Ordering lots of gear and nutrients online?

I am looking into a way to get a kind of large amount of gear and nutrients for a new location being set up.

Its not a huge amount but larger than I feel comfortable driving to the local hydro store for. Probably a couple thousand $$ worth of stuff.


Can anyone give me some advice on ordering online?

This is for somewhere not where I live and there is no grow where I live. It will all be leaving my house soon after arriving.

Would it be safe to have it sent to my house where I live?

I was thinking many smaller orders over a month or two rather than one large one might be a good idea.


Would it be wise to split the purchases between different businesses?

How do I pay? Money order?

Pre payed anonymous visa card from the store and pay through paypal? not sure if that's even possible...

Any other ways?


Where are some reputable places to order from?

Any ICMAG sponsors sell what I am looking for? Would love to spend money there.


Any other advice or anything I am forgetting would be much appreciated as well.

Break it up into smaller orders and diff companies shop for sales...

I'll second what Indiica said, divide and conquer.

Paypal is a huge no-no for illegal activities. They will rat you out in a heart beat. There are several articles in this forum and across the web about using them. CC's are too easy to trace back to you.

Shipping companies will report suspicious activities as well, if it's not in a plain cardboard box. Use multiple shippers.

All this is assuming you don't live in a mmj state or where it's decriminalized.

I purchased alot of gear for start-up, and am convinced a knock and talk followed six to eight months later. However this was several years ago. Just be smart about it, and keep your eyes open.

You are in CO these are NOT illegal activities. Lights and nutes are perfectly legal. You are going to be ditching the ship to address after getting these items in any event. I would say if you are really paranoid have a non growing friend make the order and give them cash. Otherwise just find your best deal and order in the stuff.

Thanks for the input everyone. I am glad to see everyone agrees that the internet is the way to go.

The grow store I have been going to for around 10 years supposedly has had some surveillance resulting in at least 1 large bust recently.

This is going to be MUCH bigger than 3 plants vegging and 3 flowering...

I really just need someone to help me get the gear not talk about legality.....

I know most bigger online stores like BGHYDRO.COM accepts money orders. If you are not having it shipped to the grow...than I would feel comfortable in ordering a few thousand dollars worth of stuff from them.

Maybe you could spread orders out...and mail out the money orders like one a week to stagger the shipments.

If I had to get a lot of stuff...I would probably just go to the hydro shop..pay in cash...then have the stuff dropped at a safe location....where you can take what you need when you need it in smaller quantities.

Rent a truck if you have to..and go to a hydro shop that is in another county. The chances of them following you are pretty slim.

I really wouldn't let yourself get that paranoid about it. It can just make your life crazy.

I have read several threads about UPS ratting people out. I have used 4hydroponics.com in the past & the shipping label is an individual's name. Nothing at all about hydro or gardening is on the box. I hope it is OK to give a company name; not sure about the rules on that.

I also agree that breaking it up among several companies is a good way to go. And avoid anyplace with advertising that would attract LEO attention: places talking about big buds, etc. There have been lots of threads claiming that LEO watches certain companies more closely than others.

But in the long run, LEO cannot track every single order from every company. Just break it up so that your order does not stand out. $3,000 in one order probably would attract attention.

I would suggest buying from a place in a neighboring state. 1) it will get to you fast 2) local police can suck it.

i ordered 1500 dollars worth of equipment from discount hydro ... never had any problems from them ..even on the boxes they ship in ,all it said was DH. the delivery guy was actually someone i went to school with .. we laughed about what was in the boxes because everyone knows im a big smoker.. other than their prices DH worked for me. i paid with personal check, oh yeah they have customer service 2 . there in cali

I find that ordering stuff online is fast and easy. Most companies that I order from are in another state anyway. You can safely pay through paypal, but I would break up orders among several companies with each cost not to exceed several hundred $$$.

I am feeling like I have a plan going now ordering from different websites in smaller orders.


Its going to take a while, the 1000 watt lights are like 350 so its going to be impossible to keep the orders much less than 3-400 $.

Cant I go to Walmart and buy a pre paid visa card with cash and not have my name on it?

I guess since my name is on the order and its coming to my home I need to just not worry about it and go with money orders.

But I was just thinking one less way to use my name is probably safer if I can do it.

your in denver?!.....go to any store EXCEPT TOMATO.....thegrowstore, waytogrow, bhocenter.....I guarantee when your in there someone will be making a bigger purchase than you.....they have no idea how many cards you have......your being ridiculous....ive see people come in and exchange 20 co2 tanks at a time....I dont think they are looking at people buying buying 3k worth of equipment

if you have another city close by that has a hydro store just go thier and buy your stuff and pay cash. or just go to the local shop and if you have a buddy that helps you with your grow just split up the order over the next month. or if your going to order online just use a money order or pre paid card and send the order to some one els place.
