group fanatics is apropos.

You don't have to apologies for those bastards! I don't have nothing against the normal people who are living in America. I have many friends in some American organizations against fracking, very nice people who are trying to fight with this stupid government like we do(we must fight with ours because they are the same but not so powerful) And Hillary better watch out her husband haha
Yes,you are right,"fanatics" is not the right word, just awaken people who don't want to eat or smoke or breath chemicals:)And that is why i prefer to grow in soil and mostly outdoor and even don't trust the bio fertz on the market. Better make something similar by myself:)

S

SeaMaiden

Ah, but it is we who vote them in, and we do it repeatedly, collectively. The world is owed some apologies.

you are right but what should we do than?we can only choose between this rich mf and that bastard:) At least if we all try to grow our own bio food and weed(if that's possible when there is GMO everywhere) with our own homemade fertz it will be something. they hate when u grow something and don't buy their shits. here they don't help real farmers much. If u are trying to grow bio production or if u try to make warm castings farm there is no benefits, even make it harder for u. that makes bio products too expensive so the normal people prefer to buy cheaper shitty tomatoes and garlic from China:)And u can produce easily and more when u grow the shitty way with pesticides and chemical fertzThanks god we still have our grandma with her "land races":)

My own policy is to vote out incumbents. If Americans simply practiced this one rule like a religion, we wouldn't have half the problems we do now.

In the meantime, DIY and let the organic movement take hold and take over. It's a good growth industry here in the US, just about hitting a consistent 10% per annum increase. As that goes, so more industry and farming will go.

Indeed. The world is changing and peoples perceptions are being challenged on all kinds of topics.

Nearly all of Australia's gardening magazines and tv programmes, especially the awesome Gardening Australia (Costa has GOT to be a toker) focus more and more on organic practice and food production. Its the new normal. :rasta:

most above off-thread but it's interesting for me to see SeaMaiden speak out ... and to have her input into this thread.

currently in Queensland the authorities are freaking because in the bush near a coal mine and a gas well a hole has appeared in the ground which is venting methane. it somehow caught fire and set fire to the surrounding bush (that's how the hole was discovered ... when someone went looking for the cause of the fire).

now all are wondering how to put the fire out.

the miners are saying there's no research which indicates our actions cause this sort of thing ... and the authorities are trying to solve the issue without blaming miners who of course are like the GOOSES that lay golden eggs.

seems there's no research results on things like this because no one has done any! but interestingly the miners have put their hands up and suggested they have a plan to stop the fire and plug the hole.

stayed tuned everyone the saga is just beginning!

Oh yeah. the Condamine River here has started bubbling and if a match is held near the bubbles fire starts but goes out again because the bubbles aren't constant enuf. gas exploration is being blamed for that too but the government is saying it's natural.

Fracking or coal seam gas is a disgusting practice which if allowed to continue will destroy the areas it goes on. But hey, most of us know this already right?

But of course we must focus on carbon cause its much better to tax...

MADNESS!!!

Not blaming you at all HC mate :tiphat:
But these Gas Companies are doing some real scary stuff all around the world and they have brought their crap exploration methods to our island and some of the stories are just fracking with my head :faint:

Ok, it's amazing to me that the Aussie government allows that activity (the mining and fracking that causes burning rivers and random methane holes), yet do you people have ANY idea how strict your government is on importation of ornamental animals? And exportation??? Forget it! They're as bad as Hawai'i.

Aussie organisms, especially from southern waters nearer Tasmania, are coveted and not often found in the trade.

And the thing is, I really and truly respect the government and people for saying that THIS is one of their most precious natural resources and it must be protected. But then this other crap goes on, oh what? The other problem with the fisheries is fisherfolk coming in from other countries (Indonesia, Philippines, IIRC) and fishing Aussie waters for the animals that are in demand because they've cyanided their stocks to death. We can thank the Hong Kong live fish trade for that, but plenty of ornamentals are cyanide-caught, too.

Closest I've been to Australia was Guam! And it was actually pretty fun getting online and being in the same time zone, or near the same time zone, as my Aussie online friends. I *must* must MUST scuba dive Australian waters someday. Seriously.

Well, Dave and I just spent the weekend with some old school friends of mine, and it turns out that their youngest daughter has taken a year off from working and is down in the Land of Oz, having the TIME OF HER LIFE.

Apparently you lot know how to party. Do I have that right?
