Oldtimer's Haze

Why on seed boutique is this called a skunk?

In the description seveal times it's described as an "old school skunk", is this "Skunk" like tabloids use or does it actually contain skunk?

I don't know which answer would be more worrying to hear from a great breeder :p

(edit: Hey NegRep fairy I'm not trying to have a go at ACE, I like ACE, I wouldn't have been looking at that page otherwise, but Skunk isn't one of the things you'd expect to find in Haze. also Skunk is a group of strains it shouldn't be made into a general term)

That sounds like somebody might have gotten their descriptions mixed up when they put up the listing. In everything I have read Ace's haze is a pure selection from the Old Timers Haze line. I don't believe it has any skunk genes in it.

Hi dubi. What is the Mexican in the Oldtimer's haze? Is it Oaxacan or Acapulco Gold?
Cheers.

Hi DemonPigeon,

It's obviously a mistake in their description. Oldtimer's Haze has 0 skunk, it's a pure haze line. I dont know why but some retailers like to modify the official descriptions adding non sense information and mistakes.

You can find our official description in the first post of this thread and at our website. Thanks for let me know!

By the way hi dubi what is the Mexican in the Oldtimer's haze? Is it Oaxacan or Acapulco Gold?

Hi Cannabisso,

Honestly, it's impossible to me to be able to identify 100 % the mexican genetics of haze.

Firstly, i didnt create and neither i made the initial sativa crosses that produced the haze hybrid. This is a question that can only answer the persons who initially created the strain in the 70s. Secondly, it's my understanding that oldtimer's haze is composed mainly of highland colombian crossed with green SE asian sativas. Being a poly hybrid is quite difficult to clearly identify the landraces involved in the hybrid unless you have very deep and straight experience with the original landrace lines. There's a smaller, more robust, columnar and early flowering Green Haze pheno with wider leaf, it's only my guess this could be the more mexican pheno but is not very frequent anyway in oldtimer's haze line.

Hi kiwi,

Im also at 37 latitude but north :) If your weather is coastal and mild/warm in autumn then you can finish haze outdoors without problems, but if you are growing in a continental climate with frosts, snow, dry ambient and very high temp variation between day and night then you will need a greenhouse to mature them correctly in the last 2 months of flowering. Unless you live in a tropical/subtropical area, the use of a greenhouse is recommended to get the best of this kind of tropical sativas, you will get better quality and yield, the purple haze surprisingly resists quite well the cold temps.

Hope it helps!

Hey mate,

Yeah I think Spain has similar climates and growing seasons. I live in Tauranga and it is the antipode of Jaen,Spain lol!.

I think I live in a slight sub-tropical climate as I have had no frosts this year and our lowest temperature rarely go below 5 degrees celcius and I'd say our average temp in may to june would be 15-20 degree highs with 11-6 degree lows.

Do you reckon I can run these without a green house? it's not exactly like you can just put a greenhouse full Of MJ plants out in your backyard in this country, our government is still blind from rhe truth.

I still have your malawi and panama sativas to enjoy anyways :)

Thank you for your masterpieces. thank you: what is the lowest temp your purple haze can handle without too much stress?.

Oldtimer's Haze next to an almost finished Diesel. Contrast in many ways!

I just received a package with my order of 10 purple oldtimer's haze, Zamaldelica and Peyote Purple, I was hoping to make reproductions of seed from this rare strain so that it can be preserved within my legal state, but the package was inspected by customs and the seeds confiscated and DESTROYED. What a shameful loss of rare genetics! Now I have just this one female left and no haze pollen! Maybe I can make S1's, but this is a green haze i think.

My dilemma is that the days have begun to get longer now, and the haze has only just shown preflowers. I will certainly have to finish he in a tent, so I am trying to control height. I have decided to take a sixteen foot long tent and turn it on its side, so that i have a 16 foot tall tent.

The days have gotten noticeably longer in the past two weeks, by about a half hour or more. I am pretty sure that even though day length will stay well below 12/12 for another 2 months, a plant like the haze will sense the lengthening days and revert to vegetative growth, right?

I would be growing ONLY oldtimer's haze if I had those temps. Correct me if im wrong, but temps like that in the last few weeks of flowering should be fine, and in my eyes maybe even a positive thing. Resin production is sometimes a response to extreme temperatures.

Hi Bear Riot,

yeah, there's a big contrast between tropical sativa lines and modern sativa/indica hybrids :)

You made an interesting question in the last part of your post. Even with a photoperiod lower than 12/12, if the haze feels the photoperiod is increasing quickly then she will try to reveg in some way or keep the flowering in mid flowering mode for too long without finishing correctly. If she was in late flowering then she will finish, but she is in very early flowering, you did correctly moving the plant indoors to finish her without increasing photoperiod.

Buenas tardes a tod@s. Aquí les dejo una Purple Haze, en su novena semana de floración bajo un Hps de 250W. Se que es todo una locura, pero quien no prueba,..

Buenos días a tod@s.

Dubi, she has been in a flowering light cycle for seven weeks, pistils began to form more than five weeks ago. How much more can I expect her to stretch from now?

(in the back corner, you can see I have tied her branches down to train out)

There is not a speck of anything but green on this plant. With a sweeter smell Im thinking she is a green haze. Clones from this plant have rooted very vigorously.

Haze head checking in.

Those pictures look excellent. Nice even green leaves and good bud development. Now for the semi-bad news: pure hazes don't really stop stretching. They slow down a bit from the all-out explosion in the first 6-8 weeks, but expect to be pulling branches down and sideways for the next 12-13 weeks. When you hit the 18-20 week mark you should be pretty well done with vertical growth and down to the last few weeks of buds finishing off. Don't pull the plant till shes stopped and you'll have some VERY unique smoke on your hands - dreamy, clear and psychedelic from the purple side, caffeinated as hell, dopey and motivated on the green side.

Very interesting. I have 2 more vertical feet, maybe less, before the light becomes a problem. She does seem to have slowed down considerably. I have always been most worried about what are now the smallest buds in the center of the canopy, there is really nowhere to go with them.

What do you think would happen if I clipped the apical buds, just the very tip of the branches? Probably nothing, im thinking...new apical buds.

I figure if I can pass this test I can join the jedi order.

You can clip them, but that's a decent amount of stress for the plant to go through in flower. Probably going to do better if you gently bend the branches down and tie them down like you have been doing. My stretchy sativas always end up tied in a circular pattern, where they are all bent down in the same direction around a bunch of support sticks.

I agree clipping feels pretty wrong. I can get creative. The problem is the pot size now is 3 gallons I think, and she may need to be repotted once. Its FFOF soil, and I use additional organic fertilizers, compost tea and now guano tea. Plenty of additional mineral dust and biochar for ph were added too. Repotting is, at some point, going to be impossible, as it's already impossible to remove her from the space she is in.

Bear Riot, get a larger pot half way filled (or so) with your amended soil. After around 9 weeks of flower (so a couple more for you), drop your current pot into the larger pot (if you have the vertical space). It can grow roots out of the bottom of the current pot (drainage holes) and into the new soil. You can continue to add organics as needed to the larger pot.

Good Luck. I love the original green OTH. Need to grow another plant sometime soon.
