Opinions on veganics?

T

The Sensi Rebel

I rarely feed with soluble nutrients of exception of EWC, Fish Emulsion, and Guano.

I am thinking of opting out for a lower N % than the 12% bone meal has to offer. I'm okay, but I'm literally a feed away from overdosing on N because of my bennie's and myco's really starting to kick in. So I may just cut the dry blood meal in the actual soil mix because I already have a bottle of Alaskan Fish Emulsion for my indoor growing, I don't need THAT much N, so I may just opt on cutting it out of the dry mix and just dedicate the rest of my mix to my veggie garden.

I already get what I need from compost, EWC and kelp.

Besides EWC, Fish Emulsion, Guanos, and numerous dry fert, I think I may just lay off the fertilizing for now.

Besides the dry ferts, I try to supplement my soil with Glomus, Trichoderma, Endo and Ecto Mycorrhizae, and plenty of it!!!

I'm not sure who, but after I discovered the Beneficial Fungi/Bacteria Colonization thread, my life and grow have really improved.

I notice the amount of water the plant draws as opposed to regular soil and hydro, but the drought resistance is ironically, improved. I could water a 1 gal pot, have a 12/12 from seed in there, and it would have almost crusty soil structure after 18-24 hours, but if I left for 2 days, and it didn't wilt at all, considering the roots were making its way around and up the pot after shooting down.

Good veganics to me = Heavy plant composting + Bennies.

Compost is the best obviously, as we have used it for millions of years, but you cant beat EWC and guanos to supplement.

No one has ever answered me as to whether or not using my own urine would disqualify as veganic. Can I exploit myself, especially in that manner?

The more I'm doing, and spending time doing, with regard to stuff like FPEs, the more I can see how and why people are willing to spend money on bottled stuff. Sometimes you've just got to draw the line and be able to set your *own* priorities, which is what this is really about.

I could probably clean my own house, for example, but I truly detest housework. So I try to earn enough so that I can pay someone else to come and clean my house for me. Maybe that's not a good example, but it's the best case of convenience for its own sake that I can think of at the moment.

You would only want to use your own urine if youre on a veganic diet yourself, or else there may be unwanted toxins in the urine I've read

be good to animals

be good to animals

I appreciate that some vegetarians and vegans want to reduce harm to animals. The horse manure I use is from a horse that is treated better than most people in third world countries. The goats and chickens are free range and live better than wild animals. I feel comfortable using their poop. Blood meal feels sketchy to me because it supports some practices that make for less than happy animals. To live is to kill, no way around it, but we can make decisions that minimize harm to animals. Peace.

This post has been dead...

In a radio interview with Kyle Kushmann (many say do not listen to this man, but then again a lot of people say fuck Cervantes as well, and he's how I started so... -shrug-), he was asked to give his definition of veganics. And it was: "Not using any waste products. Nothing that is a byproduct of a stomach."

It is also to my understanding that EWC are quite acceptable by "vegan" standards (I just think vegetables when I hear this word. Not coma patients, folks. Just regular ol' V8 components. I don't care much for PC, bro, but this falls into the line of organic growing that I wanted to ultimately achieve: Using plants to grow plants. Strictly. I feel that animals have a role to play as well, however, I would like to test my straight botanical theory, as I hear it gives some of the best smoke and yield. So... I'mma try it.) as worms do not have stomachs. They are rather, bio-filters themselves. Passing material through, but oddly... No stomachs.

I don't want an angry retort... This is just what I have to my understanding. I could very well be wrong. But I also wanted to resurrect this thread to see what was up this year and what people have been trying.

Why not just use natural accumulator plants as a top-dress on a already welll built soil.

Thinking about it I am veganic or what ever you call it.

Buying bottles is not veganic. Everything you need is provided by nature surrounding you everyday.

Many people using organics kinda know what's going on but when you start using the soil food web and stop thinking about NPK, the whole world opens up.

Don't listen to the pot profiteers that sell you things. Listen to the people growing all kinds of plants, its all the same to microbes.

The whole thing is a little silly IMO so far as definitions go. I may be wrong but believe Kyle was more about promoting a certain brand of bottled fertilizers.

On stomachs. Do cows have stomachs? Or do they have four compartments which we call stomachs?

Do worms have stomachs which we have called crop and gizzard?

I think with natural growing it is more important to use as much as possible what is close by, rather than fretting about having everything perfectly aligned with someone's concept or supposed scientific method. I really think this is healthier for the grower, plants and environment.

If you live next to horses, well.....
If you live next to a meadow there must be lots of good plants to use as well as local mycorrhizal fungi. If you live in the city, you might be surprised the plants you can harvest from vacant lots, apartment lawns, railways, etc. Just be sure it has not been poisoned.

So.....in a nutshell (oddly appropriate term) if you live next door to a cop, use pig shit?

All joking aside, why not? If its there, and it's abundant, use it. I like that advice because it fits what I've done for a long time. And along these lines, plants have known what to do for a millennia, its up to us to give them good choices,
and stay out of their way.
