Old cold coffee?

 I have another stupid ? for all you out there. Can I mix my nutes in some old cold coffee to help with the ph factor? I have very high ph and would like to find a good way to bring it down without having to spend more money. I have tried lemon juice and it works but then I heard that it promotes root rot and I don't want that so I quit using it. Then I tried vinager and it didn't work at all. Then I remembered that my mother used to poor her old cold coffee on her house plants and they loved it. Will it bring the ph down, can I use it everyday or should I just use it once a week or what? Will it add flavor to my weed? Thanks in advance to all who wish to answer this dumb ?

I've heard of it, but haven't done it myself. Hell, I don't even know of anyone who's really experimented with it that much either. It would be interesting to know though.

I'd bet that coffee grounds that are NOT used first will have much more acidity and nutrient content than used grounds. But again, I don't really know. Someone should experiment with it. If you do, let me know what happens!!! I'll do an article with you on the topic. It would be a cool experiment. An answer to the coffee grounds question once and for all!!! :biglaugh:

Ah, grandma's great tips...ground (used) coffee, in the soil mix, and for ferts...well, pee. Diluted pee is a great overall fert...and grandma always waters the plants with the water she keeps in a bottle by the window -> always full of green algae, the plants love it...many more ways to feed a plant than commercial stuff, theyve done it for 1000s of years and it's all ORGANIC. :D

Listen guy i have been growing for years and I can tell you without a doubt if you need nitrogen in your soil add it appropriately. Tell me this before you pee on your plants do you test your pee's PH? nutrient content? then how can you be sure your doing your plant a service by adding unknown substances contained in your urine. stick with off the shelf proven products and you'll be Ok.

I've seen the results I didnt believe it myself first, it is really old-school I guess but is a great source of N, and manymany others, there are a lot of studies about this...ph and ppm is easily tested, we all know that, of course it is easier to buy ready-to-use-all-in-one but being a idiot like myself I like to try things, it doesnt harm plants unless you pee straight on them..unknown substances? There are far worse substances in most chem ferts than is in your own urine, it has been used again I say this, for thousands of years with mighty good success, but, well, this guy could be wrong sorry if I stirred some shit here sorry, pee. FJ
And Im not talking just for fun bro...

Well,, as to urine, it IS a well known fact that it is high in N,, my hubby used a fertilizer (concocked by a, now retired, Ag Professor from CSUC) awhile working at a lawn Co. It used Uria(sp?) derived from urine (human or otherwise Unknown ) but it was refined and processed I would believe B4 use. It did make the grass grow grow grow! They'd occationally get complaints from gardners that they had to mow too often after the grass being treated
I'd say ,, be free to pee, but use caution :biglaugh: wouldn't want to over N them ladies with a "hot" pee.... hmmm hot pee:chin: ( totally different problem:biglaugh:),,,,

and for using piss to fert your plants, it works if its processed a bit, at least diluted. Our pee contains tons of N, but also lots of salts. These build up quickly if your pouring urine into a bucket of soil

ahem....not going to accuse any one of hijacking this thread.....:abduct:..... but did anyone ever bother to check the ph of old cold coffee?Kind of interested to find out, remember mom throwing old coffee on her roses and throwing used tea bags at em too.....

Thanks stankbud for bringing the hi-jacking to there attention. Tea bags huh? That is more interesting. I don't think I even thought about it before but tea would probably be another good one. I have started the coffee thing and so far the one with fress unused grownds has grown allot. Ph seems to be in the same areas as in the begining but I think that the coffee is doing something. What? Right now I don't know. More results later.

yeah tea bags are great on roses, don't know about canna..

ph up/down solutions are cheap to buy and concentrated, so why not just get some as a little will last a long time?

As for peeing....well you pee on your plants if you want, just don't pee on mine - ok?
Good canna feeds can be a little pricey ( I know, I just ordered some ), but again, they will go a long way, so they will easily pay for themselves in the quality and yield of your grow.

Someone who has far more experience than I do has basically told me straight that paying for high quality nutes is a long term saving.

Well sorry to say I won't be able to do the experiment. Yesterday I had the plants I was using taken form me. So here are the results I came up with. The plant that had unused coffee grounds grew faster than the others. As for ph I did not get the chance to get that far. Sorry guys I wanted to do this for all of us that just don't know. Anyway see ya.
