herpes 1 is able to survive genitally and orally. It prefers oral locations but can infect genital locations. The same applies for herpes 2 which is usually known as genital herpes.
So to the point. You can infect someones genitals with Herpes 1 but it is not the preferred location. You can infect someone orally with herpes 2 and again while it is not the preferred location it can take here more easily.
oral herpes 2 can be severly debilitating as it may infect mouth or throat and can effect breathing and eating. A person with herpes 1 may not be as easily infected with herpes 2 so a single encounter may not get your hsv2, a second encounter would probly pit you against the odds.
some facts: a person can be infected with both forms of herpes. infection can come from skin to skin contact or body fluid to skin contact ...so safe sex may not be guarranteed. 1 in 8 adults above 25 years of age are infected with herpes 2. 80% of adults have herpes 1. at least 30% of college students are believed to have herpes 2.
